The bill is stalled. It’s not a law yet and it’s looking increasingly unlikely it will be.

It went through the Senate, stalled in the House. I live in California and we voted to end time changes back in 2018, still nothing has happened. I'm pretty sure we're never going to get out of this clock changing nightmare.

I hate clock changes so much.
This morning I was NATURALLY awake at 5:45. Can't wait to be awake at 4:45 until March! Sigh.

Yeah, to go on permanent DST you need Federal approval. We can stay on standard time permanently, like Hawaii and Arizona, without Federal approval. I wonder why it is ok to be on Standard time year-round.

I prefer making the change. If we stay on Daylight time year round, it would still be dark at 9am.
I love the summer nights when it doesnt get dark until close to 10pm.

And we didn't even vote which time we would stay on permanently, just that we would stop changing the time. "A yes vote supported allowing the California State Legislature to change the dates and times of the daylight saving time (DST) period, as consistent with federal law, by a two-thirds vote, including establishing permanent, year-round standard time or permanent, year-round DST (if federal law is changed to allow for permanent DST)."

It's a little convoluted. Experts on sleeping say that DST is the worst and messes with our circadian rhythm. Who knows? I just want to stick with one thing.

IDFC which one we stay on. I just want the clock changing to stop! Seriously, can we please stop changing the clocks? Exactly. I don’t even have any clue which one is “real” time anyway. People gripe all the time about it being dark in the morning or conversely being dark early at night. My thought is that nothing is ever going to please everyone, and I imagine we would all get used to which ever one we chose. People live quite happily in Alaska with extended darkness during winter and never getting truly dark in summer, us lower 48 can acclimate too. I bet if they just picked a time and stuck with it in about a year no one would even think twice about if it was dark in the morning or dark at night. Is it true that we can’t go to DST without federal approval, but we could be on real time all the time without Federal approval? Then I think we are effing idiots and need to be on real time all the time.

Seems like such a simple thing to get rid of it. I guess not. 'Merica It's not just America. The EU voted a few years back to stop the time changing, supposedly starting this year. They just couldn't decide which way to go - permanent DST or permanent standard time, and so said each country could decide for itself, which could end up with a patchwork of time zones over the bloc. Covid seems to have derailed any further discussion and decisions, so no one knows what is going to happen from here on in just yet. For now, we switched back to standard time last weekend, and may 'spring forward' next April.

I don't really care which time we're on because I never have trouble adjusting to it like some people do. But also I don't have young children or pets anymore and I remember those days. lol However, I think it's kind of funny how we all -- myself included -- use the words "don't forget to turn your clocks back/forward..." -- It's funny, because out of all the many time keepers in this house (computers, Kindles, watches, iPads, wall clocks, cable boxes, etc.) I only had to fix two of them this morning (the stove and the microwave). Everything else changed itself, including my Kindle that wasn't even connected to the wifi overnight. lol. Now, the clock in the car will be another story. Twice every year I have to get out the manual to figure out how to do it.

I like the changes because otherwise it is dark for so long in the morning. One of the reasons I remember it was instituted was so children wouldn't be waiting for the school bus in the dark.
I just don't see what the big deal is about changing the clock twice a year. I hope the repeal dies.

The issue is no one can agree which time to stop at. DST or not dst Here’s nj going to try to do this itself but I’m pretty sure that’s not going to work if it’s only us. As the article says too many work across state lines. It’ll be crazy. nj1015.com/nj-could-end-up-on-different-time-from-ny-and-pa-heres-how/It’ll be a bit of a nightmare if we all do different things

But mental health professionals say DST alleviates Seasonal Affective Disorder. My DIL is mental health professional who specialized in sleep disorders in her training. Her biggest issue is how to get her two small kids on schedule after a time change. It's a nightmare. I'm hoping we all go with DST. I don't worry about changing clocks. They all take care of themselves except the oven and it's a piece of cake.

My friend is a sleep therapist and she talks to be a lot about circadian rhythms and quite frankly it sounds (I haven't asked) that if you pay attention to getting sunlight first thing in the morning and last thing at night, many issues are solved. That is according to her and I don't have backup for that.

People always say that kids will have to wait for the bus in the dark or walk to school in the dark. That happens here anyway because schools start so early, in order to get them there on time the bus is picking them up in the dark. Every day I drive past the high school on my way to work at 6:45 am, it's dark and there's plenty of kids walking in.

I’m definitely not a fan of all the switching. It doesn’t matter in our house either because it was dark last week walking to the bus stop and it will still be dark this week walking to the bus stop. Once your kids are in the older grades here they’re going to school in the dark no matter what.
And LOL about the dogs wanting to get fed at their “normal” time. Yup, that happened today. The big dog still got me up at the usual time to go out to pee and since I was already up, could I fill his bowl too, please? 🙄 The little one is more my speed. She would have been happy to stay cuddled in bed for another hour, no problem. 😴

We're on standard time then, unless they mean it alleviates it when they spring forward.

I have a high schooler that has to be at the bus stop by 6:30 am, and a middle schooler that gets off the bus between 4:45 and 5:00 pm, either way one of them is walking to or from the bus stop in the dark...

Seems like such a simple thing to get rid of it. I guess not. 'Merica The fact that we are saying it over a freaking HOUR is depressing, how will we ever make decisions about important stuff? UGH. Ironically, I went to bed early (for me) last night and slept until about 730 - but it was also very warm here and I accidently kicked the dog too, so I had a real restless sleep. So much for that extra hour of rest!

Personally, I think that we should stay on Standard Time - being astronomically correct and all. However, I don't care which one is picked - just stop the change.

Yes, it is going to suck for some people regardless of what we do, I suppose. It was getting dark here before 4 today and by December 20th, it will be dark closer to three. Tonight the moon was almost above our house by 6:30. Crazy. I do hope it passes. I think businesses and schools may adjust to DST if it is here to stay.

I think this map helps show what would happen if we stayed on DST permanently. Personally, I would prefer it but places in the western part of time zones in Michigan, North Dakota, Montana (and Alaska because of how far north it is) really get screwed with sunrise after 10 am. On the other hand, eastern parts of time zones, including most of the Northeast have early sunsets, before 5 pm. The Senate passed the bill but a couple of senators(Rubio & Murray) snuck it through without a vote when there were not very many Senators in the chamber. Basically, there were no objections, so it passed. The bill never went through a committee, never had any hearings and didn't have a roll call vote. The minority & majority whips didn't even know it passed until reporters asked them questions. Gift article - no paywall wapo.st/3WFpK6jThis map is interactive & shows all of the options for sunrise & sunset. andywoodruff.com/blog/where-to-hate-daylight-saving-time-and-where-to-love-it/And this one shows how time changes affect our circadian rhythms. I don't think there's a paywall. www.washingtonpost.com/wellness/interactive/2022/permanent-standard-time-body-health-benefits/
