I think we usually do this every year, right?
Which gifts were hits in your family and which were misses?

For my family:
Hits:
Younger kids got Switch lites and games to go with them. It was a huge splurge, but I knew they really wanted them.
With the adult kids, I bought their list items because they were pretty specific. Also threw in a few unexpected, useful but still fun, things.
Misses:
Haven't discovered a gift that was a miss yet.
But did discover that our family doesn't like cornbread stuffing. Oops!😁

This is a super small thing, but I bought DD a little glass/metal vintage nut grinder that matches the ones my mom and I have. They have to be at least 60 years old. I scored it at a garage sale. She thought I gave her mine. It is similar to this one, but I only paid $3 link

I bought my cousin and her husband a door mat with their names and GPS coordinates. They loved it.
No misses yet because the weather kept us home for Christmas. So we’ll find out in a couple of weeks.

The extended family get together has yet to be. All gifts so far were hits and welcome. I'll share a couple amsusing that I gave and brought the most smiles. Puking cat gravy boat. Yep, as you can imagine both gross and great. And useful. They're gonna get rid of the "regular" one they have. Like this: a.co/d/27zCyhwThe other is a second hand find I found. SS cookie hut. Looks like an island straw hut. When I saw it in the shelf with the price tag of $3 and change I immediately thought it could only be better if somehow linked to Gilligan's island. Then I opened the lid and a familiar tune played. Score! My eldest can still play and win "name that episode" from the first few opening seconds of any show. I can't tell you how many times that cheap find was opened and closed over the holidays. Love it for the joy and memories.

Well, I went shopping for DH with oldest DS (19yo) and he asked for ideas for me (from dh). There was a shirt that I liked and it was pretty clear he told dh about it. He apparently also told my other son about it. Anyway, dh ordered it in two colors and DS got it in another color. DS seemed to think it is cool that I have all of the colors so I will probably keep them but kind of want to exchange the two from dh. They weren’t cheap shirts and I don’t know that I need all three. But we will see.

Hits both for dil. I gave her a winnie the Pooh comforter like the one she had as a child and it got tossed in her parents messy divorce. She has been wanting to replace it.
Then in the toe of her stocking I gave her a small silver ring with a heart and a tiny amethyst. She wanted something to remember her baby she lost 2 years ago at almost 20 weeks pregnant. I looked over at her and she had tears streaming down her face looking at the ring on her hand. She was so moved by it. She told my dgd who asked why she was crying that grandma gave her a very special gift and they were happy tears.
Misses: already on another thread but ds1 refurb ipad mini has to be returned as it won't download apps. Also a game he wanted was moldy inside. Got wet somewhere along but I didnt notice. It was dry when I got it. Anyway being returned. Also one gift he wanted didnt get bought. No one realized until he asked about it.
I gave dgd1 a large American Girl doll set up almost all purchased second hand. I made an ice rink and 2 of them were skating. She played with it almost all day and even I had fun with it.
My aunt gave me a shirt. Not my style but I appreciate her generosity and that she thinks of me.
I think the best gifts I gave were to dil, including an ulta gift card and an antique flyer and bobbin for her spinning wheel in addition to the ring and comforter.

Hits:
- My daughter (9 years old) got pink walkie talkies from Santa and is delighted. She loved all of her gifts, but was especially excited about that, Sleeping Queens 2, and some unicorn pajamas.
- I got my husband a Star Trek tee shirt and sweatshirt and he left the room and immediately changed into them, even though he was already dressed for the day.
- My parents gave me a clock that looks vintage-y and is my favorite shade of mustard yellow. I can't wait to hang it in my craft room!
Misses:
- My dad got an oil diffuser from a family friend that came for Christmas. He was gracious about it, but I know he was like, "wtf is THIS???" I've never had one and can fit what I know about essential oils in a thimble, but I kind of hope he'll give it to me, lol.
I think that's all, really! As usual, it was hard to tell if my 20-year-old loved his physical gifts or was "meh" about them...but most were games, so maybe he won't know until we play them? He mostly got cash this year b/c he had no list!

The biggest hits here were some sneakers. My oldest daughter wanted a new pair of Hokas. She’s going to Australia for her spring semester, and needed something she could walk for miles in. My youngest daughter asked for a pair of Veja sneakers, and I managed to find her the hard-to-find style she asked for. Both pairs fit perfectly and they are so happy.

We don’t have misses because we each make wish lists and no one goes off list! Boring but it does make it easy.

The only miss was one of my gifts. I asked for a new return label address stamp, specified I didn’t want it to be round or too big. I got a round one that was way too big for my preferred size of envelopes for thank you cards. Oh well.

My daughter and I had a lot of fun planning our gift to my husband and son. Notre Dame plays NC State at Raleigh next Fall. My son is a Notre Dame grad and my husband is a big fan. My daughter and her fiancé live in Raleigh and he is a NC State grad. He has four season tickets. I’m am going to pay for my husband, my son and myself to fly to Raleigh for the game. My daughter and her fiancé are providing a place to stay and four tickets to the game. I’ll buy the fifth ticket.
My daughter and I made two fake tickets to the game on the computer and wrapped them in two packages which we had my son and husband open at the same time. They were happy and now we’ll all have a fun trip to look forward to!

Unexpected hit that I never would have thought of--fluffy/plush pillows for my teen boys. I found a Nebraska Huskers one for my oldest because I needed something for him that wasn't clothing, but then thought it would be a good idea for my youngest too because both of them spend a lot (too much) time chilling on either the couch or their beds while on their phones.

Misses - SIL gave a bottle of wine because it's in a shape of a cat. We don't have a cat anymore, I'm not that big of a cat lover, and I don't like white wine and have told her this a few times. DH got a bartender kit that's basically a duplicate of one he already has. I think bil misunderstood him when they talked about mixed drinks and whatnot.
I'm not convinced that the kids liked the car air fresheners that were in their stockings 😂.
Hits - Dad loved that I found some out of print Hot Wheels stamps for him. I got two sheets. One to use and framed the other. I found an orange mat board that was the perfect shade.
Strangely, the glasses cleaners and reusable ice cubes were the best received of the stocking stuffers. They liked the other stuff but for some reason, my oldest really liked the cubes.

All hits. We do lists and pretty much stick to them. There was one minor miss to me from D/H. He went rouge gave me a tee shirt with the Child graphic from the Mandelorian. A bit weird and it was a child size medium, but it was the thought.

My mother gave my 9-year-old this fuzzy, super soft blanket that she bought on a whim, and everyone in my houses wishes it had been gifted to them! Definitely the right time of year for cozy, warm, plushy things!

Big hit for me was a remote page turner for my kindle. LINKI read a lot while riding on my recumbent bicycle, and hate leaning forward to turn the pages on my kindle. This thing is GENIUS!

Hit - this game Ransom Notes Game on AmazonSo funny...we played it multiple times on Christmas and it's laugh until you cry funny. Miss - Boxbollen - a miss because it never arrived. It shipped on 12/10. I need to call them today. Curious if any other peas ordered it and if they received and liked it.

We did generally well - but I accidentally bought my daughter's fiance a woman's shirt from Madewell. That was dumb. BUT, in my defense? It was in the men's section of the store!!!

All the gifts given seem to have been hits except for one for my cousin in law, which is to be expected. She is very difficult to shop for. I just got her a pretty new Starbucks ornament with a gift card. She seemed fine with it (she gets Starbucks everyday) but I know it wasn't very thoughtful or exciting, so I feel bad. No one had any suggestions for her, and she just doesn't really like anything or can buy what she wants. She never enjoys trips or experiences or dinner out, so I just ran out of things to get her. Usually I can find something, but this year I was stumped. I didn't really know what to get my mom, so I framed a bunch of pictures from our WDW trip along with other framed pictures of family members and she was very excited. She was busy arranging the shelf ones yesterday and debating where to hang up the WDW collage frame.
Everything I got I loved. My family is very thoughtful with gift giving. One of my favorites was a collection of Disney 33 LPs with books from my cousin. One was for Herbie the Love Bug which my cousin and I remember watching at the small theater by my Gramma's house. It seemed to play every summer when we were there, so that was especially thoughtful.

Now she's going to try to return it as nobody wants a mouldy product. lol

Hits - My sister bought me a necklace in remembrance of one of my best friends who was killed in a car accident 3 weeks ago. The front has her birth month flower engraved on it, and the back has my friend's first name. It was very unexpected & very moving. As expected, my little loved the big LEGO set & graphic novels he received. He'd never heard of a time-tracking bookmark before but is excited to use it once he gets back from his dad's in a few days. I think that my big liked the Dungeons & Dragons set we got them? My parents bought my partner a pasta-making tool (blade? add-on?) for the Kitchenaid that he was not expecting and was thrilled to receive.
Misses - My partner bought me a pair of slipper-shoes that were (fortunately!) too small and will need to be returned. As usual, my big received a bunch of clothes from my parents that they will never wear + a very "young" art kit when they neither draw nor are the demographic for the kit. My partner received some clothes as well, and he is just as sensitive to texture/fabric as my big is and will also never wear them.

Hit—We gifted Dad a chainsaw. It made him tear up. It’s smaller than what he owns, as the existing couple have become a bit much for him to handle. It was the biggest gift of the all.
Hit—Actually, for me (and I hope DS) the Longaberger basket found second hand in one of the local shops. I had looked at it during a previous visit. Last minute, I asked for the day off work for a Dr’s appt. DS and I decided to poke around the shops after breakfast. The basket was still there. So,I decided I did want it. At a different shop, DS picked up a gorgeous trinket box. Had he not purchased it, I would have gone back for it. Anyway, we were joking about the splurges and decided they would be our gift to each other.
The basket is from the year he was born. Long before I had interest. The memory of the time spent with him and how it all went down was the best part. I hope he will feel the same about the trinket box.

my dh just had surgery this week and is off his feet, so no real christmas shopping.. so he gave everyone tshirts he got in maui in nov.. I don't really like the one he got me and it is huge, but I will wear it cause he got it for me. he did better with shirts for the kids. I'm not sure he likes the very expensive wallet I got him.. it requires him to carry about 20 cards, not 40.. his current wallet is held together with duct tape.
