I took a big bag of clothes to our church. Found some books to donate to our neighborhood library. Packed away all of my summer clothes and got out my winter stuff. Going back into the abyss that I call a closet and purge some more stuff.
I like threads like this to get me motivated.

Have 3 things going out the door tomorrow via eBay. I was about to unlist one and donate it so glad it's gone. It's a tie.

I took 4 small boxes of Christmas decor and a bag of clothes to Goodwill yesterday. I can't stand to see it in the garage, once I decide to let it go. I just want it gone!

As soon as a box is full it gets put in the car so we can drop it off the next time we’re in the area. oh I wish we could do that but DH tends to wait until we have a full car load (and we have a Ford Flex - lots of space) to drop off donations. I probably have 9 or 10 paper ream boxes in my garage waiting... I did put two shirts in today - I bought three a while back thinking I was getting 3 short sleeve in different colours and ended up with 2 longsleeved (the two I didn't unfold and try on). It's finally cool enough to wear long sleeves occasionally - and I HATE them - they aren't as long as I prefer and they have a wierd curved hem. So instead of holding onto them because they were brand new, I just added to the donation bin...I'm not going to wear them so why keep them? to remind myself they were a shopping mistake?

This is a good idea for me to do today. There’s finally a small break in the action where I don’t have a hundred things pulling me in different directions all at once. Maybe dropping off the two big boxes of stuff I want to get rid of at Salvation Army would be something I could check off my to do list, and I could drop off the cookies my brother wanted too since I could possibly swing past his place on the way home.

Made some progress today unexpectedly. After doing my laundry I went to put some long sleeve shirts away and there was no room on the shelf. Since 1/4 of that shelf is taken up with pajamas, I looked to where I could move them on another shelf and saw a very dusty pile of pants that hasn’t seen the light of day since probably 2008. I pulled all that stuff down and went through it. The really dusty pairs went into the laundry (and will get donated once they’re clean) and the rest I sorted by size. Anything size 10 and under is getting donated because I don’t think I’m going to see that size again in my lifetime (after I see if any of them fit DD, mostly just to determine what size she actually is, since some of them aren’t exactly in style anymore). Anything size 12 I was keeping since I’m able to wear those.
Then I thought I’d put the ones I’m keeping in the dresser. Yeah, NO, there were three drawers FULL of pants and shorts that either won’t fit, had worn out elastic so are trash, or they might fit but I’d just forgotten about them. Since I didn’t have anything pressing on the to do list, I pulled every single thing out of those drawers and was ruthless. I condensed the shorts and capris down to one drawer, put the pants that still fit in another, and took out about 15 pairs of perfectly good socks that I just don’t like out of a third and put them in DD’s dresser since she decided she does like that kind (which is a bonus win because she needed some new socks and now I don’t have to buy her any).
So once she has a chance to try on those pants, anything she doesn’t want can go straight into the donation boxes (one for winter stuff that can go now and one for spring/summer stuff that can go in March/April). There are a couple other drawers that need to be gone through and purged but I think that can wait until next week when I don’t have as much Christmas stuff to deal with.

It did! I haven’t been using that dresser for a while because DH had a folding table in front of it for a few months while he was going through his clothes in the closet. Then once he was done, we had a bunch of DD’s bedroom furniture in our room while we were replacing her flooring so it continued to be blocked for another few months. The other drawers in that dresser haven’t been even looked in for close to a year, so it’s a pretty safe assumption that almost everything in them (other than my cozy winter socks) could disappear and I’d likely never even miss any of it.

My Dad bid on and won an abandoned storage unit. My first thought was WTF. He has 48 hours to get everything out and cleaned. He has already brought one load home. Going to get 2 to 3 tomorrow.
He has already started several piles. (eBay, flea market, donate, scrapyard, trash bin, free dumpsters in spring, etc). idk how much I will help since it's dusty and that seems to get asthma going and turns into pneumonia. If I do I need to wear multiple masks.
Before this I had been putting stuff in boxes for GW so we will probably be hauling soon after Christmas. I have an appointment on Dec. 29 so I may do a large drop off then. They will likely be overwhelmed with donations.

Tell me it will be okay. I used to rubber stamp. I had thousands of stamps at one time. Now, I am down to about 4 banker boxes of stamps (wood mounted) that are stored in the garage. They’ve been in the boxes for a couple of years. I haven’t looked in them, I haven’t missed them. But, I know they are my “favorites”. I feel like it is time to let them go, but … did I mention they are my “favorites”. Aargh. And I don’t know where to take them. Does anyone still rubber stamp?? They are too heavy to mail away to anyone.

They are too heavy to mail away to anyone. people do - you could try selling them on FB marketplace or donate them. DH picked me up a bunch of Stamping Up stamps earlier this year for $5 a set so they don't sell for much, I don't think. (((Hugs))) It's hard to realise that you're done with a hobby you once loved.

You haven't even looked at them in a couple of years. There is your answer, time for them to go. Being stored in the garage, are they even still in good condition? It is hard to let our favorites go, but are they really still our favorites if we never use them, or even look at them?

Try calling nursing homes to donate stamps. Maybe add some card stock from Michael’s. I took some for a friend to a nursing home here. They make cards with their residents

I also think it’s time to let them go to a home that will appreciate them. (Assuming they’re still in good shape, I’d check them due to the temperature fluctuations). Just imagine nursing home residents, children at a school, group home or a women’s shelter, or even someone at Goodwill who is excited about stamping coming across that haul. Now imagine the extra space in your garage and more importantly, the weight off your shoulders from letting them go. eta: Or have someone who would be a good judge of condition check them for you. It’ll be easier to part with them if you don’t touch them or even look at them. That’s why it can be so helpful to have a friend help you declutter, they can hold up the item and physically trash it or put it in the donation box.

When I am considering parting with something I ask myself “does it give me joy”. Sometimes,, if I sell items the money goes to charity (and I let people know this). One of the charities has a program (brown bagging for lunches) that has someone matching every dollar you donate (up to a pre-determined amount)

Depending on what they are, a school, daycare or scout troop might want them, or a nursing home would probably love getting them. Sometimes people peel the dies off of the wood mounts and use them with acrylic mounts, that would make them easier and cheaper to mail. I still have a lot of stamps but quite a while ago I switched to only buying clear stamps because they take up so much less room to store.

Depending on what they are, a school, daycare or scout troop might want them, or a nursing home would probably love getting them. I have no desire to stamp anymore, not even a quick birthday card. I will check them, but I assume they are still in good shape because our temperature doesn't fluctuate too much here. Summers may get hot for a couple of weeks, but we are talking high 80's, while winters get down into the 40's at night. Vulcanized rubber is pretty hardy. So, I don't really know if schools or nursing homes can use them. I don't know if you remember or know Stampscapes, but I kept all those. Those are stamps to make landscapes. www.stampscapes.com/home.html. I kept a lot of Asian stamps. I have a bunch of stamps from Stampa Barbara. Loved those stamps. They always had a full-page ad on the back of Rubber Stamp Madness, and they had a store local to where I used to live. And then I have Kliban cat stamps and Little Brownies stamps. Add to those, I kept a lot of background stamps from Judi-kins. Not really a lot of stamps to make generic cards. I was talking to SO tonight, and we are cleaning the garage and throwing out a lot of stuff. We actually have empty shelves. He said to keep them if I want to. I have to decide what to do. My head says "out", but my heart says "keep". Sigh! Why am I so sentimental about this. LOL!

I dropped off a couple of bags of donations today. I've been slowly adding things as I come across them and finally today I was going past one of the op shops when they were open and could take donations.

Contact at school was finally at poetry night and guess what? Didn't have the craft stuff for her. She said the art teachers still want it so we will figure it out on how to get it. I told her I have been adding stuff to it.

The stamps you kept would very likely sell pretty well on eBay or Etsy, especially some of the more rare ones from Stampabarbara and the Brownies. It would be worth poking around a little to see what some of the stamps you have are worth.

Took a load to GW. worker didn't seem too pleased. The back room looked like like a store exploded in it. Had someone pull up behind me too.
Came home and have 2 boxes to go to GW tomorrow, 2 boxes for trash, 2 boxes to list.
