I'm not sure what's going on, but my BP has been 160/98 the past 2 days. I haven't changed anything, so not sure what's causing it. I have a call into the Dr. and will see what she says. UGH I HATE this. So much for losing weight and dropping D Coke from my diet. So, bummed. ***Small update: DH did take his BP when he got home and it was higher than usual. So, either we ate something that didn't agree with our BP, or my machine is being wonky. I will take my BP again in the AM. If it is still high (It was 139/91 this morning), I have a errand to run so I will check it at Walgreens to see what their machine says. ***Wed. update: I am back on 20 mg's till I can meet with her next month.

Hope you feel better soon. I have high BP, too. Last week I was at an urgent care on vacation and on the discharge paperwork they put a red exclamation point next to my BP saying I should follow up with my PCP because my BP when they took it was 122/69 and anything over 122 should be monitored. My PCP would start turning cartwheels if I ever had that reading in her office!!

I know. This really sucks. I had been on BP meds for several years and was just able to drop them with monitoring in July. I was hoping all of the changes I had made would keep my BP in check. Let's hope this is just some fluke!

Are you getting any exercise? That will help, as well as the weight loss. I hope you can get it under control and avoid the meds.

Fingers crossed that this is a temporary blip. Maybe holiday stress?

I hope it comes down soon. Pain can cause it to be elevated, so maybe that is it.
Good luck!

Are you having symptoms, or just going by what the monitor tells you? Because those monitors can be wacky. Just this weekend, I was at urgent care, and the first monitor said my BP was 149/143. I think that makes me technically dead. Retook with a different monitor and it was much closer to normal...not dead....

I think that makes me technically dead. Retook with a different monitor and it was much closer to normal...not dead.... I don't have many symptoms, just a VERY mild headache. The time they put me on BP meds, it was 200+/100+. They took me to the ER to give me meds by IV. When it was that high, I had a HORRID, pounding headache so bad I could not look at a computer screen. DH is going to take his when he gets home to compare. His is almost always normal, or close to it. If his is weird at all, I will run up to Walgreens to see what their machine says.

It's not really THAT bad, just every few days I will need to ice a certain spot. Does that make a difference?

Some people just have high blood pressure. I've been on BP medicine since the month I turned 30. Cholesterol has always been great, not overweight, I exercise, etc. My mom developed high BP in her 30s too. They say about 15-20% of people with high BP have no apparent underlying cause, or at least not one that is discernible. Without meds mine is around 160/110.
So, for the past 21 years I've been taking daily BP medicine. The thought of a stroke scares me enough to make taking daily medicine for BP a worthwhile trade off.

Are you in pain when you take your bp? Pain is a stress on your body. Certain pain meds can also raise bp. I think ibuprofen can.

I haven't taken any pain meds since mid-week for back pain and/or meds for period pain since Wed., but maybe that does have something to do with it.

I've been cautioned extensively not to fixate on my pulse. I don't remember the last time my BP was checked. Hearts are weird things.

We are monitoring it because she just took me off BP meds in July. She wanted me to watch it to see if I can stay off, or if I need to get back on a low dose (5 mgs). I hadn't taken it in about a week. It just freaked me out that it was so high. She DID say that if it was 150/90 3 days in a row to call. I may have called too quickly, but we'll see what she says tomorrow.

Hope it all works out and this was just a blip as someone said. After all the work of improving your health, you certainly deserve to stay med-free.

You should take your machine with you to your next Dr. visit. Then you can check with your machine versus what the nurse/assistant gets manual. Then you can get a better idea of your BP, it could just be your machine.

So, DH took his BP this morning and it's still registering high. His is never high. I am going to stop by Walgreens while I am out and about today to see what it says.
It could be a combination of the machine and my back pain as it is pretty sore this morning. I hope to talk to the Dr. Today and see what she thinks.
Thanks for for the prayers!

It's interesting because according to my doctor if you're over 40 120/80 is not the "norm" necessarily. The older you get the less elasticity your blood vessels have and therefore a bp of a little bit higher is nothing to freak out over. My doctor says 135/85 is fine. I've always found that the machines at the drug stores run high for me. Of course everyone's doctor has a different opinion : )

Pain will definitely make your BP higher. Also I was going to suggest restorative yoga - that might help with both issues, the back pain and the BP.
I've had 2 back injuries that had me down for the count for several months each. Also, high BP runs in my family and in my 20s I was around 140-150/100. I started yoga about 6-7 years ago, and I now have to make sure I eat enough salt because my BP is so low I get lightheaded. Yoga made a huge difference for me with both those problems.
