I only lied about my age back when I was underage and trying to get into a club.

No I don't, I'm very open about the fact that I'm *cough* 25. C'mon...we all know you're 28! busted.

I lie about it... im 38 to everyone who asks!!!
I lie so much my kids don't even know how old i really am...
My mom n dh are the only ones who know.. and they will correct me everytime... and quite frankly that pisses me off... like it is not hurting anybody to say im 38.. i am OBVIOUSLY NOT!!!! but it shouldn't matter "if age is just a number" then leave me alone and let me say whatever number i want!!!
Ummm but nooo i don't have a sensitivity towards it... lmao

I'm 62 and not ashamed to admit it. Age is truly just a number.
My former MIL lied about her age her whole life. In fact, she altered her paper birth certificate to fool husband number three into not knowing how much older she was than him. Somehow that got to be her "official" age on employment documents. Then when she turned 62, she had a hard time unraveling all her deceit because she wanted her Social Security darn it.

I think lying or hiding your age is kind of silly. Like, who cares.

Not sensitive at all. I've embraced every year because too many people I knew and loved were denied the privilege.
My mother-in-law would always tell this story about a nosy person asking her how old she was: She asked the person if she could keep a secret. The friend answered YES so my MIL leaned in and whispered *So can I*!

No. There’s no point…unless it’s some internet site that asks, but it’s none of their business. I’m that case, I just make up a birthday.

Nah. I admit turning 50 hit me hard this year, but I'm not hiding it from anyone.

I’ve never lied about my age (except when I was underage and trying to drink). But I always say if you’re going to lie why wouldn’t you say you were older than you are so people will think you look great for your age instead of saying you’re younger and having people think you look like shit?

I've never lied about my age (66). No shame in getting older - and it beats the alternative! Most of my friends are this way as well, except for one who just turned 65. She was mortified when her DDs both posted on FB wishing her a happy 65th, including photos of the family cake with the #65 candles on top! It did seem to be more common with the much older generation though. A friend's mother died a few years ago and they were not really positive what her age was, just somewhere in her early 90s. Apparently when she filled out her citizenship papers many moons ago (she was Mexican by birth) she fudged her age by a couple of years (easier to do back in the late 1940s). Friend had met several of mom's boarding school friends over the years and said it's amazing how they are all 2-3 years older than mom!

My age and sharing it has never bothered me. Though, I did spend 2 years at the age of 37. Only realized it a few months before my 37th birthday.

I always have to do the math to figure it out (I'm 44). Sometime past age 40 I started forgetting my age and it's just been like that ever since. When I was pre-21yo I definitely lied (and flirted) to get into the clubs.

I just turned 60. I only lie about my age to my students. I let them guess and never tell them.

I am not afraid to get older, so no. I don't lie about my age. I am the youngest of my close friend group, so I do wonder if that is why I don't mind my age so much?

When I was pre-21yo I definitely lied (and flirted) to get into the clubs. Same. I turned 40 during covid and it has really thrown me off on exactly how old I am. I have a twin and I count on him to correct me when I get it wrong. lol

No, but I do have to stop and figure it out most times…or I just say the year I was born and they can do the math. It obviously doesn’t matter enough that I can keep the exact number straight (in my mind).

I have never lied about my age.
My mom is 88. She goes to a quilting group with a bunch of old ladies. There’s one lady who is 85 and she thinks she’s the oldest one there. My mom she just lets her keep thinking that.

this thread reminds me of my Great Aunt - she never told anyone her age and she made her kids promise not to put it in her obituary. Alas they didn't listen and everyone knew she was 91 when she died

No, I never lie - but like many of you, in the last couple of years I have to think a minute to remember my age. I spent most of the last year thinking I was 53, but a month or so ago realized I'm actually 54, about to turn 55.

When my mom turned 38, she started telling people she was 40. I was scandalized (I was all of 13 at the time). She said it was just easier to remember. Now I do the same damn thing. I’m turning 70 later this year. I’ve been calling myself 70 for two years now. Of course, I look younger. I told someone I was 50 the other day and the friend who was with me corrected me and said "you are not! You are 49." And she was genuinely horrified. I am 6 weeks away from that birthday but I guess it's an elite club that I'm not eligible for yet?

My age (66) doesn't bother me. What DOES bother me is when people ask when I'm going to retire then act horrified when I say I have no plans to retire. I like my work and (for the most part) the people I work with. You do your thing and I'll do mine.

Nope. Will be 50 in October and have gone through he77 to get here and on more than one occasion almost wasn't here. And lost my husband when he was 35, so I fully understand the alternative.

The worst part of getting older? When I have to input my birthyear online and I have to scroll forever to get to 1948!

I couldn’t give a hoot who knows my age but I do sometimes forget what it is and have to work it out. I didn’t need to lie as a teen getting into pubs and age restricted films because I was never asked. Must have looked haggered even then. Now, ask me my weight and I’ll tell you to mind your own business!

I have a few friends who were born the same year as me but both early in the year while I was born late in the year. Sometimes I'll say I'm 46 because they're 46 now but I still have a few months to go before I'm 46.
DH is several years younger than me. Some people have assumed I'm the same age. I don't always correct them.
But if asked, I'll give my age. I did have a times where I forgot what month it is and have gone up or down a number, usually up because of above mentioned friends.

I would never lie about my age and don't see a reason to ever do so. I am happy to be able to grow older...that said, although I am not overly sensitive, I have moments where I am not super excited to say my age, 50. I know it puts in an "old" category, whether I feel that way about myself or not...it changes how some people see you.

My mother used to say, "I want credit for all the years I have lived."
I have not lied about my age, but I hate telling people the actual number after I turned 70. I feel like the reaction from others that there is a great deal of difference between 60 and 70 (or 80).

Just a number to me. I'm 2 years older than my cousin. When she turned 30 as well as 40 it was total melt down for her. I on the other hand could care less. If I give the wrong age it's because I really do forget how old I am.
