I recently had someone say to me, “I love your hair. You’ve got like a Cruella de Vil thing going there.”
I’ll come back to tell you my reaction so as not to influence you. In the meantime I should probably change my profile pic to one that is less than 10 years old 😝

I would take it to mean the stripe of gray, and wavy. Doesn’t she have a stripe of gray in her hair? I wouldn’t think of anything else.

I would say it’s wavy and dark with a stripe of grey.

I agree with above answers and I would be thrilled to have that hair!! PICS are definitely needed here

I would take it as a compliment as it’s a comment on what is obviously a kick ass gray stripe through your hair. If you are unsure, why assume it was a negative? I only say this because, unless it’s something you plan to address (it was negative from someone who you care about their opinion) life is much easier if you smile and move on thinking your hair looks great.
Don’t let negative thoughts eat up space in your head.

I think I would be taken aback, but if it was true, then I would have to own it! 😄

Eh. I don't know. Her hair is kind of crazy and unruly, and half one color and half the other. I don't think I would be thrilled to hear that.

It would depend on who said it and the context.
For the most part I think if a friend said it, I'd laugh. If an acquaintance or stranger said it, I'd be offended at the backhanded compliment. Because to me, (I know other people would not find it offensive) I don't find being compared to Cruella a compliment.
I'll go a step farther and mention that for me, gray hair that has come with aging has been hard for me to accept and I'd be feeling very much like I needed to reevaluate my hair if someone said that to me. But again, I realize this is my own issue and not everyone would be as sensitive to it.

I would take it to mean that you have a striking contrast in your hair color.

I had that gray streak going on until I started coloring my hair. I had someone ask me how I did it and my response was that it was natural and I guess God liked it too. I wasn't offended, but surprised. I thought it was pretty cool until the stripe started getting wider

I always say that I have the Bonnie Raitt grey... and I don't love it. I don't know how I would react to a Cruella remark.. probably just shake it off and think I need to get to the hairdressers.

Didn't Cruella have half black and half white starting from a middle part? I don't recall a stripe.

I don't think people should be commenting on the looks of others. I'd be uncomfortable - even with an obvious compliment. Close family members or very good friends might be the exception.

Seeing as how the person prefaced the observation with "I love your hair", I would take it as a compliment; an unusual one, but a compliment nevertheless.

Ok, I will be the dissenter. I would be taken aback a bit. Her hair was black on one side and white on the other. There was no gray stripe, which I have seen numerous times and can look amazing. Now, if they are talking Emma Stone style and not color, total compliment.
Also, I think anytime you are compared to a "villain" it is not good.

My reaction? “F*@k yeah I do!” Years ago I probably would have been offended to be compared to a puppy-killing villain, but I just laughed.
And I did just change my profile pic to more accurately reflect my age/hair color/ wrinkle status.

Ehhh, while I don't think I would make that comparison, this person apparently feels that Cruella has hella style and that yours compares.
Then again, I've been known to tell people that their dress is giving me June Alyson vibes and they look at me like who? So it's always dicey to compare someone with a "celebrity"

In the meantime I should probably change my profile pic to one that is less than 10 years old 😝 I would sing the theme song, "Cruella DeVille"...then I would tell the person that was insulting. I have a good sense of humor, but that doesn't mean you should insult me.

Why are people so fully invested in how a woman wears her hair? I colored for years and now I’m letting it go gray. Oh, the odd remarks I’ve gotten and they are not kind. Some are backhanded compliments, others are down right rude. My standard answer - “My, what an odd thing to say.” They are totally taken aback and they usually sputter around for a response and then shut up. Works like a charm.

i wouldn't be offended at all. i think it's more clever that than the more common "you've got that skunk thing going on there". there is a local new anchor here who has that kind of hair. i think it's very pretty on her. i think it's her trademark look.

Man, I dunno. It's a backhanded compliment at best. Y'know, say something nice so you can follow up with what you really think, lol. "I love what you're trying to do with your hair!" How do you reply to a comment like that?! "Uh, thanks?"
That said, I have a couple friends with long dark hair that have tried to "highlight" it occasionally over the years. It comes off with a Lily Munster look which I almost blurted out once, the same way.. Wow, love your hair. My first thought was Lily Munster.
LOL I also have a couple friends that would have said it, if they'd thought it.
But not me of course.
lol

I'm hear to say your new picture is beautiful. I don't see the Cruella reference, but my response would have been, Cool, thank you! And I would likely have had an extra spring in my step the rest of the day.

I would take it as an insult and compliment all in one. I would say a brief, polite and civil "thank you".....while thinking "why the need to add an insult with a compliment?". I'd let it go in one ear, and out the other....because I don't care what other people think of me and how I life my life. I deem stuff like that trivial and it's not worth wasting my time, or emotional and mental energy on.
