I think I got my answer as to who votes for the crazies…. They're the same people who buy those tabloids sold in the grocery check-out lane that have headlines like, "Jackie O Alive & Having Alien Baby!" It's bad enough that we have to share a planet with people so gullible, but it's horrible that they get to vote.

Sadly, those videos gave me a chuckle! Don't these people realize how ridiculous they sound??? LOVED the male reporter! They still held onto these cuckoo ideas about Halloween. And the other woman (from Russia??): GO BACK. Sorry, but if she "loves Putin", why the hell did she come here??? Did she come here from 2015-2020 for TFG? I just don't get it......... So now, Putin is 100% great and fine (and #2) and TFG is the best and #1?? Uh-huh, lady... you're nuts!
ETA: To be fair, I did see on my local (Florida) news that Fentanyl was shown in a baggie and it was multi-colored. It looked like those sour/sweet candies. They didn't say anything about "illegals handing it away for Halloween" but they DID intimate that it was found amongst elementary school-aged children. I didn't see any proof or any further stories about it. (Sounds like Fox News took it even further to intimate that illegal immigrants here now are in houses, and they PLAN on giving Fentanyl out as Halloween candy to children------------again, SHOW.THE.PROOF.)

Wow. As the batter swings the bat slips out of his hand heading straight toward the dugout. So while players in the dugout are moving to get out of the way of the flying bat, one guy just casually grabs it..

Here is another example of just how fucking stupid republican voters truly are. Several posted on either next door and local FB groups convinced this was going to happen. I explained that no one is going to give out hundreds of dollars worth of drugs to kids. Then someone said but they heard they were in skittles bags. No idea if true but again I said maybe they transport that way but won’t be handing them out for Halloween. I said it’s always a good idea to check their kids candy just like we have for at least 50 years but not for this reason. Some people just don’t have a brain in their heads and it’s getting worse. At least I think more people thought I was being reasonable than normal. There are plenty of things to be worried about but this isn’t one of them. Now being afraid of drugs overall yes it’s a huge problem but not them being given out at Halloween.

No it wasn’t. “Hey so and so I need you to find x number of votes so I can win the state”. Not only is that not ok, it certainly wasn’t his right to do it either.

I live in CA and I have AC and nobody has “written me a letter” telling me not to use my AC.
What PG&E asked people to do during those two heat waves was cool the house down with your AC then from the hours of 4-9 turn the AC up to 78. Which I did, no biggie.

When elementary aged children live with drug addicts odd things show up in elementary school. Kids are curious, kids watch what you do, the drugs are not as secret from the kids as the addicts think they are. My sisters grand kid got into the fathers drugs, they had to call cps. Thankfully not fentanyl and thankfully didn’t eat it.

hop2 That's sadly a different story than the crazed lady in the TFG video. NO ONE is handing out BAGFULS of rainbow colored fentanyl tabs to children. It would kill them. What's the point? If you're a drug dealer, you want to SELL them. This sounds stupid all around. ITA that children sadly living with anyone addicted to drugs puts them in a very dangerous category. Living with or being anywhere near someone with a terminal illness makes it tempting for addicts to dip into their strong drugs. I get that. I'm so sorry about your sister's grandkids. Thank God it wasn't fentanyl. Even if it was the usual morphine, it's deadly. They shouldn't be anywhere NEAR the father, unsupervised (unless your sister or the caregiver keeps his meds in a secure locked box)!!!!!!!!! I was told when DH had terminal cancer that this box of many drugs WAS SERIOUS. I kept it in my refrigerator, in the back where it would be difficult to spot, but Hospice warned me again and again to watch the box. Watch that it wasn't unsealed/opened. Once Gary did need those drugs (only the last 2 days of his life), was when we opened the box and I then kept it in a lockbox. It's pretty scary!!!!!!! I even keep my tylenol 4's locked up. Not only do I not want to even lose 1, but I know it's dangerous to children, pets, and everyone. The statement that this whacked out lady (definitively) about illegals HAVING HOUSES and planning to GIVE AWAY fentanyl in rainbow colors in bags, just sounded like the most cracked out thing I've heard in a while!

I agree with Newsom that the Democrats need to control the narrative and have so for a long time.
I agree with him when he says all this polarization makes one weary.
And I agree with him about immigration. I think there is a lack of will in both parties to realistically deal with immigration. There has been since the 1986 Immigration Reform act. IMO.
From the Washington Post…
“Opinion The paradoxes of Gavin Newsom”
By E.J. Dionne Jr. Columnist
Gift Article
“Let’s explore the paradoxes of Gavin Newsom.
By taking on his right-wing Republican counterparts in Florida and Texas, California’s Democratic governor has gone national in a big way — and earned the gratitude of many in his party who are tired of being pushed around.
Newsom doesn’t regret his public war with Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis and Texas Gov. Greg Abbott, but he does speak of it somewhat wistfully, as a task he really wishes he didn’t have to undertake. In an interview Friday, he distinguished between “the person that I want to be versus the person I’m becoming.”
Taking on DeSantis, Abbott and the right, he says, is “a tactic to meet this moment. And so, yes, I’m pushing back. … I’m trying to change the narrative because I think they’re dominating the narrative.”
He speaks with pride at having joined former president Donald Trump’s social media platform, Truth Social, in June to call out what he called “the red-state murder problem,” a reference to the fact that eight of the 10 states with the highest murder rates happened to have voted Republican in every election since 2000.
But Newsom insists that he’s weary of “how polarized we’ve become, how traumatized we’ve become through this pandemic, being so socially distant from each other in every way, and how tribalism is dominant.”
What you might call The Newsom Tension is reflected in the reason he reached out to have a conversation — not because he wanted to press on with his boisterous, attention-grabbing sparring with the GOP’s Sun Belt duo, or to reinforce his efforts on behalf of abortion and LGBTQ rights, but to plug what he called his “proudest moment” as governor:
Friday saw the swearing-in of the first 3,200 members of the state’s new College Corps, which pays low-income students $10,000 annually for undertaking service jobs. The students come from 46 campuses and will serve in 600 different community organizations.
Perhaps it’s a comment on our bitter moment that Newsom’s innovative approach to service is likely to be of wide interest primarily as a counterpoint to his political pugilism. But it’s a cause he’s passionate about. He names Sargent Shriver, the first director of the Peace Corps, as his hero, and his administration has a chief service officer — not your standard bureaucratic post.
Josh Fryday, the Navy veteran and former small-city mayor who holds the job, hopes other states will imitate a program he sees as a next-generation GI Bill. “If you are willing to serve your community,” Fryday says, “we are willing to help you pay for school.”
Newsom freely acknowledges “going back and forth” between the “clenched fist” of partisan warfare and warmer feelings inspired by “these remarkable kids that just don’t care about that, they still care about something bigger than that.” The man who has relished taking it to the likes of DeSantis and Abbott insists he’d prefer a more peaceable republic. “At a certain point we’re all exhausted,” he says. “At a certain point, this has to end. It’s just too much. … How do we get out of this?” One path out, he thinks, is compulsory national service, drawing citizens together to combat the loss of a “common story” and a “common experience.”
There are other Newsom paradoxes. He is, in many ways, a moderate. In describing his service program, he reaches back to the decades-old slogan of the centrist (and now-defunct) Democratic Leadership Council: “Opportunity, Responsibility, Community.” He referred to himself as a businessperson five times in a roughly 45-minute interview.
Yet he roundly defends his state’s highly progressive tax structure and signed into law a raft of progressive bills. They include pro-labor laws on behalf of fast-food workers and farmworkers; a major climate package; generous new family-leave benefits for lower-income workers; and legal protections for transgender youth. He is particularly proud that the state has set up college savings accounts for low-income children.
Newsom is fond of “mantras” — his word — that sand down frictions: “growth and inclusion,” for example, or “diversity and dynamism.” He praises President Biden for offering a “master class of substance” but can also scold fellow Democrats. “We have a completely broken immigration system,” he says. “Where the hell is my party in that?”
And the biggest tension of all? After turning himself into a national player, Newsom, who has a big lead in his reelection race, insists tenaciously that he is not running for president. “Look, there’s nothing special about me,” he says. “I’m a guy that got 960 on my SAT and struggled to read.” “I’m getting invitations now to all of these barbecues and dinners,” he adds. “And I’m turning them down because if I turn up, then no one, including myself, will believe anything I say.”
Maybe it’s one more paradox: Such words won’t stop Democrats fed up with Republican bullies from keeping his inbox busy.”
