I can't say that I have bought anything BECAUSE a YTer or celebrity owns it. I have learned about certain items, brands, or products through YT or other sources that have highlighted items I needed, was already looking for, or solved a problem I am having and their review spurred research toward making a purchase, or not.

Me too! I have a certain type of wax paper but never got around to doing whatever project. Now whenever I reach for my aluminum foil I always think “I should figure out what this is for!” 😂 I'm guessing it's Press & Seal. You can arrange your die cuts how you want them on a card, then lay the Press & Seal over it to pick it all up at once, put glue on the back and adhere it to the card. Guess how I know! The best use for press & seal is in paint rolling pans, makes clean up a breeze! I have bought or tried brands bcz of celebs or peas. I found Everlane bcz of Megan Markle before she was a royal, and like their mission, quality of fashion, ethical sourcing. But then abandoned that brand when they did some shady practices with employees during covid. I still love my Everlane cashmere sweater from years back. Influencing is just the new word for advertising. It's not a bad thing that people can find a way to support themselves and others. The market of influencing has created many jobs. I have a family member who is a director of sales for a company that helps connect influencers and brands. It's an industry now. I appreciate when I find out about local or small business type brands that I can support. A lot of that awareness has come from social media.

Nothing. I dont follow celebrities and I think the concept of "influencer" as a career is silly. yeah, wait to you see their paychecks. DD's bff is huge. It boggles my mind the amount of money she makes. She's chartering private jets, bought homes for family and retired her dad. She's also godmother to my two grandsons. Their college funds are set. Wow that is awesome! What does she promote???

I don't have time or care to browse, shop all from scratch without inspo or a recommendation. I wouldn't even know where to start. I mean, I like going into a shop like Zara and pull together and outfit but I'm sure in the back of my head something or someone somewhere influenced my decisions. I'm good with that. Influencing is just the new word for advertising. These points resonate with me. I like having a suggestion of something to buy and why. Then I still have the discretion to decide if it's for me or not and whether to purchase. I'm sitting under a throw blanket right now while drinking coffee and peaing in this early morning hour. I bought the throw at Nordstroms while shopping with two young women. One of them was on a mission to find these throws that day and she was so passionate about it because an influencer had raved about them. Turns out they were crazy soft and came in absolutely gorgeous colors. I decided I needed one too although I went into the day of shopping with no need for a blanket. That was a couple years ago, and I have used it ever since. In this case being "influenced" made me aware of something I would never know existed otherwise and that has added value to my life. Seems like it can be a good thing.

Cristine of HoloTaco and her nail polish. It is amazing! One of my co-workers wore this amazing color to work. Many releases later, I am a fan.
There are a few bullet journaling/journalers I follow that I have used their discount codes. Wasn’t so much influenced by them as legitimized a company I was considering ordering from.
Sometimes I can find the products on Amazon. Will try there first. Have been looking at Karst brand journals. Found them at B&N. Super suspicious due to a past scam company.

Kind of the opposite...I've stopped buying so many different cleaning products because I follow a lady who is great at promoting and explaining natural cleaning methods with vinegar, lemons, bicarb etc. I was watching a youtube video yesterday to figure out how to clean my glass cooktop that was sooo gross. This is what I cleaned it with (plus some razor blades) and it looks almost brand new--it's 20+ years old.

I have no sense of style so I follow a few “mid-size” fashion influencers. I don’t necessarily buy the exact products but I have been able to put together some nice outfits from following them. I also follow and organization/cleaning influencer who recommended Scrub Daddy paste and I love the stuff!!

I don't follow any influencers so I can't say I have bought anything because of them directly, but I have definitely bought stuff recommended here by people who were influenced in some way. I have tons of things because of reading about them here!
I don't know a lot about what celebrities use or wear that would be a smart purchase for me--I'd love an Hermes purse but that's a little silly for me to spend that much relative to what I make. I will, however, buy their brands! Jessica Simpson shoes, JLo Beauty skincare, loved her Glow perfumes, Rihanna's Fenty line, etc.
I also rather enjoy Housewife products to some degree. I really liked Teresa's first cookbook. I'd buy Kyle haircare if she had it. Have gone to the Manzo boys' restaurant when they had one in Hoboken. Drew the line at their Blk alkaline water or whatever it was. Ick. Sus, like it's just straight from some pipe in a toxic dump in NJ and that's why it's black and its pH is off. 🤣
It still needs to be something I'd actually use but I'm not above it.

I tried a Charli cold brew coffee from Dunkin Donuts because my kids suggested it. It was very sweet and overpriced.

Not really a celebrity, but a girl I follow on TikTok loves ice and she buys all sorts of ice cube trays and she also makes coffee...all different kinds. I've purchased ice cube trays and various chai and coffee flavoring stuff because of her. Can you share who it is you follow??? I love those kind of posts!

I don't follow celebrities, but I've bought Rick Steves packing cubes and other travel gadgets and I regularly buy new shades of watercolor and brushes when I've seen them in a tutorial.

The peas are far better enablers!! Yup. Ask me what I bought because peas endorse it and it’s quite a list!! Celebrities not so much. I watched something somewhere, some interview with a celebrity, and I remember them saying oh that face cream nope never actually used it I was just paid to endorse it. I’d much rather try something the peas have tried and liked. Oh wait I just reread the title, endorsing vs owning is very different. I think if I saw a celebrity that owns something and they mention why they like it and it works and it’s affordable I might be inclined to get it. I still use the peas as my primary source of reviews. I’m in the market for new luggage so first thing I did was search luggage here this morning. 😆

Well because of THIS thread I got me a pair of Superga sneakers. They are adorable even on a size 10 foot. I can't wait to wear them (in the spring) with my long skirts (mainly). They are a little 'heavy' but I love them. And then I think.. I have shoes like Kate Middleton.. who would have thunk. hahaha

I buy a ton of craft stuff because I see it used by makers I follow on YouTube or Facebook. I buy what I like and what I think I will use. I also pay attention to organization and storage ideas because they actually use the products they show.
I have bought flowers, plants, gardening tools and products because I see them being used by people on YT. I bought my Felco pruners and my pop-up garden bag because I saw them used by Laura on Garden Answer, for example.
I buy some things recommended by people here, just as I might if a personal friend mentioned something.
I prefer things that are actually used or reviewed by people, rather than just some endorsement or ad campaign. I can still do some research myself, but since I rarely just go somewhere and wander a store, it saves time if I know about a product because of another person.
