Would you mind answering a few questions for me?
What time do you work out? What/how much do you eat before you workout? How long before your work out do you eat?
I have started working out recently and am trying to fine tune what/when/how much I should eat before hand.
Thank you!!!!

I go to Zumba twice a week from 9 - 10 am. I eat a huge bowl of Raisin Bran Crunch at about 7:50. When I say huge, I'm guessing it's twice the size most people eat.

I'm interested to know the answers to your question too. I've recently started working out. I'm working out at 9 am this summer during my summer break. I usually get up at 7:00. If I eat, it sits in my stomach like a rock, so I haven't been eating before I go, just drinking a lot of water. I've tried protein bars, Greek yogurt, and a banana.

I run in the evening, usually around 8pm or so. Dinner is typically between 5 and 6, and I try not to eat after I run.

Before I worked I always worked out in the morning (usually running or a step class or both) and I ate nothing or maybe something like an egg or a banana.
now I work out in the evening -- usually a long hilly walk, or weights and stretching in front of the TV. I don't really pay attention to when or how much I eat...but in general I eat a very light dinner so I don't really have a full stomach or anything.

What time do you work out? What/how much do you eat before you workout? How long before your work out do you eat? Right now I'm working out on Monday, Wednesday, and Friday at noon. I'm doing circuit training. One day I had a brunch date at 10:30 before my workout, and that did not work well at all! But I have also found that I don't do well on an empty stomach. Usually I don't get up until about 10:30 on workout days, and will have a couple of pieces of toast and some hot tea for breakfast right after I get up.

I workout when i am angry, happy, and all emotions in between. I have the urge to go and workout so that is nice. I get fidgety and that's when I know I have to go to the gym.
I used to go at 1 pm. Now I go whenever. I also do yoga 2x week. Love that too. But mostly treadmill and weights. Sometimes the bike if need be.

I like to workout late morning/early afternoon. I eat about an hour before I go, and again when I get home. I usually workout 1 1/2- 2 hours.

I usually eat lunch or dinner before I go workout. It's not like I am running 10 miles or anything. I am just walking on a treadmill or doing yoga.
If you are like me and do yoga and are just starting out you might want to sit on the toilet for about 5 min 30 min before class to get rid of gas. LOL.

I work out in the late afternoon, usually about 4:00. I've tried the morning but just wound up feeling crappy the rest of the day when I did that. I have a small snack about 2 hours before I work out. If I eat any closer, my GERD really acts up.

I wish I were a morning workout person. I get to the gym at 8 am and turn around and go home. Tonight I couldn't get there fast enough at 6:45. I mean I wanted to be there and was very happy about it. Mornings just don't work for me.

We, my husband and kids, usually try to eat an hour before we workout. The trainer DH and DS had told them to not workout on an empty stomach.

When I had a trainer, he wanted me to have protein before and after the workout. So I would have an egg or something with peanut butter before and after. I ate a small amount so I wouldn't feel too stuffed. I would eat around 7:30-8:00am and workout around 9am. Trying to get back on track now that my son is 5 months and we've moved.

I work out daily. I have breakfast about an hour before I start my workout. Breakfast is a bowl of Cheerios and milk. When I get done I have a banana.

I don't have a set workout schedule as it changes depending on what's going on that week. But in general, I never eat before early morning workouts - just coffee. If I'm running or attending a class in the evenings, I'll go lighter on dinner. The more intense the workout (Tabata, boot camp, etc), the less I can have on my stomach.

I work out over the lunch hour. I eat a very light lunch (usually a couple of pieces of string cheese and a few whole grain crackers) about 20 minutes before I start.

My workout times vary depending on my schedule. I do cardio and strength training with weights. I usually eat a protein bar or drink a protein shake on my way to the gym.

I work out in the afternoon, usually 3ish. During the school year, DS and I go after he comes home from school. I am not a morning workout person and never have been. I eat a regular lunch at 12, and then have a snack after.

During the school year, I work out beginning between 3:30 - 4:30 on school days, and around 8AM on weekends. I try to have a small snack in the afternoon about 1:30 PM if I can, but it doesn't always happen. (Snack = babybel cheese and a handful of almonds or a greek yogurt). I can't eat right before I work out at all or I'll get heartburn. On the weekend, I sometimes have a small bowl of cereal with almond milk at about 7AM, but that sometimes even bothers me, so I don't always eat before the AM workout on the weekends.
After I do weights, I have a protein shake when I get home per the advice of my trainer, and then fix dinner.

I workout at 10am M-W-F and 8:40pm Tu/Th.
My blood sugar tends to be very low and I am low on iron, so eating before my morning classes can be tricky. I never have coffee before those classes and I found I need to eat my breakfast no earlier than 9:15 or else I process it too fast and do not have enough to sustain me through my very high intensity workouts (I do Krav Cardio & boxing). My two favorite breakfasts are either a Greek yogurt (Fage, with the fruit on the side), with berries and granola on top. Or I take two pieces of bread or toast, spread organic, raw creamed honey on top (so delish!) and top with sliced strawberries. I need the extra sugar and it tastes so good! I start my water with breakfast on those mornings too, so I will be properly hydrated.

I usually run around 5-6 a.m. I don't eat before I run. Usually I try to eat within an hour after I run, consisting of a high protein plant-based diet.

Wow, for those of you who can workout on an empty stomach especially in the morning. I have to eat something or I feel sick. I think it just depends on what works for you. OP. ![:)](//storage.proboards.com/5645536/images/MNrJDkDuSwqIMVw33MdD.jpg)

I don't know if I'm the one with the right answer since I don't follow the "eat breakfast" rule. But I have lost 50 pounds since starting last Aug/Sept so I must be doing something right.
I go to the gym almost every morning several hours after waking. I do around an hour of cardio on the machines and then work on weights on some days. I only have coffee but it I do have it with sugar and milk. I make that my breakfast. If I do eat something before, it's small like a small piece of bread with a little peanut butter. I'll have more coffee afterwards and eat something small - a protein bar if I did the weights.
I also take an hour walk after dinner on most nights. That will curb my late night snacking.
Are you trying to lose weight or to get into shape?

I work out in the morning, and don't eat beforehand. I usually eat within an hour after working out. If I'm doing a long run and really need to eat before hand, I'll have protein bar or something.

I run in the morning (6 - 7 am in the summer, later in the winter) three times a week and can't eat or drink anything before I run because it makes me feel sick. I eat within an hour after - what I eat depends on how far I went. I do bodyweight strength training three mornings a week and I can usually tolerate something light an hour or two before that, but usually just wait to eat until I'm done.

I try to eat before a workout, but if it means me getting up an extra hour earlier just to eat before I work out, it's not happening.

Thank you all so much for your responses, I really appreciate it! I am going to try to shift my sessions to morning due to starting a job in the fall and that's when I'll have to go to the gym, mornings. I'm not a morning gym person at this point, hopefully that changes. I think I'm going to need a little something before hand and I'm getting some good ideas of things to try.

During the week and whether I'm working in the office or at home, I'll work out on during my lunchtime or after work. On the weekends, it depends. I usually get enough exercise from gardening or biking that I don't worry too much about getting a workout in.
I usually try and grab a banana or a nutrigrain bar before a workout.
