Remember if you qualify for certain programs.- Medicaid, EBT, Snap, Wic, Tanf and Liheap, you can get a reduced rate of 6.99 a month. I have to remember to send my kids info in, so we can do it that way.

I forgot how much stuff I send my parents. My mom knows to call me and I'll place the order for delivery to her. She lives 2 hours away from me. She is 85 and can't get out for every little thing, plus any large stores are 45 minutes away from her.

I will re-up and I just signed up for the card which gives 5% back. So $139 is 5% of X$, multiply both by 100 and divide, = 13900/5 = $2780. If I spend $232 per month I cover the cost.
I am just tired of driving 20 miles (round trip) to go to the store and not get what I really should have got. If Amazon doesn't have it, I don't have waste time and gas to find out.
The big advantage is I can shop for something right now, before my forgetter kicks in.

We watch prime video maybe once a month? We both buy stuff regularly, mostly small stuff. I rarely use anything else on it but having the free shipping regardless of what we buy is worth it. Granted, I tend to add multiple things to my cart until I have a few things that will ship together. DH will buy just one thing, no matter how small it is.
Being able to send stuff directly to my kids is nice.

If I buy a shirt, I have to complete the sale in order to buy a different shirt, and they never show up on the same day. If you do use the basket you must not be getting the order very soon.

We just had this debate 2 weeks ago (my husband and I) when our membership was due to renew, and we kept it. I really do a lot of small purchases, when I think of things randomly. Earlier today, I ordered a pack of refills for my pen...$2.18 with tax, free ship, and I will have them tomorrow. If I went to Target for that, I'd end up picking up all kinds of other random stuff, plus treating myself to coffee, plus losing an hour or so of time that I could spend on something else. And we do watch Prime video.

It is worth it for us, because it saves us so much time on random errands. We also stream a lot and I usually pick up the Kindle First books.
In about 18 months we will have kids in college for YEARS so I don't see us giving it up anytime soon.

We ordered a comforter set for younger DD from Walmart and it took 8 days to arrive - except they had shipped us completely the wrong item. Had to pack it up and ship it back to them (and have them receive it) before they would send an exchange - and we’re still waiting on that. Compare to Amazon which usually has stuff here same day or next day - two days at most - and I can walk into Kohls with returns/exchanges, no lines and no waiting, and have them credited back to my account immediately and new item on the way. Love my Prime. You want me to pay $11/mo for all that plus get the movies and music and books? Take my money. Yes Amazon Return at Kohls is great. They start processing a refund the moment the item is scanned. All that plus every time I drop off an Amazon return at Kohl’s they give me a coupon for $5 in Kohl’s Cash that I can use immediately. Bonus! We’ll keep our Prime membership because DH uses it A LOT for work. We absolutely get our money’s worth just from the free shipping. Plus because we’re Prime members we get free shipping on Woot.com orders too.

That way later when I do need it or want it I can go through the list and order it from there and know I’m getting the right thing.

Nope. We had Amazon student and when it came up for renewal I suspended it. We don’t watch the shows or use the books or music or pictures or any other services and there is no whole paycheck here for food so not worth it.
Nothing is here in 2 days and rarely do we even get it in a week! We live 45 min from a distribution center.
When I’m ordering gifts for people, they’re generally over $25 so free shipping anyway.
For us, I can get pick ups in 2 hours at target and Walmart and pretty much any other store and we’re in town every other day so I get stuff much faster than I would with Amazon.
We do keep a running cart and just add as we find things we need and can’t get anywhere else. When we reach the shipping threshold, we go thru and see what we need or don’t need and then order.

I ordered several things on December 30. They are set for delivery next Monday... January 9. This is ridiculous!

I pay for my MIL to have it because she lives in a rural area and is at the point in her life when a day full of errands takes it out of her, so this is a small thing to make her life easier. If only ANY grocery service delivered to her area. She's not one for meal kits, but I keep thinking it would make her life that much easier.

If only ANY grocery service delivered to her area. I live in a 'no delivery' area. But the local grocery store in the really small town will deliver. It is $10, and I have never used it - but for someone elderly, it would be great. And they are super nice and would bring it inside and have a short visit ... does she have any small town in her area? It's worth asking them.

The nearest small towns have gas stations that sell milk & bread, but there's no full service grocer. MIL still insists on being pretty independent, but I've been there when we've had the big shop and I'm tired. She is totally whipped. She's a go getter though. I hope to be as active as she is when I'm that age.

Yes - Between free shipping (even if it's not as fast as it used to be) and streaming movies / shows - it's worth it for me.

I canceled last month. It was nice during the pandemic but it isn't that hard to get to $25 especially if you keep a list of routine things you can throw into an order. You just don't get things quite as quickly.
I have never been impressed with their TV and movie selection. Almost everything is really old. We watch Mrs. Maisel and will subscribe for a month when the final season ever comes out.

We will keep it. It’s a 20 mile trip one way to the closest store and even then there’s stuff that they just don’t carry or are frequently out of stock. Even with the slower shipping it’s worth it for us and certainly less hassle for me than trying to stop at the store either during my lunch break or after work.

Worth it for me. "Town" is a 60 mile round trip. and finding anything I need and having it shipped to is so much better than running around trying to find what I need. Even when I do make the 60 mile round trip, I order online and do pick up for groceries, Joanns, Michaels, home depot, etc. I just hate going in stores anymore, and I used to be one who LOVED to go shopping. I do use the photo storage, but have never even watched anything on Amazon prime. Maybe I should start a thread on suggestions on what to watch on there.

So, Amazon Prime is going up another $20 this year. Is it worth it to keep paying for these hikes? I've been finding other places to get products and I'm seriously thinking of dropping Amazon Prime before my account renews in 10 days.
What are your thoughts?
There's no benefit to renewing now vs. canceling and starting up again later. I'd cancel and see if you miss it. If so, start up again. I canceled mine for a couple of years and didn't miss it, especially as I was spending 5 months at a location that didn't get prime shipping. We don't watch Prime. We don't store our photos on Amazon. They have things I use regularly for competitive prices so I can easily meet the free shipping minimum by adding those to my order and on the very rare occasion I need something fast, I'll just ask a friend with Prime to order it and have it sent to me.

I let mine renew and was surprised to see on my credit card statement that I was actually charged $149.00. Dug around in my Amazon account and found that $10 of it was tax, so I guess my state charges sales tax on the amount you pay for Prime? Makes it even less appealing.

Dug around in my Amazon account and found that $10 of it was tax, so I guess my state charges sales tax on the amount you pay for Prime? Makes it even less appealing. After looking at all the responses, I decided to let it renew. I appreciate everyone's input.
However, the charge to my bank account was $149 and some change. That was not what I was expecting and did the math. I was charged the 7.5 percent sales tax I would pay on goods locally. For Prime. A service "perk," not goods.
Tax "laws" are beginning to irritate me. Just last week, a place I order from fairly regularly (which charges the 7.5 percent sales tax on goods, as expected the past few years) is now also charging 7.5 percent sales tax on shipping costs. I looked it up, and it doesn't seem they should be doing that, but they argued with me it was my state's doing. So, I'm checking out every shipping cost and every order I make everywhere. So far, just the one place, but now...
I cannot afford to pay taxes on shipping domestically within my own country. "Convenience" is no longer convenience, so I guess I'm going to have to start making more trips out vs ordering and delivery. It's a damned if you do and damned if you don't situation now, but at my age and fixed pension, now I have to pull the strings even tighter, and hope they don't all break.
