I watched a bunch of reviews and then got a Roborock that vacuums and mops. I intended it more for its use as a mop, but have found it quite convenient for vacuuming, too. It makes such neat carpet tracks - much better coverage than my ds was getting.

We have a Eufy named Dirty Harry.
I run it a couple times a week. I have to clean the beater brush often as my hair gets all twisted around it. With the amount of hair that thing picks up it's amazing I have any hair left.

I bought a cheap Shark about 2 1/2 years ago and while it is probably on it's last leg it's been WONDERFUL. Now that I have a St. Bernard, the thing gets clogged up (and it's older) so soon I would like to upgrade to a nicer one. My dog sheds like there is no tomorrow.

MichyM I bought one. I've been wanting one for a while and this was a great price on it. Thanks! Update - MichyM I love it! I'm amazed how much it picks up every day on my floors. I have a combination of LVP, carpet, and area rugs.

From the article: However, the spokesperson for iRobot added that the pictures had been taken by “special development robots with hardware and software modifications that are not and never were present on iRobot consumer products for purchase”.

However when it wears out I might try one that self empties. I’m not a fan of taking care of it daily. Also, for those who have a higher end model, and pets, do you still find that you need to clean the brush after every use?

But they stored them & leaked them?!? No matter where they got it from why would they leak people on toilet pictures?

I agree that is very concerning, but also it is important to know that no current consumer device has this capability. Definitely something to keep an eye on for the future though and to be aware.

We are already planning for one with mapping, self-emptying, and that docks itself! 😂

Well, at 1:55am, dh heard a strange noise from the first floor. When he went down to check it out, he found that the Robot Overlord had turned itself on and was vacuuming. I checked this morning and it was not set to clean on a timer. 😂😂

I think maybe we will turn it off at the switch when we arent using it.

It is set to go at 2am everyday, and other than locking itself in the laundry room (must have pushed the door opened then pushed it closed from inside) no weirdness….so far.

We have one of the original Roombas that DH had to have back when they first came out and were about $400. Honestly I don’t love it. When we had it at the house it would get stuck under furniture all the time or it would fill up before getting even halfway done with the main floor and go back to its charger until someone would think to empty it. It was noisy thumping into doors and walls. We had three shedding dogs back then so at times there could be a lot of fur to deal with if we were in the midst of winter coat blow out.
It has since been relocated to the lake cabin which is a better spot for it. We think to turn it on once every 6-8 weeks, maybe. It tends to get stuck on the power cord under our Sleep Number bed if we don’t close the door to that room, or on the chenille mat in the main floor bath. Then if we don’t think to go rescue it, it could sit stuck there for quite a while.
I will say it has lasted for quite a number of years, but for several of those years it sat at the house not even plugged in. Who knows if that extended its life compared to one that would be used daily or even weekly somewhere else. If I had to buy one again I’d get one that self empties because that’s the downfall to me, that the dust cup is pretty small and it fills up really fast.

I would LOVE to have one. My pug sheds like nobody's business. But I live on a boat and there are too many stairs. Next house though, I am getting one!!

I bought this one and my husband just ran it downstairs. It wasn’t making its way to one room so my husband steered it that way with the remote. The guestroom and bathroom doors were closed and it still ran for well over an hour. He wasn’t watching to see how well it did but it picked up a lot as it went under some furniture. Just curious how long these normally run? Our house isn’t tiny but not that huge. My son takes maybe 10 minutes to vacuum downstairs. Now this also cleaned the kitchen and hardwood areas he doesn’t. Which usually takes me 10 minutes. I understand it’s learning but it seems to move pretty quick and my son does a quick job and can’t get under furniture as well as this can but it seems like it took a long time. No way I could run this at night as it would be too loud for us but still love the idea of running this several days a week - no pets and just the three of us.
Just curious about how long most run for snd do future runs go faster since it has learned. This bounced around and didn’t seem to go in any pattern.

It doesnt map and it doesnt take itself back to the dock or empty itself. It just keeps going until you send it to the dock. We have found that if we block off certain areas, it does better. Our first floor is pretty open, so we block it into the living room. When it is done there, we block it into the kitchen and dining room. It does a decent job- we empty it out and can see what it has picked up.

I have a different one than the linked one but to vacuum the whole ground floor? probably an hour and half or two hours BUT it often stops to recharge part the way through plus goes back to empty itself so the actual process takes longer. Mine does one room at a time moving from room to room pretty logically but yes - it took longer when I first got it as it learnt the layout.

I love our Roomba (affectionately named Cuban Pete...king of the Roomba beat). We just upgraded to the model that empties the dirt automatically. I love the app too. Always makes me smile when it notifies me "Cuban Pete has completed its task."

3 cats worth of fur and litter here. We have a shark named Clean Latifah. She runs daily but we still vacuum with a stick vac as she doesn’t do great under cupboards. Definitely nice to keep ahead of the tumbleweeds of fur though!

I’m afraid it will scare the dog causing her to get hurt trying to get away from it. A dog trainer shared a tip with me that I think is useful. Let your dog see you verbally and physically "correct" the roomba. If it comes toward your feet, say "No", hold up a hand (or whatever gesture you would also use with your dog when saying no) and then block and redirect the roomba. Her thought is that doing this allows the dog to form some context for understanding the thing. That said, when my female lab was a little pup, she would try to ride on it. Or cats just leave the area, and our mature labs just ignore it, and if it bumps into them, they push it away. We had a cheap small basic under $100 model that just did our bedroom (trying to keep the pet fur down and help with allergies.) Then we got a base model roomba, which does the whole main floor on a daily basis and does a good job of it. However, it died, right before the warranty was out, so we contacted the manufacturer, and they sent as a whole new one of a newer, but also base model. It's going strong on its second year. We do maintain it scrupulously every time the ap prompts us to replace brushes and filters. It runs several hours every day and keeps us from being covered in the hair of 2 cats and 2 dogs.

We had an entry level Roomba for 3 years. Had nothing to compare it to since it was our first, but really wanted one that would self empty, so we bought a Roborock. It has better suction than the roomba, but it just stopped automatically emptying itself a few weeks ago. DD has the same one, and yep, it’s doing the same thing after only a few months. Time to call support I guess.
Oh, and ours is named “dog enemy”, since our terrier abhors it 😂

I'm glad this thread got bumped. I'm thinking of buying this refurbished Shark robot that has mapping and is bagless. Shark robovacI have never purchased refurbished before but it's about half the price of the new one. Anyone had this model?

I would absolutely love to have one, but I don't understand how to keep it from falling down stairs. We have kind of s sunken living room that would cause problems on the first floor, and the the stairs upstairs - the top is so open. How do you get around that?
