Delta and American are the better American carriers, although they're still cattle boats compared to airlines in other countries. I avoid Spirit and Frontier. United has improved, but it's still a distant third.
When you're making reservations, be sure to clear your cookies frequently for the best deal. I usually book with Expedia if I don't get a good flight through the airline's website, but I use Kayak and Hopper sometimes because they can cobble together a cheaper flight with better connections from several airlines.

Since I have 2 kids in Seattle now, I started flying Alaska and love them. Otherwise it would be United (Chicago hub) or Southwest IF they get their shit together again.

In one instance, they canceled our boarding passes while we were sitting at the gate waiting to board. United did this to DH in May when he was on a business trip. Gave him a boarding pass at the check-in desk, then Dh went straight to the gate for boarding. When he went to board the flight the boarding pass didn't work - 15 min. after United issued it to him. The gate agents and supervisor couldn't even find a record of his flight. Missed his flight, ended up spending an unplanned night in MEX and barely made his meeting. On the return trip, his ticket was fine but his 3 coworkers all went to check in and there was no record of their flights anywhere! That's just one of the screwups they've made with him this year and why he now flies Delta if it is an option. None of the US airlines seem immune to screw ups these days.

Ok, he has hella flight credits from changes through the year and i have like 70 worth so we're going to go with delta and hope for the best. I really wanted to do a nonstop to reduce the number of flights that could potentially be delayed or cancelled but it would end up costing more out of pocket.
Vegas isn't my choice, it's for a friend bday so the dates aren't able to be changed but the flight prices don't seem to be too awful right now. I think it's going to be delta out of richmond with a layover somewhere. Worst case scenario we'll spend some time in the lounge but i'm going to hope for the best.
I looked up the flights with southwest and they aren't even quoting prices for new tickets, i'm going to be proactive and cancel them. I'll deal with them once they get their shit together but I don't have the patience right now. What a crappy situation they're in.

I always fly Southwest and I love them. My flight on Tuesday 12/27/22 was cancelled of course - so I had to fly on American. I think that was my first time on American and it sucked. The employees were yelling at people who asked questions. I had to pay for my bags (never on SWA), and they didn't even serve a soft drink during the flight (always on SWA). I hope SWA gets their issues figured out soon!
