So, Amazon Prime is going up another $20 this year. Is it worth it to keep paying for these hikes? I've been finding other places to get products and I'm seriously thinking of dropping Amazon Prime before my account renews in 10 days.
What are your thoughts?

Ugh, that is a big increase. I do use it a lot, so I'll pay the fee.
The convenience of not having to run to multiple stores for random things like specialty light bulbs, filters for the refrigerator, etc that maybe my hardware store will have, but maybe I have to try Walmart is a big part of it for me.
Time is really valuable to me, so I love Amazon.

Nope. I used it for the shipping, which now can take up to a week.

I figure I saved that much shipping gifts direct at Xmas alone. No family close so shipping everything would have been expensive!

Unfortunately yes it’s worth it for us. We order quite a bit, use Amazon prime and also Amazon photo for storage.

To me, it is worth it for now. I use the free 2 day shipping and we watch Amazon Prime streaming.

Prime actually increased to $139 in February 2022 for new members, March for existing ones though there was a trick to extending the $119 price for a year that I didn’t know about. The Motley Fool has some info to help decide if it’s worth it or not. www.fool.com/the-ascent/personal-finance/articles/should-you-join-amazon-prime-in-2023/(Double posted so deleted one.)

It is for me. We watch prime quite a bit, and ordering from Amazon often means free, same-day delivery where I live.

It was never worth it for me. It’s too easy to justify buying stuff when it ships for free. I have Netflix and that provides enough TV content.

That comes out to not quite $12/month so yes I'll definitely keep it. As others have said, I love being able to order random things when I think of them that otherwise I'd have to drive all over creation looking for. For example, just recently I ordered a shower curtain, glass Pyrex pie plates, Urvashi Pitre's new Instant Pot cookbook, coffee pods that I have on automatic re-order for ds's partner...etc. But, I didn't order them all at once so nothing would have qualified for free shipping if I didn't have Prime. And just think of how many different stores I would have had to drive to for those items.
Not to mention the Prime Video options which we use a lot.
Also, I have their credit card so I get rebates on everything I buy (not just through Amazon, but everywhere that I use a credit card -- which is pretty much everywhere these days). I bought most of my Christmas gifts using those rebates.

I've never subscribed to Prime and don't plan to. Canadian Amazon simply doesn't have enough good deals on things I can't buy elsewhere to justify its cost. When there are things I can only get there, I just wait until I have enough to qualify for regular Free Shipping.

Yes.
I use it on the TV and PC for TV apps like PBS, Discovery Plus, and Paramount Plus so dh, dd, ds, and I can watch specific shows. And ds loves Blippi, Thomas and SpongeBob that I can easily access for him to watch.
Dd, ds, and I use Amazon Music.
And we get items on there we can't find in other stores. Not as often but free shipping is still worth it especially with the rise in shipping costs.
$20 would be 2-3 items bought elsewhere online with s/h costs.

Also we have a handful of warehouses newr us so things arrive quickly most of the time. Typically same to next day.
I will say it was totally worth it when ds was at Children's and his GI conditions were flairing up and I needed chux pads for his bed. Ordered at the hospital at like 10pm and by 8am they were at our home, so before we got there ourselves.
This happened last month as well with another items we needed that was OOS elsewhere and it came by 6am (5:52am).

Yes. I have probably never actually benefited monetarily (I.e use all the perks or save a lot on shipping) from having prime but it was still worth it to me. The ease of ordering items as I need them/think about them is the main reason.
My Costco membership is probably the same type of deal. However, I am sure I waste more than that on other thing that I use (or need) less, so at this time it is still worth it to me.

Yesterday our fridge filter needed to be replaced. It was $20 more at best buy and that was my only local option. I bought a ton of stuff for Christmas and when it was not a hit, returns we super easy. I also stream amazon prime shows and I use their photo storage.

I haven't had 2 day shipping in a couple years - before COVID, so that can't be the excuse. It takes a week or longer sometimes. Never ever in two days.
But yet, I can order from Walmart and Target (don't have a membership, but do have a Target credit card) and that stuff is always here in one or two days. Ships free if I order over $35 from WM - Target ships free because of the credit card. So ... eh... Amazon kind of frustrates me with that. I am making more of an effort to not buy from Amazon.
If it wasn't for Prime and the free Kindle book every month - I would dump it.

Wasn't picked up until Dec 22. Was supposed to be Dec 24. Nope. Got here Dec 29. 😐 Not the first time it has taken almost an entire month to get an item, even during non holiday shipping times. Oh and the kicker? Guaranteed by Dec 10. Ha. Ha ha ha ha ha.

We ordered a comforter set for younger DD from Walmart and it took 8 days to arrive - except they had shipped us completely the wrong item. Had to pack it up and ship it back to them (and have them receive it) before they would send an exchange - and we’re still waiting on that. Compare to Amazon which usually has stuff here same day or next day - two days at most - and I can walk into Kohls with returns/exchanges, no lines and no waiting, and have them credited back to my account immediately and new item on the way. Love my Prime. You want me to pay $11/mo for all that plus get the movies and music and books? Take my money.

They start processing a refund the moment the item is scanned.

I guess it might be worth it if you use it for other stuff, like tv, but it’s not worth it for shipping.
Everything sold/distributed by Amazon is free shipping at $25 without prime. That’s a really low threshold. I still get all my Amazon stuff within a few days just selecting the free shipping.
And whether you have prime or not doesn’t affect the free returns. I don’t have prime and can still walk into kohl’s or ups store for free instant returns without having to print anything or pack anything.

I have a new warehouse that is within three miles of my house and I don't get same day delivery, and rarely 2-day. There's another warehouse 3 hours away. It's very frustrating. Still, I'll keep Prime. My daughter and I share an account. We both order a lot and stream video.

Yes.
1. Free shipping, and since I don’t usually need it in 2 days, I pick the no-rush rewards when possible. I use those primarily for free Kindle books or software. Last year I earned over $75 in no-rush rewards, which paid for my antivirus software and several books. 2. Generous return policy, and returns are easy. 3. Photo storage. I have thousands of photos backed up through Prime photo. 4. Prime video/TV. I don’t watch a lot on Prime, but my kids do. 5. Prime Days/daily lightning deals/Prime Outlet. I do a lot of my holiday shopping through these kinds of sales, and I also keep a list of things I want so I can watch for deals. 6. I know you can get free shipping without Prime, but the vast majority of my orders are under $25.

Ancestry.com costs more than that annually. Shipping costs are so high, and the convenience is worth it. My mom was out of blood sugar test strips and I ordered them and had them sent to her house. She wanted certain pants for my brother for Christmas and the store she always gets them from stopped carrying them. I ordered them on Amazon.
Worth every penny.

We will definitely pay the increase. In a major city so most orders are here in 1-2 days, with some things arriving same day. It would cost me more than that $20 price increase in gas to drive all over town looking for items, only to find they are out of stock/don't carry. We also watch Amazon Prime streaming.

Something that you all will post about here that might be a great deal at $20 in the US will be $80 on amazon.ca.
I've cut back on using amazon a lot. Ours just renewed a month or so ago, but I don't think we'll renew next year. We don't really save anything.
