I originally put this in my “there is a problem Houston” thread . But I think this is serious enough that this is my yelling “look what they are doing” thread.
Three Democratic members of the Tennessee State legislature joined a peaceful protest about gun violence. A protest made up mostly of young people.
For joining the peaceful protest the Republican controlled state legislature first kicked them off the committees they were on.
Now they are voting to kick them out of the state legislature altogether.
Keep in mind all these three did was join a peaceful protest made up mostly of kids about gun violence.
What the Republicans are doing is just plain wrong and sending a clear message if you do something we don’t like we are going to get rid of you.
And so much for freedom of speech.

This is the protest the three Democrats attended and this is why the Republicans want to expel them from the state legislature.
I guess the fact people voted these three into office doesn’t matter to the Republicans.

It is hard not to hear the extremely loud echoes of reconstruction here.

So the protesters did enter the capital building and told the legislators to do their job.
I’m not a fan of protests. But maybe elected officials need more of this. Currently they pretty much do what they want without anyone pushing back.

I believe the students plan to continue protesting for a pretty long haul. Asking nicely hasn't produced results and I can't blame them for gathering.
If you live in TN, call your elected officials and let them know how you feel.

Oh it even gets better in Tennessee.
Yes actually it is about one gun. The mass shooter’s gun of choice is an AR-15. So you can start by banning this gun that should never been sold to the public in the first place.
From the article..
“State Rep. William Lamberth agreed to talk with the protesters, but had a weird way to trying to win a debate with students worried about getting shot in class. Lamberth’s approach was to ask the students which firearm they’d prefer to be shot with.
“If there is a firearm out there that you’re comfortable being shot with, please show me which one it is,” he asked rhetorically.
Lamberth probably thought the question he asked the protesters was deep and Socratic, but it came across as heartless ― especially when accompanied by a shrug.
“So you’re not going to like my answer, and, look, I’m going to say that straight up,” Lamberth warned. “It’s not about this one gun.”

How is that legal? Wouldn’t there have to be a recall election?

Let’s not overlook what happened in Florida. They were sitting in their protest and were arrested.
I may not be a fan of protests but people have that right. Especially if it’s peaceful.

It IS about that one gun style to protect kids. A pistol can kill kids, but the AR-15 type guns can take out a large group in seconds. A pistol might get 2-3..Not a room full AR-15 guns are weapons of war DESIGNED to distort flesh and bones as well as to kill the enemy.
Hunters don't use AR-15 type guns to kill for food. High capacity ammo mutilates flesh and bones, no good for dinner on the table.

It’s like a DeSantis move. These snowflakes can’t handle a difference of opinion.
By the way, that protest by the students was great. They’re not buying what the NRA is selling. I wish that there had been more widespread coverage of this, and less of the Orange Hobgoblin in his limo.

Section of the Tennessee Constitution allowing legislators to join constituients' protests.. That's what I was wondering about. Like, I know when I worked for city government that I had severe restrictions on things like posting political signs or bumper stickers, and probably some other things, too. It's been a long time so I don't really remember. But this sure sounds like they are allowed to do this. I guess the only other question I could think of is if there was a problem since they entered the building - was that considered trespass, for example? I mean, we all know this attempt at their removal is politically motivated BS, I'm just trying to understand the angle they are possibly taking. ETA - I guess it's the angle that they (legislators) were participating in disrupting the business of the leg with unruly behavior against the accepted codes. Again, BS.

HOW IS IT OK FOR HIM TO REMAIN IN THEIR LEG BUT PEACEFUL PROTESTORS ARE (POTENTIALLY) NOT? I am officially Pea livid, and although that term is kind of a joke, I'm using it to express how disgusted and horrified and angry this makes me.

Meanwhile back to this story.
From the story…
”Yells rang out through the state Capitol as Tennessee House Republicans on Monday introduced resolutions to expel three Democrats for "disorderly behavior" after the trio led protest chants for gun reform on the floor of the chamber last week in the wake of the deadly Covenant School shooting.”
“The expulsion resolutions claim the three "did knowingly and intentionally bring disorder and dishonor to the House of Representatives through their individual and collective actions.". Me: Well one could make a very strong case that the Republicans behavior when comes to gun safety could be seen as “intentionally bringing dishonor to any House of Representatives “.
&
”Final votes to expel the three members will occur Thursday. Johnson, Jones, and Pearson will have an opportunity to defend their actions during that session.”

In the meantime, Sheryl Crow's once singing buddy Kid Rock just shot up a bunch of beer bc they had the audacity to have a rainbow on it. I hope she yanks her song/their duet from the catalog or donates a bunch of money in his name.

Interesting what Rep Gloria Johnson has to say as she faces an expulsion vote tomorrow. Who's running the circus that is the TN legislature?

Yes, the day after that school was shot up my tone deaf sister who lives in TN posted on Facebook that guns don’t kill, people do. 🙄 And she’s the one that belongs to a Bible thumping cult church. You just can’t make this shit up. ☹️

Maybe now that Trump has been indicted, national media will move on from showing video of his plane taking off, landing and unloading luggage.

I am so proud of those kids!!
On a side note -- I heard a great comeback for the "guns aren't the problem, people are" -- the retort was "then lets take guns away from the problem".

I've been watching is all unfural on TikTok since it started and it was maddening it wasn't hitting the major news outlets!
Any Tennesseans on board who can chime in? I'm so proud of those kids for standing up, enough is enough MG.
That one lawmaker who asked them 'which gun would you rather be shot with' just made my blood boil. Funny, all those assholes needed police escort to get into their buildings..what scared of a bunch of unarmed kids? Can you imagine how the KIDS feel knowing you just passed (or trying to?) allow anyone, any age to carry without any sort of vetting.
It just mindblowing. I feel so bad for the sane people who live there and are trying to do something to stop the madness. Praying it all goes well in the end.

I typically drink Micelob Ultra, and I don't really need any beer right now, but I might have to go out and buy my some rainbow Bud Light just to show support.
