This is making me cry and I’m just a dumb American girl. Like most of us, she’s been the queen my entire life … but in my case, her coronation was just shortly before I was born.
And Charles will not step aside, and neither should he.

When she passes, my fingers are crossed that Charles steps aside and let’s William become king. I just can’t stomach Charles. I don’t think this will happen. I personally think Charles should and will become King.

Like many others have said, this makes me incredibly sad. She's been the Queen since I was 5. I can't fathom how our UK peas feel.

The UK Reddit is saying that BBC broke into programming and that they played a photo montage and when the announcers came back on air they were all in black suits. It certainly seems like an announcement is imminent. This does not sound good I don't know if this is true or not, but in The Crown on Netflix, when Elizabeth's father died, didn't they wait until everyone had been informed, and Elizabeth had already taken over as Queen before his death was announced? I'm a dumb American who doesn't know much about the English monarchy. LOL

I have loved her and respected her all of my life. She is the epitome of dignity, honor and selflessness. I suppose this is bad news, but I pray that she can rally once again. There is no one like her, nor will there ever be.

She'll be a hard act for Charles to follow that's for sure and no one will be more aware of that than him

It's being reported seven members of the Royal household have landed in Aberdeen.

So there's a 45/60 min drive to Balmoral for them now before we hearing more I'd think at the earliest.

Aw, how very sad. I mean, we all know she wouldn't live forever, but when she actually passes, it will seem so strange without her there. I guess I really expected her to retire any time now so she could mentor her son for his first year as king and maybe enjoy her life with a well-deserved break from service.

He's waited -- patiently -- his whole life. I just cannot imagine being over 70 and just starting my "job"! BUt I agree, he will not step aside, and actually I think he has done a good job in recent years representing the monarchy.

There is no one like her, nor will there ever be. Definitely the end of an era. She is a class act for sure. Charles has some mighty big shoes to fill when he does become king. And this may not be a popular opinion, but I have always felt a bit bad for Charles. Yeah, he clearly didn't choose wisely when he married Diana. But maybe he didn't even want to, but felt forced into it. Camilla is clearly the love of his life, and they seem very happy together now. I wonder how different the monarchy would look now if he had married her then instead of Diana. I have always been a bit fascinated with the British monarchy, but I can't say I know a great deal about it. LOL

I don't necessarily think this is the end, or else Kate would have her parents stay with the children as they start school and go with William. Maybe (and this is just a huge guess) she just wanted to turn over the monarchy to Charles and is briefing the family, letting them in on a few decisions? And she can brief them on things she wants them to do (e.g., Harry, please, for the love of God, can you and Megan talk about something other than our family?)

I have always had the utmost respect for her. I think she has always tried to do the right thing, even if I've disagreed with it at times. She has seemed to be a woman of integrity who has managed to overall successfully bridge an astounding range of eras. I hope this is not the end for her, but it doesn't sound good. Heck, just having 7 royals travel on a plane together doesn't sound good.
ETA - Just saw the plane passengers included William, Andrew, Edward, and Sophie. Doesn't sound good to have that many heirs on the same plane - seems like it must be critical. I'm glad they are letting family-ness override some protocol here.

You don't go and make an announcement to acquaintances (in this case the public) before the family is all informed. Also there is just so much that goes into this I'm sure, best to wait and do it properly.

What an incredible life she has led. Think of all she has seen and done in her 70 years as queen. Those are some mighty impressive shoes that Charles will be filling, and I think he will fill them quite nicely.

Here's the list of who've I have seen has arrived (or possibly on their way still): Charles & Cam William Anne & Timothy Andrew Edward & Sophie Harry & Meghan Who else would we expect to be there? Mike & Zara? Bea & Eugenie? Peter? I don't know if the younger grandchildren would be included or not?

It seems to me that if she is still alive, but not expected to live much longer, the younger children would go to say goodbye to her. If she has already died, then maybe they wouldn't be there?

I unfortunately think based on what information has already been announced she has passed, and protocol is being followed. I hope I am incorrect.

I remember when I was young, I used to stupidly think that when an older person died, the family wouldn't be as sad since the person had lived a good long life. DUMB, I know!! But then my great aunt died, who I was sooo close to my entire life. She died a few months after her 90th birthday. Yeah, she lived a good long life, but I can tell you that 20 years later (she died in 2002), I still miss her terribly. I'm sure Queen Elizabeth's family will be devastated with a hole in the family for a very long time. They seem like they are a close knit family, and this loss will be heartbreaking for them.
