I don't know what came over me this weekend, but it was a major clean and purge event. I meant to put December Daily away, instead I overhauled most of my craft space and deep cleaned.
My space is tiny (by choice), a 7 by 7 room. One wall is a 5x5 Kallax, the other is my desk with Alex storage and a couple of carts. We built it 7 years ago and I'm ashamed to say that I never deep cleaned it until now.
Everything came off the Kalax, vacuumed, dusted and cleaned each cubby and wall behind. Got rid of things I wasn't using anymore - bins of fabric, 6x6 paper pads, laminator, a bunch of Tim Holtz supplies. Filed kids school papers piled up for 2 years, sorted each and every cubical. I now have OPEN (my word of the year) shelves for future purchases. Everything is so clean and organized. My random bits bowl (embellishments I never wanted to put away) have been put where they belong.
It feels so good! As does the 6 boxes for donation and two full boxes of recycling.

Used a sheet of stickers I bought for dd but that weren’t “her colours or vibe” for a page about her besties bday. They were PERFECT!
This forcing myself to use things is going so well! I may even be able to fit things I’ve kept for her albums in one tub by the end of this 😲
Also used up some round corner 3x4 cards. Again, wanted to use something else but made myself look there first and found really good options.

I made a bunch of corgi bookmarks for my students and somehow trashed my desktop. Need to get back in and clean it up and I am committing to doing at least 14 pages a month until I get caught up. I have 60 pages all planned and in baggies ready to go.

I've been putting items in 2 gallon ziploc bags for donation. If I haven't used an item in years, it's going out!
I also have continued cutting up sticker sheets to save the images I will likely use and tossing the remainder.
I replaced the photo mats for 2 large photos I purchased with ugly brown mats. Michaels had nice premade mats for only $11. I am donating the old mats. In the past I would probably have stashed them "just in case" I could use them in the future.

Congratulations to all of you who are making progress! I haven't done anything scrap-related since before Christmas. I am stalled now because my sister gave me a puzzle for Christmas and it's taking me forever to complete it. One of the hardest I've worked on. It's taking up the workspace I use for sb-ing so I NEED to finish it. |

I'm thinking about doing a purge of most of my ribbon. I couldn't tell you the last time I used any. I have a whole drawer full of AC ribbon that I purchased from TM over the years, when they'd have 10-12 rolls in a package.

You didn't ask for advice so ignore this if you don't want any, but you could: - open the drawer and look for the worst of it, the stuff you never would've chosen if it didn't come in a multi-pack. You're allowed to keep the ones that you enjoy and that you might use - it's not all or nothing. Start pulling out the worst and the good stuff may reveal itself. - put all of the ribbon into a quarantine bin if you are not certain and think maybe you'll miss some of it. Dump after a certain period of time. - or just go with the gut feeling you already have that you've time-tested it for months and years already and it can all just go away now. I'm sure you have more exciting things that could be stored in that drawer so I would say go for it! |

I’m inspired by reading this thread.
I’m facing the reality that I probably have to move in the next 6 months and will no longer have an office/scrap room. I decluttered when I moved here and I really like my room and the supplies I have left. I have no idea how I’m going to pare down.

Will you be able to set up a scrappy space in part of a room? With maybe some storage elsewhere if needed (a closet, an armoire, under a bed) that you can shop from? (((Hugs))) |

I like the idea of shopping from somewhere else though. |

I have a HUGE mess to conquer and I’m discouraged.
I’ve begun by emptying out one bin art a time. it’s not the fastest or most efficient, but it’s something.
There’s a LSS Garage Sale next month. I plan on filling a large plastic tub of stuff. What doesn't sell, the store can donate.

I went through my 9 small embellishment-by-color drawers. And while it’s not a large mass of items I’m getting rid of, they did almost fill a basket that’s about 11x13x5. That’s probably at least a third of what I had. And more importantly, it’s stuff that doesn’t inspire me and I’d be using it because I could/should, not because I’d be dying to play with it!

I remember buying many from Archiver's for $1. |

Ok, what do I do with hand made items from swaps 15 years ago that are not ever going to be used by me?
I’ve used most all my punch shapes or my DS has in her paper making. I’ve used whatever I could on cards, I’ll keep my tag progressive swaps forever because I love them even if I won’t used them. But there’s still some things I’ll never use. It’s feels in poor taste to sell someone else’s work. There really isn’t a place to donate titles & stuff. What do I do with them?
If it were someone asking me about something I made in a swap 15 years ago I’d answer dispose of it as you see fit. I mean I’ve given my kids permission to throw out all my scrapbooks because I don’t want my hobby to be a burden on them.
But can I really just throw out peoples work?

But can I really just throw out peoples work? If you were talking about a whole bunch of titles, etc I would say put them in a ziploc and donate them to Goodwill or similar. If we are talking less than 10, I would throw them away. Yes, I have had to throw out people's work, and I am assuming they had to throw mine. I am trying to remember what this is, but it is kind of like the sunk cost fallacy. The work is already done, the intent has been completed (the swap) everyone felt good about getting it done, etc. |

It feels bad, but once it's done you will move on and probably never think of it again - just like the people who sent you the stuff, who have probably forgotten they ever made it. The other option would be to offer it here on the boards, if you think that someone might make use of it. But is it realistic that someone would pay to ship this stuff? IDK. |

I remember buying many from Archiver's for $1. Great!! Not only did you reduce by half, you found things you'd forgotten about so you're more likely to use it or lose it down the track |

I agree - I wouldn't be comfortable selling it unless maybe if it was a small part of a large lot of random scrappy items. But you could RAK here or donate to a local thrift store or toss. It's okay to get rid of things you're not going to use. Not everything we receive in a swap ends up working for us and that's okay - that's expected even. |

I’ve been working on whether to throw out negatives and CDs from 2004-20teens. Some were from my pre-digital camera era, some were questionably artistic practice, and most were already in my external hard drives, which is where I would look for photos first. I’m not the kind of person who will just toss them without thinking but I checked and double checked that I had them saved a digital files, in albums or photo books, and many printed out too. I’ve tossed out almost all of them, holding onto a few that I can’t seem to find on my EHDs yet.
Does anyone else get overwhelmed because there are too many backups and duplicates of photos?! Sometimes I can’t find what I need because I made a folder of copies for a project and then didn’t trash them when I was done so they got saved and backed up in multiple places. Sigh. I’ve got some more digital organization to do.
