This bunny was really challenging for me. I spent two days felting it and stringing the joints, then another two days tearing it all apart and fixing what I didn’t like. I think I’m finally happy with it. I guess the beauty of needle felting is that it’s fairly easy to fix or rework things you aren’t happy with.

I recently finished felting this guy, and I’m pretty happy with him. He is jointed and can stand up by himself. Okay, Im in love with this guy too. Yes, I love the creative free form nature of it, of any craft, as we've already established I am pattern-challenged. I have an idea for a group of mice or bunnies in different vibrant colors...classic shapes but jewel tone cartoony colors. But I probably need to just get going and try it, and get over the hump of the "what if I suck??" Perfectionism, much??

I’m sure you won’t suck! Your first project may not turn out exactly how you imagine, but you will learn more with each project and improve quickly.

I just can't help myself. 😁 I was the kid that used to imagine what animal houses looked like in terms of decor. Think acorn cups sitting on a squirrel 's dining room table kind of thing. Which lead to me naming animals I regularly saw on our property.

It's my first time at this thread! I'm a crocheter. I'm working on a blanket for my sister's SO. We are going to Boston in May for DD's grad school graduation and it will be my first time meeting him. He is six foot eight so I'm making it extra big! I'm also working on a felt stocking for Christmas for DD's boyfriend who may be DSIL by then! Jeremysgirl, have you tried a different hook? I like Clover. It's my left hand that has the carpal tunnel. I've been experiencing a lot of numbness. And I am right handed. So a change of hook won't help. It’s my yarn hand. I am a huge fan of the Addi Swing hooks. They are curved and they rest nice and gently in my hand in the knife hold. I had carpal tunnel surgery on both sides in 2021 and my recovery was quick, especially for my left (non-dominant). I was back to crocheting in about a week!

So many cool makes...I love the variety on this thread! Like books, I have more interests and supplies for crafts than I will likely ever have time for. I picked up an old quilting magazine at a thrift store and there are some simple projects I'd like to try/adapt, so even though the watercolors, felting and add'l crochet are in the queue to try, I may look at some fabric.
Part of my issue is I was raised no play before the work is done and even though I know creative stuff is important, I have a hard time allowing myself to take time and just do it. The crochet project was fine bc I was at a wrestling match and wanted to pass the 98% of the time that our wrestler wasn't on the mat. My work is such that I ALWAYS have more to do or could be doing. Even if I'm not working I don't necessarily allow myself the fun stuff, which is silly. The other part is the perfectionism. This is supposed to be fun, right? I'm better about it than I used to be but you'd think I'd have figured this out by now.

I'm not quite sure what to advise as far as your work goes. I am allowed 40 hours of work, paid hourly, and overtime not allowed. So there is a finite end to my work day and work week. I know you have various days where you don't teach maybe you could actively set aside 2 days out of 7 for just off the clock play time. Second, perfectionism is a hard thing. I know that this gives my sister a lot of anxiety. Are you a perfectionist in your life in general? It may be impacting your time argument too. And my bit of advice is that a therapist might help. Because from what I've seen, perfectionism comes with anxiety and self esteem issues. So maybe a therapist would help. Hugs.

It has taken me three days to even acknowledge the existence of February this year, and there are sooooo many posts already, so a bit of a catch up before posting my own stuff! Part of my issue is I was raised no play before the work is done and even though I know creative stuff is important, I have a hard time allowing myself to take time and just do it. I'm better about it than I used to be but you'd think I'd have figured this out by now. I was the same, even though my mum considered some crafting - mainly sewing clothes for all us kids - to be a part of her work as a SAHM. even now, when I don't work outside the house, I still find it difficult to sit and knit before lunch time, even if all my housework is done. And yes, it is supposed to be fun. That is part of why I don't like to have deadlines on any of my crafting - I don't make many gifts, unless I have a lot of time, or it is a baby gift, which doesn't take long to make. jeremysgirl - Your teal shawl is amazing. I just love that color and it looks great on you. Just T - your Yuletide blanket is coming along nicely. I love the color combo akkaren - welcome to the craft thread. I am looking forward to seeing some of your makes soon gillyp - I love the pattern you are making. Your stitches are so neat and even! finsup - love, love, love all those hats for your granddaughter! snoopy - OMG! What a menagerie you have created. They are all gorgeous and have wonderful personalities.

Because from what I've seen, perfectionism comes with anxiety and self esteem issues. So maybe a therapist would help. Hugs. Thank you for your thoughtful response. I'm salaried, and as a professor there's just always more to be done. I have gotten much better about boundaries, although bc I am not on campus much I feel pressure to be available for emails and texts more than I should be. I do have plenty of down time though. I don't have to be on task 40 straight hours. But esp working from home this semester it does make it tougher to turn off. Yes, the perfectionism does spill over into other parts of life, and yes is connected to anxiety. I have a great therapist, and it is one of the things we address, as a trauma response from childhood. Very thankful for her support!

sueg how long does it take you to knit an adult sweater? I love the colours and patterns you are doing but cables are my first love. tmarschall I find crafting gives me a lift and helps me to be more productive with my work chores. Would looking at it that way help?

Would looking at it that way help? It really does help me to look at it that way too gillyp. I think for me it is a lot having to do with my bipolar disorder. I don't sit still for long periods of time. So I tend to crochet for half hour and then load the dishwasher. Crochet for half hour and then tidy up the dining room table. This is how I approach almost everything in my life. In small, manageable chunks of time. It isn't because of procrastination though, it is because my brain doesn't focus for very long. I've also been known to work for an hour and then crochet a line on whatever project I'm working on. And then continue on like that.

gillyp - it depends a bit on the yarn and the complexity of the sweater. Something fairly plain in DK or worsted I could manage in a month. The pink/cream one is a lighter weight and the grey is all over cables, so they will probably take. Bit longer. Two of the three are made in one piece, so no sewing up at the end which makes things quicker as well.

sueg, be still my heart, those are gorgeous sweaters. I too really love a cable knit sweater. finsup, holy cats that a good and those hats are wonderful. Wasn't Wednesday fun. We typically watch a show every couple of days, but Dh and I plowed thru Wednesday in 3 days! I'll never admit to how many times I went back and watched the dance scene. 😆 KikiPea, darling earrings and perfect for Mardi Gras!

sueg those are beautiful jumpers. What yarn are you using for the bottom one? I love the pinks.
I'm also someone who finds it difficult to craft unless I'm done with my jobs for the day, I'm very much a tidy house, tidy mind person and can't settle to the fun stuff till everything is just so.
