I just decided to fill the board up with questions. It has been going really slow lately. Darn you people who have lives. Also, lurkers, time to join in. Scrapping has gone through a lot of trends. A lot. It used to be every collection included this embellishment, and that embellishment, and then they were gone. And sometimes they come back. Like rub-ons were everywhere at one time and then they totally disappeared. And now 49 & Market and a couple other manufacturers have brought them back. My old school supply that keeps showing up on my pages? Wood shapes. Wood was everywhere. I think Studio Calico drove that trend. I resisted it for a long time because of the lignin, and then I realized people are probably going to throw my scrapbooks out when I die, so I gave in. The heck with archival. I don't see it used anymore but I love using it on my pages. I have a big stash from wood's heyday, but I also still buy it from Shadnee on Etsy. She has so many awesome shapes. Now on top of wood stars and hearts I have little wood beer bottles and game controllers. Do you have any not-currently-trendy items that appear on your pages? Are you still working through your Prima flowers, for example?

I have a scary amount of old products that I pull out for different purposes. In the last few years I have pulled out:
1. Old HS giant flowers and ghost shapes - probably from the early 2000 2. Last week I used OLD American Craft Alpha Rub ons from the 2000s. They came in tall folder over "books" and I have kept them all and use them periodically. 3. I used up a bunch of prima flowers from the days they came in bottles on some drill team albums in which I made mini "mums" 4. I have a stash of old KI Memories, OA, Basic Grey, etc papers that I pull out occasionally 5. I keep some older dec daily stuff around to use each year.

I'll use whatever I think'll work with the photos I'm scrapping - whether it's super old from when I first started scrapping (looking at the CADD page topper I used recently) or not. I just acquired a TON of old supplies that look to be 2006-2010ish - mostly papers but a few embelishments (DH bought me three Recollections cubes at an indoor flea market and the contents were included) and they are NEW to me and I'm happy to use them. Earlier in the year he found a bunch of old alpha stickers (MM and Frances Meyer mostly) for a dime a piece and those are ending up on layouts as well. I also have old Club Scrap alphas from 2003 ish I think that I still use. I'm not a trendy scrapper so using the newest and greatest isn't my thing really. oh and I'm also still using my QK hand tool (my Epic Six is on DH's workbench as the handle came off) and my Cricut Expression/SCAL2 as well as a lovely collection of Cricut cartridges that nylene passed along - she's so sweet and generous.

I still have my Baby Bug (Cricut) from around 2010 because I have two cartridges I haven't found a suitable replacement for on the Silhouette store (one is a font, one is a theme.) Not that I use the stupid thing that much, but I can't make myself get rid of it either...
I still use border punches.

I started card making almost 40 years ago when I was a young mom. I started scrapbooking in 1996 when my youngest was 3. When we moved halfway across the country, I moved nearly all of my stash with me, old and new. I’m glad that I did. I have no LSS near me. No stamp store. Just the big box craft stores.
I use whatever seems to work for my project. I don’t care if it’s old and no longer trendy. If it works, I use it. I also have learned to evaluate the trends, and I only incorporate what I like of the current trends (assuming I am even aware of them). Now I only buy what I genuinely like, because I’ve seen a lot of trends that I didn’t like that much, but because I was teaching at the LSS, I had to do trendy layouts. Those once trendy layouts are typically the ones that I want to do over now, but I don’t have time.
I have some really old and really cute (printed) page titles and can’t seem to part with them. I can’t remember the name of the company that made them. I can’t figure out what to do with them, because they aren’t my style anymore, but they are too cute to toss. Maybe I’ll use them for grandkid pages.

CADD and MME made a lot of cute printed titles back in the late 1990s/early 2000s

I recently used buttons and border punches on a page. I have a whole cropper hopper embellishment box full of buttons, brads & eyelets so I'm trying to use some of them.
I have tons of older paper too that I try to work in when I can.

I didn't realize that border punches were old school! I still use mine fairly regularly. I also use the wood veneer shapes pretty regularly.
Recently I have been trying to work my way through some old papers that had an entire layout printed on them, and you were just supposed to add your photos. I've been cutting them apart, adding in some more current papers and layering them up to try to make a dent in them.
I have also recently inherited a fun box of metal embellishments that I want to try to make use of on my pages. Bring on the brads and eyelets!

Not old school, just old...Thickers. I really loaded up when you could get them at Tuesday Morning. I just make sure to add a little adhesive to them.
I have a couple of different scrapping styles - one is probably considered old school. Circa 2007.

I am still using the CM corner rounder and circle cutting system.
Used some Little Yellow Bicycle paper the other day.
I think I have finally used up the Sasafras Lass pretty shaped branding strips, but still pull out the Bazzill “just the edge” strips occasionally.

I have a lot of older now discontinued products or brands, because if I loved something I bought multiple of it. I have also found some of it on ebay or etsy.
I love frames, so I have a lot of frames. O'scrap, my minds eye, homemade >> meaning...back in the day I bought the paper and used the scrapbook stores die cut machines to make them.

I was cleaning out some shelves in my scrapbook room and came across a few sheets of mulberry paper. I think I last used it for a really cute 1st grade picture of my daughter... who is now 27 and married! I used to love to wet the edges and kind of shred it so that it looked all fluffy-like. I haven't used it yet but I set it in a prominent place on my desk in anticipation. Old, old supply but I still love it!

Are you still working through your Prima flowers, for example? Prima flowers is the first thing that popped into my mind when I read your thread title. I still have jars of Prima flowers from when I used to do traditional paper scrapping. I love them so much! 😍 I also have lots of Prima-style flowers in my digital stash that I still love to use. 🌸 🌼 🌺

I still use a lot of creative memories stuff. My mom was a consultant back in the day, and she gave me a lot of her leftovers. Practically all my alphabet stickers are old CM. I use a lot of the old tools too, like the circle cutter and corner rounder.

I love to use photo corners. They don't come out in many collections these days, except the occasional couple on a sticker sheet. Loved it when Shimelle had some in a couple of her collections. I have plain coloured ones I've bought off Amazon, and will occasionally punch my own.

I have plain coloured ones I've bought off Amazon, and will occasionally punch my own. One of the 49 & Market diecut packages (the travel one) had a bunch in it. I also have ones from NJFB and Shadnee. Do they still sell them in stores? I think with people not printing out photos anymore they might be hard to find. I have some metal ones from Making Memories that I just found. This is a good reminder to get them on a layout soon. They are so cool- it is a shame that I've stored them all these years.

I love photo corners! I started hand cutting my own because I couldn’t find them anywhere. And the metal ones are great, I use them when I make mini albums out of old books. They are perfect for the corners on the cover.

grammadee I still use my CM circles and ovals, too. Not all the time, but every now and then I need a circle bigger than my punches.

When a friend was helping me organize my scrap supplies, she saw an envelope of MME toppers and was so excited when I said she should have them.
I still use mulberry (great for layering on cards without adding bulk), ribbon (can you say addicted?), and Prima (and other flowers). I did toss the flowers that I had pulled off of floral stems from the decorating dept. Remember how it was supposed to save $ because they were just as good as the flowers sold in the SB section? Nope, never liked them.
Felt, I love felt embellishments!

I still use my flowers occasionally. I'll also still use brads, although I doubt I'll buy more any time soon.

I have old Heidi Swapp product I still use from like 2003. Chipboard letters, heart shaped thin chipboard pieces, some acrylic type things.
Border punches! I really like them especially the basic ones. I use my scallop and notebook ones all the time.
I have tiny punches that make shapes. Leaves, Mickey Ears, hearts, stars. I use them as little accents with enamel dots, puffy stickers, etc.
I have a pair of pinking edge deco scissors I still use occasionally. I wish I had this in a border punch, actually.
Bakers twine. I have a bunch, all colors. It’s not as trendy as it was but I still see people use it. I like it on tags especially.
I still have and use my creative memories tools. Corner rounder& circle cutter system get the most use.
I use my 2x2 Quickutz alphas and some of the more basic shapes allll the time. So much quicker for a short title.
I have the OG Perfect Layers from when it debuted on QVC in the early 2000’s. Still love and use it for perfect photo mats. I really only tend to use one of the sizes to get a nice white border if I didn’t print my pics with one. But still. I use it a lot.

I’m a purger, so I have very little paper product that is really old. I think I have one really old (15+ yo) piece of 12x12 paper. I do have two really old tools. A circle cutter from CM. It’s a piece of glass with a sort of compass blade assembly. I also have an old paper crimper. I also have some old punches.

Yes. Indicative of my linear style, my first/oldest/most frequently-used/favorite tool is an inexpensive, clear, t-square ruler! I also routinely use Quickutz/Lifestyle Crafts (metal) dies & incorporate patterned paper & versatile embellishments from defunct manufacturers (e.g. Chatterbox, KI Memories, Jenni Bowlin, October Afternoon) into my layouts because I find them more creative/versatile/usable/unique & less themed/repetitive than most current releases.

I'm not always great at reaching back into older items in my stash, but I do use my border punches, scalloped deco scissors, and CM circle cutters on a fairly regular basis. I used a shaped paper recently and am looking for opportunities to use more of them.
Mostly what I'm getting from this thread though is a list of things I should really pull out and use.

I use pretty much everything if it fits my page theme.
Old die cut type titles, paper, ribbon, twine, stickers of any kind, gems, brads, but not really eyelets because my setter is buried someplace.
There are things I still have that I pass by many times, but it remains in my stash just in case.

I thought of another one: pocket cards with rounded corners. If the colour/pattern works, I'll use it.

I have been scrapbooking since the late 90's, I feel like my stash is a museum of modern scrapbooking. The CADD page toppers mentioned above... Funny thing is I have layouts I have spent weeks on, but the layout I get the most complimented on when people look at my scrapbooks is a layout that only took about 15 minutes using a CADD page topper and the matching diecuts. The kid in the page topper & diecut was wearing similar clothes and had a similar expression as my daughter in the photos and it just *worked*. So I don't care how old something is, if it matches my photos I use it.

Burlap! I recently found some in my stash, and it will be perfect for some backyard BBQ layouts I’m doing. I just need to pick up some fresh acrylic paint to stamp on the burlap.
