I just got home from camping and did a quick search. I didn't see a new thread apart from the one I created last week. Sorry if I missed it somewhere. What are you currently reading? I finished one book this week and am in the middle of two more. I am currently reading Miss Peregrine's Home For The Peculiar Children by Ransom Riggs. I am about 30% into it and enjoying it. I gets mixed reviews though so I am eager to see how it plays out. I am about 65% finished with Those Who Wish Me Dead by Michael Koryta. It's awesome! A great thriller (just what I look to read while camping in the woods!) and the "bad guys" are super-creepy. Really enjoying this one! The book I recently finished was When You Reach Me by Rebecca Stead. Ugh. What a dissapintment! I gave it 2.8/5 stars on Goodreads (yes I am very specific with my star ratings lol). Ok, you guys are up!

OK, this is very strange. I can't find this week's reading thread either, and I posted on it. <Sigh.> I am going to keep looking. "I gave it 2.8/5 stars on Goodreads (yes I am very specific with my star ratings lol)." Serious LOL! This is what I want to do. But I don't. Why oh why don't they give you 10 stars? Lisa

I am finishing up The Far Pavilions. I like it but the last 75 pages or so have been a bit tedious.
Edited to add: I just finished The Far Pavilions. I enjoyed the book for the most part, but the last 100 pages or so were repetitive and unnecessary. Otherwise it was an epic tale of love, friendship, and war.

I'm reading the first of a series that was free on Kindle. I don't have it in front of me to give you the author, but it is called "Marked." It is just okay, not great. My typical experience with "free" books.
I'm also reading "Dad is Fat" by Jim Gaffigan. I read some each day, just because it is in essay form and funny and I don't want to rush through it. I've heard his stand-up routines enough times that I when I'm reading the book, I hear it in his voice, and that makes it even better.

I'm reading Betrayed: the English Catholic Church and the Sex Abuse Crisis by Richard Scorer, a solicitor who represented many English victims of abuse perpetrated by Catholic priests. It is jaw droppingly horrifying.
One very interesting fact I discovered was that JRR Tolkein's son was a catholic priest and an alleged paedophile who got away with it .

Began Orange is the New Black yesterday. Very interesting. We don't get HBO, so I had no idea of the plot of the show. I heard the author interviewed on NPR and decided to read the book.
Am also reading Rape of Europa which is about the art works stolen by the Nazis.

I just read The Silent Wife and Gone Girl back to back, in that order. Hated The Silent Wife. I skimmed, hoping it would get better. Could not put Gone Girl down. Forced myself to stop reading at 1:00 am and picked it up the next morning as soon as I could. I didn't care for all the profanity but the story hooked me. I'm reading Dad is Fat by Jim Gaffigan. He's funny and I can hear his voice in my head as I read.

I usually have two books going at a time---one serious/ informative/ biography, and one for FUN! 1. I'm currently RE-reading "Surviving The Death of An Adult Sibling" (the author lost her younger brother (as I did), and at when she wrote it in 2003, she said she couldn't find ANY books about **Sibling** loss---I dunno if that's still true, but I do love this book! 2. Read SO many good reviews about this fun book, and am getting ready to read it .... "Let's Explore Diabetes With Owls"--weird title, huh? (here's a New York Times review) www.nytimes.com/2013/05/15/books/lets-explore-diabetes-with-owls-by-david-sedaris.html?_r=03. I also LOVE Jim Gaffigan, and checked out his book "Dad is Fat"....I know it'll be hilarious! 316rlw5 4. Annnd, thanks to some nice peeps' (from this board's) recommendations, I just reserved two books at the library--- "Trusting God" by Jerry Bridges and "The Question That Never Goes Away" by Phillip Yancy.....

Thanks for the link to the current thread. I don't think the Search feature works here properly because I searched for both READ and READING and nothing came up. Anyhow, I will re-post there in a moment. Yes Goodreads should definitely move to a 10 star rating system! 5 stars leave such little room. What I do is I add my regular rating and then when I type my review, I start with the book title in bold and my specific decimal-pointed star system rating below that. Makes me happy. lol

Great idea, Gina.
I don't always write a review, but I might start implementing your system for the times when I do.
I have won, read and reviewed three ARCs on there this year and have two more on the way. So I will use it with them for sure.

I made a shelf for half-star ratings, so I can shelve books on the half, and then I usually mention that in my review.

How many of you guys read on a Kindle? I got a Paperwhite for Mother's Day and I've gotta say, I LOVED having it on vacation! My favorite aspect of being stuck in the woods was probably the fact that I had a tiny little Kindle loaded with new reading material!

Just started reading Goodness Falls by Ty Roth. He is my cousin and it's his second YA novel. This book is about a HS quarterback (Ty is a teacher and coached HS football for many years.) who receives a blow to the head and how it affects many aspects of his life. It confronts the universal themes of love and death and a wide range of contemporary issues facing teens today. Not far enough into it to give it a rating. Recently read Mortal Sin on My Soul by Mary Murray Bosrock. A fun and easy read especially if you grew up in a large family and attended Catholic School in a small town. It is an autobiography and my DH is one of the characters in the book.
