I'm embarrassed to say that I really didn't know much about Princess Anne before the Queen passed away, but her love and respect for her mother was really evident through all of this. Princess Anne is normally the hardest working Royal, carrying out more official engagements per year than any one. She is a very respected and accomplished horsewoman, having won a gold and two silvers at European events and the first Royal to compete in the Olympics. She even won BBC Sports Personality of the Year in the early 1970s and her daughter won it in the early 2000s. Her daughter Zara has won an Olympic silver medal. That's so amazing! I have learned so much in the past few days. I've been googling Princess Anne and reading about her and watching videos. Thank you for sharing information about her. I don't know how the whole family has gotten through these days with all these events without breaking down. I have so much respect and admiration for them, doing their duty towards their queen and mother. It has been an amazing thing to watch.

Apart from the fact that this came because our dear Queen died, today was perfect! The weather and natural lighting were spectacular! No movie could have planned it better. Wrung out is exactly how I'm feeling, too. I held it together until she was near Windsor Castle, but the rhythm of the footsteps, the clomping of the horses, the bagpipers with so many different tartans, the perfect image of the castle on a hill against the blue sky, the hearse somehow managing to keep so many thrown flowers exactly in place... And all of that was only the backdrop!

I was up at 2am this morning to watch and boy does it make you proud to be a Brit and see how wonderful state occasions can be, the people, the uniforms, everyone in place and walking in time. The pall bearers were magnificent and I was wondering if they were the ones that collected her at RAF Northolt and have been there each time the coffin was moved. I saw all the funeral but went back to bed while they were driving to Windsor so I recorded the rest of the day. I've started watching the recording but they are taking a long time to get to Windsor, however am enjoying listening to the historian and other people with memories of the Queen. So many people lining the roads and cheering and throwing flowers. It's a shame not many are landing on the hearse as I remember Diana's was covered and they had to use the window wipers to be able to see. I loved that the Windsor gardeners had taken all the flowers left be people and made them into a garden, absolutely spectacular.

Thanks for the heads up on the corgis and the horse. I switched off before she reached Windsor last night as that service was due to start at 1am here. Canada is holding a service of remembrance at Christ Church Cathedral in Ottawa. The only country in the Commonwealth to do so. Australia is holding a service on Thursday, our National Day of Mourning, which was scheduled for the first day after our PM returns from London.

The entire day was simply magnificent. I am proud to be a Canadian and part of the Commonwealth.

What was the symbolism behind the breaking of that rod after King Charles had placed her regiment flag on her coffin?? I'm sure our newscasters must have said, but I missed if it they did. It also symbolically releases the Queen's staff from her service.

I've been googling Princess Anne and reading about her and watching videos. . Thank YOU for being interested enough to look her up. She is a remarkable woman, as are many of our Royals which is why we hold them in high esteem. People who say they have an easy life, are a drain on the taxpayer and give nothing back truly do not know what they are talking about.

joelise - Condolences to you for the loss of your dad. Part of me hopes that even a little of this great outpouring of sadness helps you feel like you aren't grieving alone. I'm not even sure if that makes logical sense.

We had church at Christ Church Cathedral today in Victoria. I watched as much as my heart could take. Then turned it off.

Thanks for sharing this with me ladies. It was my dad’s funeral 6 weeks ago and whilst I was desperate to watch today I did worry it might trigger me. Sharing this with you all has been just what I needed. (((((HUGS))))) on your loss. It must have been difficult reliving that funeral while watching this one, but hopefully cathartic, too.

I wasn't able to watch this morning and have been catching up. It really was a glorious days and spectacular service, truly fitting for a Queen.
I have to give a special shout-out to the RCMP making this Canadian proud.
For what it is worth, IME, a rigidly prescribed set of funeral events can offer a lot of comfort to the grieving family. Especially when grieving along with the rest of the world. No decisions were made in the last few days, no thoughts to which hymn or where services will take place, so one can focus all their energy on doing what is next. I expect most of the family wants nothing more than to sleep for the next few days.

I shed some tears today but I really cried the most seeing her horse and corgis watching her casket going by.

I don’t think they were the pallbearers at RAF Northolt but I think once the Queen arrived in London they were the only pallbearers for the rest of the time. They were from the Grenadier Guards. Apparently when the Queen died 5 off them were serving in Iraq.

They weren’t the same people who were the pall bearers for the funeral though.

It must have been difficult reliving that funeral while watching this one, but hopefully cathartic, too. Cathartic! That's the word I was too tired to think of earlier. A reporter mentioned that this coverage brings back memories for even old, deep losses of loved ones, which I found true for myself. joelise - I too hope this week has in some way been cathartic for you.
