I wish people knew that the escrow portion of their mortgage is not only out of the control of your mortgage company but is incredibly likely to increase yearly over the life of your loan. Plan accoordingly I opted out of escrow payments on our current mortgage. . . Most mortgage lenders/servicing companies won’t let you opt out of escrow payments unless your mortgage is less than 80% of the appraised home value. We tried to opt out when we bought our house but they said no. My MIL is a large woman with mobility issues. When she falls, FIL needs help getting her up. They used to call one of their nearby kids for help. We were all unavailable once so they called 911 for help, which resulted in an ambulance bill. My BIL found out and told them to call 911 but to just ask for the fire department to come and do a “lift and assist.” This info has been very helpful to them.

I wish people knew that you can’t call on a Wednesday and ask for a complete custom detailed cake for Saturday. Not gonna happen. Of course now I’m weddings only so that’s helped with that! I also wish people would LISTEN to my answering machine message. It clearly states that I’m not providing baked goods outside of weddings. So leaving a message saying “I need a baby shower cake please call me” will not get you a return call. DH has this problem too. A few years ago we switched to having an auto attendant phone service. He was getting dozens of telemarketing calls a day which was problematic because he doesn’t like answering calls when he is with a client, and now it’s illegal to talk on the phone while driving unless it’s hands free which he can’t do because his work vehicle doesn’t have Bluetooth plus it’s rattly as all get out. The auto attendant tells people calling that they can set an appointment using the online self scheduler, how to request a quote online, or if they wish to contact him regarding advertising or any other business to business purpose they need to send an email outlining their request. The very last option is for people who for whatever reason can’t book online, they can leave a voicemail and he will call them back at the end of the business day. There is no option that will ring through to a human on purpose, to screen out all the telemarketers. Nine times out of ten, some idiot from Yelp or Consumer Checklist or Home Advisor will leave a voicemail telling him to call about advertising. Nope. If you can’t follow simple instructions, he’s not interested. At all.

That this is an international board with peas from all across the world.
There will be differing points of view as not everyone live in America and knows the American way of life.

I wish politics were not on NSBR! It’s all so negative. Or tell me the good things that people are doing for the country. I am not comfortable sharing my point of understanding because I would probably get bashed. I am all for a great conversation but with open minded people who can discuss both peoples thoughts. politics on NSBR have ruined it, IMO. Not for me. I like those discussions. Those threads are plainly marked and you don't have to open them or participate. I rarely open threads about other's kids and their school stuff and a few other topics because it does not interest me. Easy peasy.

I saw a similar YouTube video and was going to ask here how the Peas merge, because I heard mention of rolling truck blocks here before. 😂 We never leave a lane empty in So Cal. That would be unheard of. In fact, trucks are often the ones merging at the last minute here. Yesssssss. I work in Boston. If I was waiting for folks to merge in an orderly and mannerly fashion, I'd still be waiting to come home after work on June 7th, 2019.

I was going to post the same thing. So many things differ between countries, even between states. Laws, customs, demographics, politics, how/where goods are sold.

I wish people knew how to call 911. I wish people knew where they were when calling. Even if technology works-we still need to verify the location because sometimes (frequently) technology fails. I wish people understood that answering my questions is important ,and is not delaying any response. Once I have the location and the type of help you need (PD fire or ambulance) they are on the way. Your answers to the questions are helping to provide the best possible outcome for the person having the emergency, and sometimes even you as a caller. Sometimes we are able to give instructions on what to do while waiting for the responders. Sometimes the questioning seems “stupid”, but trust me, my 15 years of experience in my job tells me there may be a need for the question. We are well trained to forsee things you may not have thought of. It is ok to answer “I don’t know” if you don’t know. It’s not ok for me not to ask, in case you did know. The typical call takes less than 3 minutes, start to finish, if the caller is cooperative and lets me run through the questions. It takes lots longer if iI have to fight with you I came here to say this. I cannot tell you have many times in 22 years of taking 9-1-1 calls I have been called stupid (or much worse) for asking questions.

I wish people knew that the escrow portion of their mortgage is not only out of the control of your mortgage company but is incredibly likely to increase yearly over the life of your loan. Plan accoordingly I'm going to piggyback on this one because my job deals with property taxes. I wish people knew that it is their responsibility to pay their property taxes, not that of their mortgage company. They may have an escrow account and an arrangement in which the mortgage pays the annual tax bill but it is ultimately the responsibility of the property owner. If your mortgage company drops the ball, it's still up to you to pay it and you now have late fees. Being ignorant of how the tax system works does not excuse you from being subject to the rules of the system. As a Part B to the above, I wish people understood that taxes are not based on what you can afford. I cannot tell you how many times I hear people say "Well I can't afford that" when they get their tax bill and then proceed to look at me expectantly. While I empathize because no one likes paying taxes, your ability to afford your bill is completely out of my control. The revenue and taxation code does not care what you can and cannot afford. Do your homework, understand your obligations as a property owner, and stop yelling at your local assessor's office because you made a poor financial decision. Thank you I just went to check and my town has an online place where I can check if it’s been paid. I had been keeping tabs on my insurance ( mostly because they screwed that up at purchase ) but hadn’t thought to verify that the taxes were paid

Failure only looks like failure if you quit when you have a fail. If you keep going after a failure it either gets forgotten or only looks like a momentary glitch in the road to a success. You only quit when you fail, because you have the wrong mindset.

I wish more people knew that epilepsy is not contagious. I’ve lost a lot of friends because they were afraid their children would catch epilepsy from me. Yes, it’s as dumb as it sounds.
I also wish Americans knew that when Australians more to America we already speak English, proper English actually. I can’t tell you how many times I’ve been asked how long did it take me to learn English when I moved to America!!

A woman who has recently arrived in the USA from New Zealand asked some logistical questions about enrolling her kids in school. Someone replied that first they would have to take the language assessment to see what ELL (English Language Learner) services they would require. omg. She replied that they did speak English in New Zealand. The guy actually came back to argue with her!

I wish people knew that it is bad hockey etiquette to move around when the puck is in play. You can wait until the whistle blows to return to your seat after you visited the concessions or restroom. Wait until the whistle blows to leave your seat.

I wish everyone knew that school is not simply a free babysitting service ... If your child is sick, keep them home! I am so tired of having coughing, sneezing, sniffly, miserable students in my classes! They touch surfaces and we are all at risk. I teach middle school ... these kids are old enough to stay home alone I would be throwing up with the flu and my mother would send me to school. She was the dumbest scientist I have ever met. School was a totally babysitting service to her.

One reason why I'm thankful to be Canadian! Insert British 😊 l'm in a position where I hear the stories of patients needing specialized treatments unavailable in Canada, or basic orthopeadic care denied to elderly patients in the UK because, well, the patient is old. I'm all for universal healthcare, I just wish it was possible to have the best and brightest in their fields available to EVERYONE!

I wish people knew that the LEFT LANE IS FOR PASSING. It would solve so many traffic backups if people would get out of the left lane. I'll agree with the zipper as well- we have a spot where everyone should zipper but the most of the people opt to get in the right lane miles ahead of time and the road rage is strong when the other sensible people go to zipper in.
And also- since I live in the armpit of the US (Florida), if you turn right on to a busy street, the cars already on that street shouldn't have to step on the brakes for you. You're supposed to wait for the traffic to pass. THEY have the right of way. If that person cruising in the left lane decided to move into the right while you are pulling out at 20mph, you are at fault. Same if you are making a U-turn. People down here do not understand how any of this works. Unfortunately the police do not show up for anything unless there is an accident (which we have many) and so many motorcyclists are killed down here. Our neighbors son was one at 17. I risk life and limb everyday just driving to and from work- there cannot be another place where the drivers are THIS bad. And if there is please let me know so I can avoid that place.
