Sweatshirts everywhere! DH and DS wear them in the winter instead of coats, and leave them draped over the bannister and over what ever piece of furniture happens to be near them when removed. I hate winter because of the cold but most of all because of all the clutter it brings. Boots, ice fishing stuff, coats, sweatshirts and gloves all laying and hanging around the small entry way we have in our split level house. Also, baseball hats. Between the two of them there must be 50 of them laying about.
I have my share of the clutter too, but since I am the one that does the cleaning, it does not bother me as much as their stuff does.

BAGS OMG Since NYC outlawed plastic shopping bags from groceries, etc, we have been hoarding reusable bags. But now they are overtaking the house - and still, I'm afraid to trash them, since they cost 5¢-50¢ if you show up at a store without one... Yeah me too. :-( And I get more every darned time I forget to bring one of them into a store and need to buy yet another reusable bag.

In reality, it's dog hair. I fight a never-ending battle to keep it under control. BAGS OMG Since NYC outlawed plastic shopping bags from groceries, etc, we have been hoarding reusable bags. But now they are overtaking the house - and still, I'm afraid to trash them, since they cost 5¢-50¢ if you show up at a store without one... I can certainly identify with this answer too, though. I have to be firm with myself about how many bags I will realistically use. When I look at one though, I see potential. So many ways ot could be useful... I have to talk myself out of 'em every time.

#1: Clothing---by far
#2: Sporting equipment (hockey and lacrosse)
#3: Random old technology and cords
#4: Old scrapbooks/keepsakes and photos
ETA after reading everyone else
#5: Spices, condiments
#6: Costco/TJ snacks (I have teen boys)
#7: Dog hair
Also adding:
#8: Cardboard/packaging/recycling: We always have more than we can put in recycling (every two weeks) and have some huge boxes in our garage taking up space
OBVIOUSLY it is time to declutter for me! UGH. Hockey season is over, so I can maybe actually get some stuff organized and donated. LAX starts today, so no time in the evenings, but at least my weekends are mostly open now.

Now, my only problem seems to be paperwork/mail ... I try to be organized but there are still envelopes sitting on the kitchen island that are driving me nuts ... they seem to be reproducing like bunnies! That's us! The mail and other papers are taking over! I throw away 90% of the mail, but its still a problem

I wish it was spoons. I don't know what my kids did with all the spoons but we have four metal ones, and two people have to use plastic spoons I saved from the frozen yogurt place until I get annoyed enough to buy new silverware. Pretty sure one of my kids is hoarding all of them... We are drowning in kitchen gadgets... soda stream ("kids" lost all the lids to the bottles), coffee maker we replaced but haven't figure out what to do with the old one, wafflemaker, grilled cheese maker, blender, toaster oven, omelette maker... plus the ones we actually use: bread machine, ice cream maker, coffee grinder, working coffee maker, Kitchenaid mixer, toaster, food processor, Instant pot, crock pot. I don't have a pantry so they're everywhere! Same here but it's forks and spoon. I was so annoyed over it this weekend. I'm going to have to buy some more.

My elderly Boston Terrier often changes her mind about what she will and won't eat, so I have a ridiculous amount of open bags of dog treats!

Right now I’m going to say shredded paper, and paper that needs to be shredded. I filled up an entire 90 gallon trash can with giant bags of shredded paper. It was all stuff that couldn’t just be recycled (and usually I will rip off only the sensitive parts of the paper to shred and recycle the rest) so it would either have to be burned or shredded. I looked online and discovered it will cost $1.59 per pound to have the stuff securely shredded, or for the place to take the stuff I’ve already shredded. 🙄 Yeah, no. We probably have at least 15-20 file storage boxes of old business records that still need to be shredded. But the already shredded paper can be put in the trash which we already pay for anyway. So I filled up a trash can with it and could easily fill up the other one too. Trash day is tomorrow and at least some of it is going out the door. The other thing we’re being overrun with is outgrown clothes. Some lady on our Buy Nothing group wanted some of it but she never followed up to come get it. The last couple weeks I haven’t been able to take it in to the place where I donate to because of snowstorms or rain on the days they take donations, but that stuff really has to go. I use our shredded paper as mulch for the area between our garage and fence that you can't actually see from anywhere (I use cedar on the flower beds because it's pretty). Eventually it breaks down and disappears into the ground, but until then, it is great for keeping the weeds at bay. I also have to remind myself to keep some paper that I haven't shredded to use to start a fire in our firepit or fireplace in the house--one time I was too efficient at shredding and mulching and recycling and we had no paper to help start a bonfire--so dh used enough accelerant that it made me nervous Lesson learned for me, and now I have a 'fire' box tucked into the corner of the garage!

I looked online and discovered it will cost $1.59 per pound to have the stuff securely shredded, or for the place to take the stuff I’ve already shredded. 🙄 Yeah, no. Google shredding events near you. My county just did one in conjunction with their hazardous materials disposal event (twice a year). They had a shred truck so I brought a couple of boxes of papers, dumped it in the rolling can and when that was full they shredded it right there. They said I could stay until the can was full with other papers to ensure it was shredded but I wasn't worried about it. It was free. My financial advisor said that I could bring my shred to her too because she never fills it up each month and she pays the same regardless to have it emptied. I would say right now everything is taking over my house as I am in a transition period with my "stuff". We moved a year ago and the new house didn't have long term storage room so a lot of stuff got stashed where we could put it and in a storage unit. We recently put down plywood in one of the attics to create long term storage and I am gradually going through everything. The attic looks great, the garage is looking better, the storage unit is halfway empty but the dining room is my war room for processing everything so I have stuff I am going through and then piles that need to be put away or donated (those are in boxes at least, 12 at last count) or sold online/sent to auction. Naturally stuff tends to migrate out to other areas, especially when the kids are around and it's harder to have a chunk of time to process a bunch of stuff. I did that but the next one isn’t until April 19th and there is a limit to how many boxes a household can drop off. We have a LOT of boxes of stuff that needs to be shredded. Plus the lines are usually long and the wait times can be a problem. If DH isn’t busy that day maybe I could arm twist him into helping me get some of the boxes over there. I think there are three boxes stacked up still in the office, plus the stuff I haven’t even pulled out of the filing cabinet yet. That’s probably the limit right there of what we can do for free at one of those events. That’s not even talking about the 15+ boxes that are up in the rafters of the garage. Oy. I wish we didn’t have to keep so much of that junk for so many years after the fact. I was just so tired of looking at the multiple giant bags of already shredded paper that were stacked up and the mess of random crap that was waiting to be shredded piled on the floor that I just snapped. I couldn’t take it anymore so it had to go. I swear, we must get at least a dozen business credit offers every single week.

I have a whole basket full of power cords in my office that I have no idea what they go to. But I can’t get rid of them because I also have some electronic things that are missing their cords that I could actually use if I knew which cord went with it. I really need to go through and try to figure out which cords go with what so I can get rid of the ones we don’t need anymore. LOL I did pitch an almost full box of warranty paperwork / manuals for things we no longer own! Gotta take the wins where we find them.

DH likes to use cut up pieces of cardboard for holding down the weeds and then covers it with a layer of mulch. He just cuts a hole in the cardboard where the plants are.

Pretty sure one of my kids is hoarding all of them... A couple of years ago I finally bought a whole new set of silverware because we were so low on spoons. It had been nearly 30 years but still. Why had just the teaspoons disappeared? Within a year we had lost 2 of the new ones! Fortunately the new set is a service for 12, as long as 12 people don't all need a spoon. What is it about teaspoons that make them disappear? After 26 years of marriage we were down to 2 of them. DH got online and found replacements for them from the set we bought right after we got married (Oneida) and ordered replacements without telling me. One morning I pull open the silverware drawer and instead of seeing just 2 teaspoons there is an entire stack nestled in the organizer along with the rest of the silverware. That was a nice surprise.

Mine is dog toys. I have two small dogs and one of them LOVES to have toys tossed to her so she can catch them. She also likes to carry her favorites all over. When I pick them up and put in a bin (that she CAN get them out of if she wanted) she sits by the bin and cries. She wants them Strewn all over the house! My Shih Tzu will watch me put her toys up and then she'll take them out of the basket when I am finished! 🤣

Dog toys, paperwork, books, clothes, scrapbook stuff, generally everything! I need to organize, but I'm so busy with work that I am exhausted by the time I finish and then I have no energy to clean in the evenings.

We keep trying to teach him to pick up after himself, but so far it’s not sticking. 😂

In fact, every spoon that was in the set I bought five years ago is still with us to this day. Mystery? I think not. Okay, here are mine: sweatshirts, Starbucks mugs, CAT FUR (omg, is it worse this year???), socks, and dust (currently in the middle of a remodel)

I have an Oneida set of 16 that I got as a wedding gift and every decade or so, I buy replacement pieces to get back up to the magic number of 16. I don't know where the darn things go. I paid $20 each for 3 forks a few years ago. But this set still looks really, really good for a 35 year old set, so I bought the replacements.

(Well, actually my friend did and I ended up with them.) We bought a bunch of rando silverware at a thrift store for some crops we were hosting back in the day, and when we didn’t need them anymore she was just going to donate them back to the place we bought them from. I was like, hold up there! I need a bunch of spoons at home! So she let me take them, and you know what? They’re my favorite spoons. I took the rest of it to our lake cabin where we are now flush with extra forks, LOL. DH and I didn’t have our kid at the time and I know *I* have never lost or thrown away silverware, soooo. Husbands are guilty too.

For some reason for me it's glass jars. I make salsas and give some away a lot so I always need jars, and sourdough starter sometimes too. But not as often as I seem to have hoarded jars!
Rao's jars, canned peaches from Costco jars...and then well those Bonne Maman jam jars are so darn cute. There's the cool jars that Dona Maria mole sauce come in. Jars! I have jars taking over my garage shelves!
*ed to add I don't SELL the salsas, just give some to friends/family. Therefore I don't need to hoard all of them so much.

DH bought a lot of homemade gin in Christmas markets and they come in repurposed jars and are always really cute. And the tonic that we bought came in these really pretty bottles. And all the various other colored glass jars, jam pots, demi wine bottles, … And then I fell in love with Weck jars and would hunt for those at the brocantes. I brought a bunch of those back as well.

I had an old glass tall skinny apothecary type lidded candy jar that my grandpa used to keep those long striped candy sticks in. I had it until my younger DD used it as a weight to anchor her blanket when she made a fort under the table and broke it! I cried! I saved the lid, someday I hope I find a replacement far for it.
