Thoughts?
I want to feel special and dressed up, but not in a conventional long white wedding dress.
I feel good in fit and flare, v or scoop neck. I have a belly and saddlebags, and big old bewbies. A good waist though-- hence the fit and flare.
I won't wear high heels. Anything over 1 1/2 inch just ain't gonna happen.

First of all, best wishes! That's very exciting!
I love A-line dresses. Think they are flattering on everyone. Take a peek there.

In other news, you're getting married. Best wishes and woohoo! ITA w/ peabay about an A-line dress. Any ideas and thoughts about the type of wedding you want?

congratulations!!!
I was kind of in the same boat- we got married after being together 15 years, and it was just us and two witnesses. So I didn't want a 'wedding' dress, but something fancier than my usual. And since we were getting married outside in a forest preserve, it couldn't be anything too frou-frou, lol.
I made an appointment with a personal shopper at one of the larger Nordstrom's stores in the area. We first talked on the phone so I could tell her what I was looking for and the occasion, and she sent me links to a few dresses from their store online. I told her which ones I liked, didn't like, and why... and when I got to the appointment she had at least 4-6 dresses ready in different sizes, based on what I had told her. She even helped me pick out proper undergarments, jewelry, and shoes. I got an A-line style dress that flared out a bit, came to mid-calf (ish), and had elbow-length sleeves. It was kind of a dusty blue with a floral pattern. We used the dress to choose my DH's shirt color and his bow tie. And the tailor in the men's department helped my DH pick out his shirt, pants and shoes, and get the clothing items tailored.
(fyi, the personal shopper service is free- I think they get commission on what they sell, but I didn't feel pressured by her at ALL. I used her services a couple other times, and she picked out items that I never would have, based on what she thought would look flattering on me. And she was right. I didn't buy everything she had selected, but I would definitely use their personal shopper service again.)

We've used it for our daughters first jobs - their first "professional" wardrobes. The shoppers are great and very low-pressure.

And I definitely agree with a stylist at Nordstrom- worth their weight in gold!

Congratulations on your upcoming wedding! Find the dress that makes you feel wonderful (looks good and comfortable). Nothing worse than being the center of attention and not feeling comfortable or constantly having to adjust clothing. I wouldn’t stress about heels. I’m also someone who refuses to have my feet hurt for looks.
When you know you look good and feel comfortable it’s going to show in photos.

Well now, this is happy news! Best wishes to you and congratulations to him! I'm not much help on shopping. I avoid dresses because I feel awkward in them. I can't wait to see the photos, though.

ny ideas and thoughts about the type of wedding you want? It will be small, informal. Fewer than 40 people. We are looking at a venue in a historical hotel in our town's cute little main street downtown area. We met with the hotel's wedding planner, and mostly just looked at her stupidly when she asked for specifics. My groom probably wasn't counting on marrying someone who is so event-planning deficient. We had a few "definitely not!" answers for her, but mostly a lot of shrugging. We're both rural-minded, he's from Dodge City, but maybe too conventional to embrace an extreme country-western style. I might like to wear cute cowboy boots if I find the right dress for it. I like raffia and burlap, but the room in this hotel has high ceilings and crystal chandeliers, which feels more formal than I'd hoped for. Other than that, we like this venue.

Remember that there are no rules here. This is your day and you can have whatever you want. You can incorporate cowboy boots. You could get white boots w/some bling. Just have fun w/it. No expectations other than having a lifelong partner who is the icing on your cake.

CONGRATULATIONS!
Wear a dress that you love and feel pretty in.
My wedding dress was yellow and tea length. I still love it.

Super congratulations! I'm sure whatever you choose you will be beautiful!
I'm zero help on dresses The one and only time my husband got to see me in a dress was on our wedding day. They're just not my thing, but I do agree Nordstrom's is a great place to shop

We don't know. We are in a university town (KU), and this wedding planner warned us about all of the college stuff that interferes with wedding planning at their hotel.. so, maybe in the summer?
This relationship is going together like a puzzle, rather than the traditional linear way lots of people get together... prenup, he's selling his place, he wants to build a barn on my/our property to put stuff in... it's been sort of NOT logical.
