Marc Elias has been saying this for the last couple of months. It’s his law firm that has been handling a fair number of law suits that have been filed against the right’s gerrymandering and voter suppression laws. It was his law firm that was the one used to counter the lawsuits trump and his minions filed after the 2020. They won 60 of those suits compared to team trump’s one win.
President Biden has been saying and gave two speeches about it.
President Obama talked about it this past weekend while stumping for Democratic candidates.
Some guy wrote “Be sure and vote because this could be our last free and fair election”.
Are the Democrats over reacting? Maybe and maybe they are spot on if we don’t take this seriously.
President Obama said “what kind of political party doesn’t want people to vote?”
Good question because it seems we have one.
At some point the Republicans decided they no longer wanted to govern but instead they just wanted the power without doing any work.
So they set about finding ways to give them the edge in elections that would all but guarantee they would win elections. And do it without offering the voters anything. They started with gerrymandering districts in their favor and passing voter laws that made needlessly tough for certain groups of voters to vote.
They were winning elections but not enough.
Then trump came along and showed these red state legislators what they needed to do to guarantee they would win elections no matter how the voters voted.
trumps actions and lawsuits showed these red state legislators what they needed to fix so they could overturn an election.
And they have been busy. Some of their actions have caused lawsuits by different groups and the law firm mostly used has been Elias’s firm.
But roughly 300 of the gang that is claiming the election was stolen from trump are running for key offices that put them in the position to affect the results of elections. Imagine the chaos they could cause to future elections if enough are elected. Add to that there is a case Moore vs Harper before the Supreme Court that From Axios…
“In Moore v. Harper, North Carolina's Republican legislative leaders are arguing that the U.S. Constitution gives state legislatures exclusive authority over elections.
If the court rules in their favor, state legislatures across the country could have the final say in drawing congressional districts as well as implementing voting rules.
That means state courts could not strike down political maps drawn by the legislature over gerrymandering, as it has numerous times in the last decade.”
Give state legislators “exclusive” authority over elections. What possibly could go wrong?
So here we are we coukd lose the ability to have free and fair elections in this country.
The question is will enough voters turn out to stop this and will the Supreme Court screw the American People again in siding with the state legislators that they do have exclusive authority over elections?
As a reminder of what the Republicans in Congress are promising the American People if they take back the majority.
1. Impeach President Biden, Attorney General Garland and Homeland Secretary Mayorkas. Why? Because according MTG that is what the American People want.
2. They are planning on cutting Social Security & Medicare.
3. Make the trump tax cuts to the rich and corporations permanent. They plan to eliminate the tax increase on the 1% that passed in the BBB just passed.
4. Eliminate the maximum limit for insulin that was just passed in the BBB bill.
5. Stop all aid to Ukraine. Which means they either support Putin or they don’t understand or ignoring the sufficiency of stopping Putin in Ukraine for the United States. 6. They will ignore the affects of climate change on the American People.
7. Jim Jordan released a 1,000 page report on the “corruption” of the FBI and DOJ who he fully intends to investigate if the GOP takes back the majority. It should be noted that 1,000 page report consists of about 40 pages of an actually report and the remainder of the 1,000 pages is signature pages and footnotes.
There more like this but I think President Obama said it best when he asked “How is any of this going to help pay the American People’s bills”?
He has a point.

How can a country have a fee and fair election with this going on? Would you be comfortable seeing armed militia at your polling place or a ballot drop off spot?
From the article…
While Arizona has seen a host of voter-intimidation reports, the state is certainly not alone. Fears about voter intimidation and suppression have been brewing nationwide since the 2020 presidential election, when Trump refused to accept his loss and accused several states of voter fraud.
The rising rhetoric has tensions running high going into Tuesday’s midterms. Two in five U.S. voters said they were worried about threats of violence or voter intimidation at the polls, according to a new Reuters/Ipso poll.
The same disinformation about election fraud that fueled the Jan. 6, 2021, Capitol riot is the same disinformation that’s “threatening political violence related to our elections,” Mary McCord, the executive director of the Institute for Constitutional Advocacy and Protection and former federal
“And by political violence, I don’t just mean physical violence. I mean intimidation, voter intimidation, intimidation and threats and harassment against our election workers, aggressive recruitment of poll watchers from groups like the Proud Boys and Oath Keepers to be really a force for intimidation at the polls, and other types of really anti-democratic processes that are being driven, again, by the same disinformation and lies about the 2020 election,” McCord said.”

From Axios…. link”Two N.C. cases await the U.S. Supreme Court's ruling”The Supreme Court's new term is now underway, and two of the most high-profile cases on the docket stem from North Carolina. Why it matters: No matter the outcome of those cases, the impact of the court's decision will reverberate far beyond our state. With a conservative 6-3 majority, the court may continue shifting rightward as it did in its last term, when justices struck down the right to abortion and limited the federal government's ability to curb greenhouse gas emissions. "On things that matter most," Irv Gornstein, the executive director of the Supreme Court Institute at Georgetown Law, told the New York Times, "get ready for a lot of 6-3s." The bottom line: The North Carolina cases that have made their way up to the Supreme Court are among those that will matter most. The first case, brought by an anti-affirmative action group, challenges race-conscious admissions at UNC-Chapel Hill and Harvard. Justices will hear arguments later this month on whether to continue allowing universities and colleges to consider race as a factor in admissions. In the UNC case, lower courts have sided with the school. Like it did in Dobbs v. Jackson Women's Health Organization, the court could overturn a longstanding precedent. The second case could have a massive impact on federal elections.
In Moore v.

When confronted with the lie about the 2020 election the new collective response from GOP is “well Hillary did it to”.
I pondered that answer “Well Hillary did it to” .
What I remember is Hillary called and conceded the race to dumpster don that night. She gave her concession speech the next day. And she attended his inauguration. She did not challenge the vote count of the three states that basically gave dumpster don the win. Even though the total votes she lost by was 77,000 votes spread between the three states.
I don’t remember her not accepting the results.
But there were legitimate reasons to wonder if the Russian misinformation campaign and Comey’s letter about nothing 11 days before the election did rob her of a win that she would have otherwise gotten.
4.4 million Americans who voted for President Obama in 2012 did not vote for Hillary in 2016. There could be all kind of reasons why they didn’t vote for Hillary but one has to take into consideration the Russian misinformation campaign and Comey’s letter about nothing as reasons why some of these decided not to vote for Hillary.
We will never know for sure because there is no way of finding out how many people, if any, were influenced by the Russian misinformation and/or Comey’s letter about nothing.
FireThirtyEight did say once Comey’s letter was made public her poll numbers tanked. They had started to recover by Election Day but it was too late.
Bottom line Hillary Clinton could have very well been robbed of the win because of outside forces affecting the election.
While dumpster don is making specific accusations of people’s actions, committing fraud, with no verifiable evidence to back up what he is claiming. Even two years after the fact there is no proof of what he is claiming. One would think by now if there had been the kind of voter massive fraud he’s claiming it would have involved a lot of folks and someone would have spilled the beans by now. But nothing, no proof, just lies.
And because it seems to be a successful ploy some could very well try it tomorrow after the election results roll in.
Won’t that be fun.

Son of a gun. Looked what just popped up.
From AP…
”Yevgeny Prigozhin, an entrepreneur known as “Putin’s chef” because of his catering contracts with the Kremlin, on Monday admitted he had interfered in U.S. elections and said he would continue to do so — for the first time confirming the accusations he has been rejecting for years.
“We have interfered, are interfering and will continue to interfere. Carefully, precisely, surgically and in our own way,” Prigozhin said in remarks posted by his spokespeople on social media.
Prigozhin, a dozen other Russian nationals and three Russian companies were charged with operating a covert social media campaign aimed at fomenting discord and dividing American public opinion ahead of the 2016 U.S. presidential election.
They were indicted in 2018 as part of special counsel Robert Mueller’s investigation into Russian election interference.“

Meanwhile, Dan Crenshaw of Texas, with whom I vehemently disagree on most things, is one of the few Republicans to admit publicly that the 2020 election was not stolen and that lawmakers who continued to say that it was *knew that they were lying.* Telling lies that got people harassed, threatened, and killed. Telling lies that helped destroy American faith in our electoral process. Telling lies that have damaged and further divided our country. This should be disqualifying. Every elected official who promoted the big lie should never be able to hold office in this country again. And the Americans who believed them need to take a long, hard look at themselves in the mirror. www.khou.com/article/news/politics/dan-crenshaw-election-deniers-lying/285-0783188b-9026-4ab3-bdd2-66d116fb4ca4

I’ve been concerned about all of the down ballot races for months, ever since it became common knowledge that all of these election deniers around the country were winning Republican primaries for Secretary of State. If enough of them win, combined with the right wing majority in the Supreme Court, could easily spell that the fix is in going forward for any election they don’t like the legitimate outcome on.
I honestly can’t believe that more people aren’t gravely concerned about this. Minority rule is already a thing in this country due to the extreme gerrymandering in many areas which already gives the Republican minority a huge advantage. Once they really get going with changing laws, if you aren’t under their (small) umbrella, you can consider yourself royally screwed.

The GOP candidate has said that he wants a secretary of the commonwealth who will do elections the way he wants them done. This might be PA’s last free & fair election. If they win. They have already said that the county Philadelphia is in is ‘rigged’ ( its progressive leaning )

I started a thread on Texas voter suppression a few days ago and we can add this to the list: increasing reports of Texas students attending college out of state, who requested absentee ballots before the deadline, not receiving their ballots. They do not want young people voting here.

ETA - I just checked the status and her lawsuit was blocked by a judge today. I posted on another thread that her attorney had the gall to YELL at the judge in court. I'll try to find it.. *** How to win over a judge..... NOT!!! On Thursday, USA TODAY reported that things went off the rails at a hearing in a lawsuit filed by Michigan GOP secretary of state candidate Kristina Karamo to block the counting of tens of thousands of ballots from Detroit — as her lawyer yelled at the judge and spouted conspiracy theories.Attorney Daniel Hartman also pressed for specific details about election security plans in Michigan's largest city ahead of the Nov. 8 midterm," reported Clara Hendrickson. "Hartman grew angry when Wayne County Circuit Court Chief Judge Timothy Kenny noted that the lawsuit would prevent military voters deployed overseas from having their ballots counted in the election because the complaint asks the court declare only absentee ballots requested in person can count.""You are asking for... somebody who wants an absentee ballot has to come in to the Detroit clerk's office. That excludes the military," Kenny told Hartman, noting his own son is a veteran. To which Hartman shouted, "To characterize me as trying to disenfranchise the military voter is offensive ... I'm tired of being called a racist by [opposing counsel David] Fink." www.rawstory.com/karamo-2658596436/

Try this... Importing observers to watch the possibility of our democracy failing.. On Monday, The New Republic reported that foreign tourists are coming to the United States to simply watch people vote, in the hope of witnessing chaos should the democratic process in the country break down.'Folks, US ‘democracy’ has become such a clown show that English and Australian tourists are booking specialized election experience tours & disrupting canvasses,' writer Gwen Snyder warned on Twitter Monday," reported Tori Otten. "Citing a friend of hers who works with Get Out The Vote in Philadelphia, a typically blue haven in an otherwise red state, Snyder said that 'far right disruptors' were showing up to GOTV events and pelting organizers with an endless stream of strange, highly detailed questions. All of them seemed to be British or Australian." “Turns out, these were tourists that had PAID A COMPANY to deliver them a front seat at the US election zoo,” said Snyder on Twitter. “Anyway, it’s election eve and everyone on the ground is now scrambling to figure out how to protect their canvasses from weird intrusive election tourists in this, one of the most critical turn out areas in the country.” According to the report, the group, known as Political Tours, brings people from around the world — mostly wealthy tourists from English-speaking countries like the U.S., the U.K., and Australia — to witness elections in troubled countries, and this year the U.S. itself is a hot destination: "The six-day U.S. tour costs £3,950, about $4,500, and includes a visit to polling stations on Election Day. The website mentions visiting Virginia and Pennsylvania, both of which will witness toss-up races for Congress." This comes as armed vigilante groups were admonished by a federal judge for setting up camp outside of some drop boxes in Arizona, motivated by the debunked conspiracy theory film "2,000 Mules". It also comes as some key Republican candidates, like Wisconsin gubernatorial candidate Tim Michels, are vowing that Republicans will never lose another election again if they are put in office. "Any disruptions at the voting booth could cause delays, which could be seized upon by Republicans as a reason to blame Democrats for rigging the election," added Otten. "The last thing the country needs is tourists at the voting booth." www.rawstory.com/foreign-tourists-elections/

Only if you get to vote... Missed this one earlier... 'My voice will not be silenced': Pennsylvanians scramble to vote again after GOP lawsuit tossed their ballotsMatthew Chapman November 07, 2022 On Monday, The Washington Post reported that following a Republican-backed lawsuit that forced the Pennsylvania Supreme Court to toss out thousands of ballots, voters are scrambling to cast another, correct ballot — with long lines to do so in Philadelphia in particular. "Multiple judges have ruled over the past two years that mail ballots returned on time by eligible Pennsylvania voters should be counted even if they lack a date on the outer envelope. Republicans sued in October to reverse that policy, arguing that it violated state law. Last Tuesday, they won a favorable ruling from the state Supreme Court, which directed counties not to count ballots with missing or inaccurate dates," reported Emma Brown and Amy Gardner. "That decision triggered a sprawling volunteer-run effort to make sure voters who had already returned their ballots knew that their votes would not count if they didn’t take action." "Nowhere has that effort been more intense than in Philadelphia. On Saturday, city officials published the names of more than 2,000 voters who had returned defective ballots and urged them to come to City Hall to cast a new ballot in the few days remaining before Election Day. Community activists and volunteers for the Democratic Party and the Working Families Party began calling, texting and knocking on people’s doors to get the word out," the report continued. "On Monday, the line to cast a replacement vote at City Hall snaked outside and into the building’s courtyard as volunteers supplied snacks and bottled water, according to voters and activists." According to the report, many voters are determined and angry, and view the whole thing as a plot to strip them of their franchise. “Oh I’m going to vote. It’s not a question,” said Kirby Smith, who stood in line at City Hall for most of the work day. “I’m going to fight back.” Penina Bernstein, who had travel back to Philadelphia from Colorado at personal expense after learning on social media her undated ballot wouldn't count, said, “I am flying home tonight and I will be there to fix it tomorrow, because my voice will not be silenced by voter suppression.” "City officials had announced that voters could cast a replacement at City Hall until 5 p.m. Monday. But about 3:45, officials told some people in line that they would not reach the office before closing time and could not vote," said the report. "The decision upset some people, and sheriff’s deputies arrived to enforce the decision. City Commissioner Seth Bluestein, a Republican, wrote on Twitter that it was a 'disgrace' that voters were being put in the position of trying to cure their ballots at the last minute. City officials are 'doing the best they can to help as many voters as possible with very little time and resources,' he wrote." This comes amid a number of other attempts by Republicans to set aside ballots around the country. Today in Wisconsin, a state judge in Waukesha County rejected a Republican-backed lawsuit to sequester ballots cast by members of the military. www.rawstory.com/pa-ballot-2022/
