I was at the doctor today, and there were about 3 other people in the waiting room as well. An older lady came in, with white hair and she had quite a wrinkly face (this is relevant. It's not a judgment!), if I had to guess I'd say she was somewhere 70-80 years old. The receptionist asked her to confirm her name, and then the lady said "please don't ask me to call out my birthdate in front of all these people!". It made me ponder about still being sensitive about your she...even at that age. My mother has always been like this, and I'll bet she still lies about it now too. I'm the opposite, I have no issue telling anyone how old I am and getting older has honestly never bothered me (apart from the medical issues that come with it) So fess up...are you sensitive about your age...and do you tell people little lies, or change the subject when people ask? and if you write..."I'm 57 but people tell me I look 10 years younger", then that automatically puts you in the "I'm sensitive about my age" category

As long as I keep getting older, I don't care.

I tell people the wrong age sometimes but it's usually a year or two older because I forget 😅

I tell people the wrong age sometimes but it's usually a year or two older because I forget 😅 Yeah, there is that, lol. Except I was recently making myself older by a year! DH is 1.5 years younger than I am, so sometimes I forget if we are on the part of the year where he's 1 year younger or 2 years younger!

When I was younger I was sensitive about my age but I am not really sure why. Now that I am 57 I don't give a damn who knows or who asks.

I’ve never lied about my age or had a problem with it. It’s just not something I am sensitive about.

I have never cared to tell my age, but it might not have been that she didn't what the world to know how old she was, but that is pertinent info for somone to use towards fraud. I have often thought about all the info I have overhead in waiting areas and thought surely in this day and age, there is a better way of gathering personal info that telling everyone in the waiting area.

age is just a number...and getting older is better than the alternative.
I'm 52 and see no point in lying about it.
My mum was "39" for years and my older sister seems to have misplaced 10 years on FB...

Never in my life. I have never lied to pretend to be older, nor lied to pretend to be younger.
I view not wanting people to know your age as something that women in generations previous to mine tended to be more concerned about. That's based on absolutely nothing more scientific than the older generation of women in my family--and even then it was only some of them.
But my gosh, some of them are so adamant that others not know their ages---even as early as their 30s that I think it's actually the reason that I've always been 100% happy to blab my age all over the place.
(When I was younger, I was one of the tallest kids in my grade right up until high school, and I developed earlier as well, so back then, people automatically assumed I was older. So I never had to do anything to appear older, but instead sometimes had to correct people---say if trying to buy admission for something.)

I don’t, no. In fact I find that more often the older people are, the more likely they are to announce their age to anyone who is within earshot. My Mum in law is 90 and somehow that fact inserts its way into almost every conversation she has.
Maybe I’ll get like it, who knows!

I’ve never considered lying about my age.
Regarding those who do - I wonder if when they were younger they were the type to judge or look down on people who were older. Like now that they’re there, they’re embarrassed about their age?

Nope! I'm 62 and I tell people that. I'd rather they say "wow, you look young for 62," than think "no way is she only 55" in their head.

No, I don't care who knows my age. Funny story--when my oldest was 6, he asked me how I got older than grandma (my mother). I said I'm not, I'm 31. He then said yes, you are older than grandma, she is only 29. I explained to him that grandma was just kidding saying that.

I have never lied about my age ... I turn 56 in six days ...
Genetics have been kind to me and everyone says I look younger but I wouldn't lie even if I didn't!

No - I'm 65 and have no problem admitting that. I'm thankful for every birthday I see, every new day for that matter. I'm also not offended when I'm offered a senior discount. I will say I was a bit put out when I received the local cemetery brochure encouraging me to plan for the "future".

I just reminded myself about a friend of mine...I met her through work and I knew she was a few years older than me, but I didn't really think about it. Then one time we were doing something online and we had to fill in our DOB she made me cover my eyes so I couldn't see what she typed!

I don’t anymore, but maybe until up to about 10 years ago I used to. I am Asian, we tend to look younger than we are. I never used to correct people who thought I was years younger than I actually was because I hated hearing “No, no way”, and then them making a big deal about it. I just went along with whatever age they thought I was. I was embarrassed by the fuss. Introvert problem. 😁 But, now I will correct them and tell them my true age.

No I don’t. I have a funny story about people lying about their age though. I had a great aunt who was very vain. At one point she was willing to admit to being 80 years old. My grandmother said, “I went to her 80th birthday party 5 years ago! Who does she think she’s fooling?”

I'm 51 and honest about it. I'm much happier and care less about what people think than I did several years ago. For me middle age is awesome. No desire to lie about it.
ETA I have never at any point lied about it, I don't see the point.

My mother, who is 80, has been like this as long as I can remember. She didn't want her birthday even mentioned and hates telling people her age. I imagine there is some socialization women of that generation received to the effect that aging women lose worth.
Me? I tell people how old I am, no problem. I'm happy to be here and feeling good!

When my mom turned 38, she started telling people she was 40. I was scandalized (I was all of 13 at the time). She said it was just easier to remember. Now I do the same damn thing. I’m turning 70 later this year. I’ve been calling myself 70 for two years now. Of course, I look younger.
