Parts of Texas are getting shut down because of ice/road conditions. It looks like the DFW area is going to get hit with ice conditions while my area is just cold.
DFW Peas -- are you prepared for the ice?

I'm on the west side of Ft Worth and work as a nanny. My nanny mom sent me home early today (1 PM) because the sleet was starting. The drive home was a little slick, but I arrived safely.
The weather report is that we're to get additional ice between now (Monday evening) and Wednesday morning. How are things in your corner of the metroplex?
Because of Snowmagedon a couple of years ago, I promised myself that I'd never be in that position again and have been preparing for another ice event. I have food, water, firewood, necessary medicine, etc. be self-sufficient for about a week. I hope we don't have another power grid failure, but I'm prepared.

Im not in the metroplex -- I am at the very tip top of Texas in Amarillo. We had a high today of 15 degrees, but there's no moisture in my area so no snow, ice or sleet. My area is pretty used to the cold temperatures so it was just a normal day for us. My sister called that lives outside of Tyler & she was saying they cut school short today and have already canceled for tomorrow in preparation for the ice there.

So far so good. We live on the same grid as a major hospital and a fire department so it is unlikely that we will lose power (haven't in the last two nasty storms). Neither the district I work for or the one my kids are in did early release today. It was such a mess getting my kids home. I ended up leaving work early because it was raining ice and there were a ton of accidents on the way home. I'm pretty frustrated that neither district did early release because it was treacherous on the roads at school dismissal. Both districts are cancelled tomorrow. Thanks for checking in with all of us. Stay warm!

DH and I both WFH today and will Tues and Wed.
Lots of ice, slick roads and cold.
We won’t leave the house for at least a couple days.

Be safe everyone! I wonder where the ice is stopping as the weather system moves south. No wintry precipitation or even a freeze predicted for Houston.

Sorry you are all dealing with ice and cold. We were 55° today here in NJ. We are approaching almost a year since measurable snow.. I forget the exact number.

I am in a suburb on the north side of Dallas. From what the 6 PM news showed, the worst of the sleet seemed to stop over in Fort Worth. We have some, but not enough to cover the grass. I did my volunteer job and the director closed the office and sent everyone home at 2 PM. Some of the normal Monday volunteers did not come in. DH and I are stocked up with groceries etc and plan to stay home until Wednesday afternoon when the temperatures are supposed to creep up over freezing.
ETA:DH had an appointment to be at hospital for a cat scan on Tuesday morning at 6:30 AM. I was able to get it moved to Friday so we have no reason to be on the streets until this is over. Only reason we will have for going out is to fill the bird feeders.

I’m just south of DFW. I’ve got everything that I need for the next few days. Keeping my phone and iPad charged, just in case.
Thank you, mom, for checking on your fellow Texan peas. ❤️

It’s nasty here in N Ft. Worth. DH started to go into work, and turned around after slipping trying to get on the HWY. He drives HWY most of the way in, most of the time. After he got home, the drizzle stopped, and things got a little better. At 11:15, we went to lunch. It started sleeting just as we left at 11:45. It sleeted off and on all day. The traffic map looked like a war zone! Tomorrow will just be nasty. Conditions will probably not be better until at least mid afternoon on Wednesday. This is all ice. Anything still on the ground tonight (all of it) will refreeze overnight, and more is expected through Wednesday afternoon.

My son's school did an early release day which I was thankful for because it started sleeting just as he was almost home (he is 17 so was driving) and that continued for a while on and off. I think the streets are mostly wet right now, but bridges and overpasses will definitely by icing up. Its about 28 right now just west of DFW airport - so even tho snowmaggedon wrecked our home with flooding from a broken pipe, it will not get nearly as cold this time so I think we should be ok. School is out tomorrow and not sure what will happen Wednesday. My husband ran to the grocery store this afternoon for milk and he said it looked like you would expect before the Super Bowl - lots of people stocking up on things.
I work from home part time, so was able to do my usual thing and then spent the rest of the day curled up with a book. Hopefully the precipitation is limited tonight for those who have to get on the road tomorrow.

My daughter lives an hour NE of Dallas/Ft. Worth, and she said the roads there are a mess. Accidents everywhere. She will probably WFH tomorrow. She's hoping the power does not go out.
Stay safe everyone!

We’re north of Ft. Worth. This morning before it started, I made a quick run to the pharmacy for DH’s medications, since it looks like we’ll have icy roads for a few days. We canceled DH’s appointment that would have been this afternoon. I’m hoping we won’t lose power. So far we are doing fine.
During the really bad snowstorm that was so devastating a couple of years ago, someone mentioned a tip to help stay warm if you lose power: set up a pop up tent on a double or larger bed. Sleep inside the tent in blankets or sleeping bag. It will be warmer than just sleeping on your bed as normal. I haven’t tried it, but a couple of families who did it said it really was warmer. It might at least be a novelty for kids if you have them.
Edited to add: Wednesday morning looks like it is bringing more freezing rain, continuing into Thursday morning, then the weather should warm up late Thursday morning and will probably melt everything.

I'm close to the airport and we didn't get much of anything yesterday. Our little town seems to be in a bubble and we usually miss the bad stuff but I just heard freezing rain outside just now. It's supposed to get worse this afternoon. I have to take my parents to a dr appointment later today so I'm hoping the roads will be clearer by then.

We’ve already had a bit of sleet this morning, and are expecting more.
Most stores/restaurants around here are closed…except for the gym, of course. 🤦🏻♀️

I live in Granbury just southwest of Fort Worth and it's been sleeting here like crazy since around 7 AM. We even got some thunder sleet which was weird! I'm working from home today as I commute to the Fort Worth area and it's about an hour's drive. I'm not getting out in this!

Austin here - everything is closed today, and they've upped the prediction to as much as 3/4 of an inch of ice accumulation through Thursday morning, which is way worse than they were originally saying. I suspect schools are also going to be closed tomorrow and a late start on Thursday. Pray for me...although my high schooler is off of school, my middle schooler does online school through the Houston school district, so he still has to do school. Yeah, this is fun with a kid who already bears grudges and has ODD!

Checking in - Amarillo got snow last night and it’s been snowing at my house off and on all morning. I didn’t think we were supposed to get any snow so I was surprised! The temp mature is 14 degrees.
I am getting out today to go meet DH for lunch and our roads aren’t icy or slick so everything’s open here.

I was in San Antonio over the weekend for a trade show. chilly & drizzly most of the weekend but still in the 60's - we were in our short sleeves enjoying the warmth - the locals were all bundled up and complaining. We left Monday afternoon and heard that they were already calling off school for the next day. We were like WHAT? we headed back home to South Dakota where we had 8-10 inches of snow on top of a sheet of ice with temps below zero - nothing is closed It is amazing what you get acclimated to in your own region. Stay safe TX peas - had a wonderful time on the Riverwalk in San Antonio regardless of the "awful" weather

sleet and thunder here this morning - so random. Roads in my neighborhood are covered in sleet/frozen rain - enough that it looks white as snow.

I live near Denton, TX. We have gotten a lot of sleet and freezing rain. My driveway, backyard and street are covered in ice. They cancelled school on Monday and today. I am just waiting to see if they cancel tomorrow too. Fortunately we went to the grocery store on Sunday in anticipation of being home for a few days.

I know I'm sneaking in a TX thread but I'm a next door neighbor. We have just started getting our sleet/frozen mix. And this will continue all night.
I've got all devices charged or charging. Shows downloaded if need be. And plenty of books at the ready should we lose power.

I'm just east of DFW airport & we got a lot of sleet and ice earlier today. It's stopped for the most part but it expected to start again later. I always WFH so nothing changed for me. My husband works from home or on site at people's homes but he does his work outside (he's a chainsaw artist) so he isn't working today. My son's college cancelled classes (he commutes) so he was happy about that!

This seems to be our annual ice storm.
I was supposed to fly to San Francisco at 5:30 tonight but they canceled my flight last night. So I scrambled and booked a 6:30 am flight this morning and crossed my fingers that I would make it out before the second (and worse) round. It really wasn’t terrible in central Dallas yesterday or at 4:00 am today.
My flight actually took off only 30 min late (after de-icing) and I’m now safely under sunny skies in San Francisco. Meanwhile, DH sent pics of our snow covered patio.
I’m stunned I made it out. This is for training that lets me take on new professional roles and if I miss it I can’t reschedule before July. It’s a cool opportunity that I'm super excited about and really didn’t want a big delay.

This seems to be our annual ice storm. My DD is happy because the ice storm last year was just about this time. Her bday is the 4th, so she loves that she seems to be often getting a bonus day or two off of school! Last year was her sweet 16 and we had a sign done on the neighborhood entry sign - but since no one was driving, we had to convince everyone to go for a walk in the ice. It was a challenge, especially since DH framed it as we were taking a walk up to church (which he NEVER goes to and was utterly implausible and not really the first choice for most teens to go to on their day off!).
