In your state, if there are two right-turn lanes, can you make a turn on right from both lanes? For those who drove on the left, can you make the left on red?
I was in Hawaii, and I was going to turn right on red. There were two right-turn lanes and I was in the lane farthest from the curb. After I checked for no cars, I started to turn and my Aunt quickly yelled that I can’t turn right on red from the lane I was in. I was surprised because in California, you can turn right on red from both lanes. Just wondering how it is in your state. And for those that drive on the left side, I guess this a left turn for you. And a bit of a tangent, but why don’t we have one set of traffic rules across the entire US?

I voted that I don't know. However, I do turn right from the second lane on a red. I just don't know if it is legal.

Yes, California here. Only time you can't is when there is no right turn on red allowed or during certain times.

I am guessing my state doesn't have many 2 lane right turns. I can't even think if I have been in that situation.
HOWEVER, right outside my work is a left handed turn from a one way street to a one way street, no oncoming traffic. There is no sign saying you can't turn. But I always feel like I'm breaking the law. It's a side street onto a slow'ish street, so not a ton of traffic, not that it makes a difference.

Where I live (DC-area), those types of intersections usually have signage telling you whether or not you can turn on red from the inside lane. I tend to assume that you can't.

I don't think I've ever been somewhere that had 2 right turn only lanes. That being said, I live in CA and if it was clear, I'd turn right from either lane. I just have no idea if it's legal.

Here in California, making that left on to a one-way street against the red light is totally legal, unless a sign states otherwise.

I don’t think I’ve ever encountered 2 right turn lanes. In my state you can turn right on red unless there is a sign telling you that you can’t but it’s only single right turn lanes.

I checked other because I believe that one uses the lane closest to the curb UNLESS there is a sign indicating that it is permitted from 2 lanes.

I know it's legal in Iowa--at least according my oldest son (but I also remember him saying that Iowa was the only state that allows it...which seems hard to believe...)

I'll say that there are intersections where this is allowed, but I know that some say not to also. I guess it just depends.

Legal in Texas.
Although there are some intersections with signs that say “Right on red from right lane only,” but unless there is a specific sign at that intersection, it’s legal.

I can't think of any intersections with two right turn lanes so I voted I don't know, but a quick Google search says it's legal in Washington

I've seen two left-turn-only lanes but never two right turn.
As a frequent pedestrian, I wish all right on red were illegal!

I can only think of one intersection with two right turn lanes near me and it is legal to turn right on red from both lanes.

Two I can think of that I used all the time were exiting the freeway and then waiting on the off ramp to turn onto a street- the ones I used all the time were off 520 and I90 and both of those you’d take a right on red if if was clear.

Whenever there are two right turn lanes, there's usually a sign that either says no turn on red or turn allowed on red if traffic is clear.
I have to remind DH frequently that he cannot cross lanes when turning in a two lane turn.

I can think of 2 intersection near me where the lane closest to the curb goes to the freeway and the other dedicated right had turn lane is a through lane.

I just wish people would actually STOP before they turn right on red! And use their blinker! ETA: If they are in a turn lane it's assumed they are turning. I know this. I just think that blinker use should be a habit.

I’m also in the Metro-DC area. If there aren’t signs, you can make a right turn from either lane in NoVA. Many times there is a sign that will tell you “no right turn on red” for the inner lane, so it is not legal in those cases.

I wish people would stop thinking they have the right of way when making the free right turn.

It's funny as there's a place where there are two right turn lanes - one to go north and one to go south on the interstate. I grew up in California, and I feel that I should be able to make a right turn on red from that northbound lane, but I hesitate because it makes me worry that I will get pulled over if I do so.

Any of my fellow British Columbians know the answer to this one? I don't have a clue. But I am also not sure I've noticed 2 right turn lanes- I don't do a lot of big highway driving. Ok, I don't do any.
