first, I agree with out about prone position, but what if you had done everything by the book and the child's body reacted badly. It could have been an undiagnosed heart condition. Or a blood clot or something to do with the lungs. But that isn't what happened with the child who died or the man who died in a choke hold. We can play the what-if game forever. I maintain there was never a reason for the officer to put him in the hold in the first place. Especially after watching that video, he wasn't acting violently towards them, he was gesturing, and looked upset. He wasn't attacking them, and there were far too many men to his one. It's inexcusable and the police should have been better. I don't have an issue with cops, I was raised by one. What I have an issue with is men with egos and positions of power abusing that power and hurting people unnecessarily. That man should not be dead. He didn't die in the choke hold, he died at the hospital later. There was significant failure on the part of the EMT in providing medical attention after they arrived. Once a decision to detain has been made, they can't just wait around until the suspect decides to stop arguing. They can't afford for it to escalate. I agree it is sad that he died. But there was not proof of justifiable homicide. We can argue all day long about detaining him for loosies, but Mayor Bloomburg and the chief of police had just made that a priority shortly before his death. They were following orders in arresting him.

Isn't the point of a protest to disrupt society and wake them up to the issues? If protesters go demonstrate in a park somewhere where they disturb no one how many people will notice or pay attention? Not very many and even fewer will discuss it. Seems like these protests are doing it right. Also I can't help but notice most posters seem to be focusing on two or three cases. That would be awesome if only two or three unarmed black men had been killed by the police lately. Seems to me it's more like a bi-weekly occurrence.

That's a really good point. I'm starting to see that sentiment as well. Lawlessness is okay but if those tasked to uphold the law, they are deemed the criminals. That and the wide brush that every single cop is a criminal waiting to kill someone. That much drives me crazy. And some people will never hold those that commit crimes accountable for their actions.
It's amazing that any individual even wants to pursue law enforcement. I worry that one day, there won't be enough people to hire and we will have a true shortage.
Dh wanted to be a police officer, I asked him not to because I didn't want to worry about him coming home after every shift. He is still in law enforcement, but he works in the jail instead of on the streets.

Stabbing in BrooklynIt's gotten so bad that people are begging the cop NOT to shoot the criminal, even when he is stabbing a man in the head? This is going to far.
