I saw on TikTok a theory that the Republicans will nominate and vote trump in as speaker of the house tomorrow, poetic justice for 1/6 2 years ago. I got chills thinking about that. Apparently you don't have to be a member of Congress to be nominated or to be speaker. I don't think that would happen, but, also, zero chance he is leaving the Florida compound to come hang out in DC without the ceremonial trappings of being president, I think. plus, he'd actually have to show up for work..and actually work. Naw, I don't see it happening either.

OMG! WTF! I even more so hate Bo Bo. How can a person who could not pass a GED 3 times and after the 4th she was given a pass. She and Gaetz are holding up the House of Reps. Why? So they can disrupt the Repubs even more after they finally get the House up and running. It makes no sense.

Based on the Present votes, it looks like McCarthy will win on the 15th ballot.
Then they'll get to do this all over again with the Rules package.

Celebration by finally selecting a SOH after this fiasco will be disgusting. I hope the media does not show a celebration.

For some reason just rubs me the wrong way of the laughing and why family/kids are allowed in the chamber. What would happen if there was another attack/insurrection on the capitol? I think America is naive.

Friday the thirteenth vote!! The only reason I’m thankful they kept going, and I’m not even superstitious. Or am I? Hmmm… I’m disappointed that he got it - in large part because of the cocky move of filling that room with his crap. Such a douche to the core, that one - in every way.

So it begins......
Did everyone notice the seat mates, Gaetz and Santos. Was Santos chewing his cud or gum, with his mouth open?!?!

I was reading about how Republicans need to appeal to young voters, and I suppose this explains their recent attacks on higher education. I don’t think that atempts to indoctrinate them will ultimately work in a big way. Young voters care about climate and their rights. They see the attitude of the GOP on guns. They have been watching the shitshow happening in the House. It will be interesting to see if there is GOP outreach to the young. It does make me wonder what in the hell conservatives are thinking. Hopefully this article will open. www.nytimes.com/2023/01/06/us/politics/republicans-young-voters.html?smid=nytcore-ios-share&referringSource=articleShare

If the GOP wants to bitch about higher education SO MUCH, what exactly are the alternatives they are promoting now that they’ve destroyed unions & practically legislated manufacturing jobs over seas. Yeah, they gave corporations BIG tax breaks for bringing manufacturing back to the US but with automations. That creates so few jobs that it’s highly competetive to get them & quite a few of those jobs will need a college degree in programming, engineering, or robotics. The GOP needs to provide/think of/come up with alternative paths instead of just bitching and destroying things. I know, I’d have better chances asking Santa clause, but Santa clause isn’t digging higher education

I know, I’d have better chances asking Santa clause, but Santa clause isn’t digging higher education I would expect (hope?) that they'd plan either state-run technical schools or corporate apprenticeships for certain jobs. It's true enough that you don't need a liberal arts education to code, engineer, practice medicine, or do a lot of things. As a country, we used to believe that comprehensive education made better citizens, but with the movement over the past few decades to see college as little more than job training, I'd bet that most Americans - even most Democrats - don't see much value in comprehensive education any more. I don't agree with that stance and I'm not defending it, but that's what I would predict will happen in this brave new world the GOP wants to bring in.

I guess you all missed what DeSantis is doing in Florida. He has already attacked the public schools K-12. Now to the colleges.. DeSantis seeks conservative overhaul at Florida liberal-arts college2023/01/06 MIAMI — Gov. Ron DeSantis appointed a group of hard-line conservative loyalists Friday into leadership positions at the New College of Florida, a move that comes as the Republican governor plots a remake of the state’s higher education system. Several of the appointees are vocal opponents of gender- and race-related education issues that have fueled the right’s culture wars in schools. They were picked as DeSantis, who is eyeing a potential 2024 White House run, vows to fight “philosophical lunacy” in the schools. The new appointees will now help oversee the Sarasota college, which has a reputation for being one of the most progressive higher-education institutions in the state. Of the six appointed by DeSantis, the marquee names are Christopher Rufo, a conservative activist who helped turn critical race theory into a conservative rallying cry, and Matthew Spalding, a government professor at Hillsdale College, a conservative Christian college in Michigan. *** 'Recapturing higher education’As DeSantis kicked off his second term in office on Tuesday, he made clear that he plans to focus on reshaping the state’s higher education. In particular, he said, he wants to make sure his administration eradicates “trendy ideologies” from the classroom. We must ensure that our institutions of higher learning are focused on academic excellence and the pursuit of truth, not the imposition of trendy ideology,” DeSantis said during his inaugural speech at the steps of the historic Florida Capitol in Tallahassee. nordot.app/984222433589772288

My guess after watching the events that unfolded last night on the House Floor this bird will prove to be smarter then the current Speaker of The House and members of his delegation. Buckle up.

Well, I hope they had fun making a mockery of America for the whole world to witness, again. The new SOH (Son of Ho, since he kisses TFG's butt) has no intelligence, moral courage, or spine. This is going to be some rough sledding.

I’m worried about the debt ceiling in September. I hope everyone that may be effected can start putting a bit away in case things are shut down for a while and don’t get their military or social security payments.if course this effects those most at risk. At least there is more warning than normal. It doesn’t seem to make the news until the last minute usually. Worst case if it doesn’t happen is they have more in savings but I think most have been pretty clear they won’t vote to raise it next time. They are mad they didn’t get to shut it down now.

I think they will be addressing the debt ceiling soon. The fiscal budget is up at the end of September. The federal fiscal year runs Oct 1- Sept 30.

If you’re on disability you are not allowed to have savings…you cannot have more resources than $2000 in the bank or $3000 for 2 people. So exactly how are people on SSDI supposed to save money no matter how long they have to do so? ‘Resources’ include anything ‘given’ to you by others ( if they can find it or trace it ) it’s a disgusting system meant to keep a person down.

I didn’t even think of that. I can’t imagine being so vulnerable and not being able to plan. Maybe tuck some cash away but that’s scary to. I think this every time this is brought up that they can’t have money in savings beyond 2-3k. I agree the system needs to change. 2-3k really doesn’t go very far these days not that it would be easy to save up that much while being in a limited income to begin with. Hugs to those in this situation.
