The graduation gift post got me thinking, what makes them all that? I haven’t worn a watch in years. I have my phone with me always. Why should I consider an Apple Watch?

Can tell me I have a text from anywhere in the house (without carrying my phone around) or in the yard
let's me set my camera across the room and take a photo (and creep out my kids)
the other thing I use all the time is the timer/stopwatch
Oh and I guess it tracks my exercise too...

Here are some of the ways I use my Apple Watch:
- Receive notifications without having to take out my phone.
- Read text messages without having to take out my phone.
- It tracks how many steps/miles I walk.
- I use the shutter button to take pictures on my phone, good for group shots and selfies.
- It has a heart monitor.
- Control the music I listen to.
The watch has apps on it, so you can do a lot of things that you can do on your phone without having to take your phone out of your purse/pocket.

I love gadgets, but I just can't pull the trigger on the apple watch yet.
I hate wearing watches or jewelry. So I think I would probably hate wearing the apple watch too. But I also think it would be so cool to have!

My dh is a runner... and it was always just a nifty piece of equipment for exercising... heart monitor.. stress levels... steps...
BUT!!!! a few weeks ago he was running out on an irrigation canal... he tripped and fell pretty hard... banged his head on the ground... his watch said detected a hard fall.. is help needed?.. and he didnt respond cuz he was trying to catch his breath and collect himself... it beeped at him again and then it dialed 911... he realized his watch was going crazy... he caught the 911 call and explained to the person that he would be ok.. didnt need an ambulance or helicopter (we live in the country)...
So that was pretty awesome we thought... because he runs a lot...and its reassuring to know he would get help if something happened

All of the above. I  my Apple watch!!! I didn't think I needed one (and, okay, who really NEEDS one...) until one day a friend and I were running to catch the subway. He tapped thru the turnstile with his watch... He didn't even slow down. That was it for me! I got one a few months later, and I've never looked back. |

omg I totally forgot about the shutter feature to take pictures! I've been missing out on that one!
I was a long time hold out on the apple watch too, figured I had a phone why did I need one. Now i'm a total convert. Biggest thing for me is that I always have my phone on silent, because I hate the noises it makes. But I missed a lot of calls that way. Now I always know when my phone is ringing or when a text comes in. I use the fitness tracker also, and the time function, and siri. And I like that I can keep the time for where my dd lives on my watch also, so that I don't have to keep calculating the time difference
I'm not a watch wearer usually, and years back I broke that wrist so usually they were uncomfortable for me. But I find the silicon bands comfy to wear

I am definitely underusing my watch. kate how do you do that turnstile trick? I have no idea how to use Apple Wallet. It's set up, I see people tapping their watches at the coffee shop, but I try and nothing happens 🤣🤣 |

The main thing for me is Apple Pay. I use my watch to pay for everything.
I also leave my phone in my handbag when I’m out so I can see any notifications on my watch

It's set up, I see people tapping their watches at the coffee shop, but I try and nothing happens 🤣🤣 You have to load your credit/debit card info into Apple wallet to tap and pay. You can also load other types of cards, like a turnstile pass, into Apple wallet. You go into your wallet, pick the card you want to use, double click the power button on your phone, then tap. My Apple Card is my default card, so I just double click the power button and tap. Similar procedure for the watch. |

The feature I love most is the ability to "ping" my phone to find where the heck I put it down. This right here is worth the price of the watch! hahaha I have the lowest price one and it still does everything that everyone has mentioned here. I'm actually not sure what the extra features are in the higher priced one. The main thing for me (besides pinging my missing phone  ) is keeping track of my exercise, calories, and standing. It gives you monthly challenges which is just the little shove I often need to get moving. You get badges for completing those, as well as for other challenges that appear for any holiday or commemoration day. I also like the way it taps my wrist when it's time to turn while Siri is giving me directions. It was often unclear to me (with my lack of any sense of direction) when it was time to turn if Siri had said "in 200 feet turn left". hahahaha As if I know what 200 feet actually is.  With the wrist tap thing there is no doubt where to turn. That's probably all I use it for regularly. I have used the remote feature to take a group photo with my phone placed on top of something. I'm terrible at selfies so this works better for me. I haven't used the tap/pay feature because I go out so infrequently. lol. For the rare times that I take the subway I do tap my phone (my dd taught me how to load my Metro card on there, lol) so maybe I could do it with my watch also. If I rode the subway every day I'd probably learn how to do it because it would be easier. And for those of you who said you don't like anything on your wrist... well that's me! I never wear bracelets and haven't ever worn a watch except way back in the Dark Ages before cell phones. But, this Apple Watch is totally comfortable. Not sure what the band is made of but it's great. The only time it irritates me is if I've been walking in the hot weather and my wrist is sweating underneath the band. Then I just take it off until I cool down. And of course the last thing that's important for me is that it's an Apple product, which comes with their customer service. I will pay more for a product when I know I can just go over to the Apple Store and the Genius Bar folks will wave their magic wand to fix whatever the problem is. This is worth every penny to me. I once had a problem with my previous Apple watch, it wouldn't take the new update. So I went over to the store and the Genius did a few things and boom, there it was updating. I commented about how I'd tried and failed at home, and she said "oh, they often just know when they're home [at the store] and they sit up and behave." hahaha My ds teases me about being so passionate about my Apple devices, but he can take his smug Android self away from my Apples. lol. And anyway, he can use a PC because he knows technology and can fix most things on his PC without needing a service person. lol |

Count me as another one who didn't think I needed it until I got it.
It started when my mom was alive and I kept missing her phone calls as I would turn my phone to silent at work, then forget about it when I got home. Missed 2 instances where it was an emergency and I needed to respond. That coupled with we had a kid coming home off the bus by herself and I needed to be able to know if someone needed me.
Flash forward to my I think third watch and I could not live without it. Pinging my phone with it, knowing when I get a text message if I need to respond ASAP, having an extra alarm on my wrist in the morning, and just looking at it to know the time.
I refuse to set up apple pay, but that's just me being stubborn.

I don't like having my phone on silent so the nice thing about the Apple Watch is when you are in close proximity to your phone and have the watch on the phone will not ring and the watch will buzz me instead. So I get the silent feature without having to turn my phone on silent (and then forget to change it back like after church or during a meeting). I'm also on board for many of the other reasons already listed I can answer my watch if I'm not in my office when it rings remote camera option health monitoring (I don't even utilize all of these functions - mainly just my steps - it is a great motivator to close the rings!) |

Like if you had it off to charge it, shower, etc. So if a stranger steals your watch they can't unlock it. On the watch to pay you just tap the side button 2 times fast, scroll to the card you want to use. |

I sleep in my watch and when my alarm goes off in the morning, it vibrates my watch instead of making noise. I can set an early alarm and hit snooze 100 times without bothering my husband.  |

Everything that has been mentioned! When it came time to replace mine, I really debated. It was an expense I really couldn't afford. But I love that I can use it instead of an alarm. I have an alarm set 3 minutes before each period ends to tell the students to clean up. Steps tracking, although the phone will do this too but I also like the stand feature. The tip feature of the calculator is neat.
I haven't had to use the fall detection, thank goodness, but I love that it has that as I live alone. I debated getting another piece of jewelry to do that but my mom got one and returned it because it kept sending me a message every time she tried to put it on.
But far and away is the ability to find my stupid phone with the ping!

I only wear earrings but I love my watch. It tells me when I have been sitting too long and I need to get up and move around. I want to believe this helps my back and hips. We are an Apple family. |

Mine can receive calls. I like to turn the face towards my wrist and pretend I’m an FBI guy. (You know how they talk into their wrists when they are out on assignment). Trust me, it’s hilarious…makes me laugh every time…

I only have one card loaded, so I don't have to scroll through payment options. I just double click, and BOOM through the turnstile I go! I have also been known to BOOM through the checkout at the wine store on a whim...  The silent notifications are another favorite feature. My phone is permanently on Silent Mode, and it's great not to miss notifications, as others have said. My question for y'all is this: Does anyone find it worthwhile to have a watch with cell service? Mine works on wifi and needs to have my phone nearby. I haven't minded that at all, but I wonder if I'm missing out on anything fabulous. I'm not eager to pay the fee for an extra device on my cell plan, which is why I elected the wifi watch.

I know some people do things without their phone around, like go jogging, and cell service comes in handy. But, I always have my phone nearby. |

I have the one without cell service because I don’t want the bill but there have been times that I’ve forgotten my phone and wished I had it. I think if I were to buy one now I’d spring for that.
