Hi Peas,
My friend is in a group text with her cousins and some siblings. There are a few people in the group who have been absolutely horrible to her.
So she really wants to leave the group, she has not mentioned how horribly she has been treated. What would you do, text the group your leaving, mention why or avoid that drama and just leave, or text the group organizer that you have left the group.
She hates the drama but knowing the group is getting love from the people that hurt her is not good. Why can family be so awful and self serving. I feel so terrible for her.

You just leave. You don’t announce it, you don’t give reasons, you just quietly leave.

I'd just leave the group. No need to explain why to anyone.

I agree, just leave without explanation. If any of the members miss her and text her separately, she can mention that a few people said hurtful things and she decided not to expose herself to it any longer. I wouldn’t go trying to speak to these people unless they contacted her and asked.

You just leave unless you want to ensure that the topic of the group text is you.

If she hates drama, she just leaves. Announcing it creates drama.

Just leave. Would saying something make the situation better? No. So just go.

The only way I know of to leave a group text is to quit reading. On my Android phone, I am not aware of how I could just delete myself.
The remedy is to say, "I am too busy to keep up on this group message, please drop my name out of group texts"---and hope your wish is honored.

I would just leave. Odds are they will figure it out without any explanation.

Just leave...saying anything would most likely amp up the drama.

Thanks everyone - reading your eplies makes the answer seem obvious. You are right, I have suggested that she just leaves the group.

I sure hope no one in the group has an android phone, because I recently tried to take my iPhone self out of a group chat and couldn't do it due to a few members using android phones. All I could do was mute each individual in the group, but I still receive the texts.

Just leave, no announcement.
If someone asks why you left, say "too many unkind participants so I moved on".

If she doesn't want to just leave, she can just say: Hi everyone, I'm leaving the group for now as I'm going on a digital detox and trying to cut down my digital activity. See you in the real world Then post and leave. Don't engage in commentary from others.

I would be aware that in my group texts it does says “XXX has left the chat”. They will know without her announcing it. Not saying she shouldn’t do it, but just to be aware.

I don't do group text. They are the worst, even when it is a good situation. Don't put me in one, unless it is a life emergency. I leave them all.

Just leave the group. It's not a party. It's not an airport. There's no need to announce your departure.
Your friend knows they talk shit about her. Announcing her departure will lead to more drama and gossip. Just leave and block the toxic people.

I hate group text’s because people can’t seem to grasp when it’s time to stop using them. It’s like all the dummies that use “reply all” on emails to say thanks!

On an iPhone, you click on the top where it shows how many people are in the chat. It brings up a screen to make configuration changes and one of them is to “leave the conversation.” I would be surprised if an Android phone doesn’t have a leave option.

She does have a Samsung Android phone and she can not just leave a group text. After some searching we figured out she can mute the notifications so hopefully that will work. Thanks everyone!

I would just exit the chat. If someone reaches out to you, know ahead of time how you will respond. I recently cut ties with a family member who was very toxic and constantly texted to pick a fight with me. My silence made it worse and I did finally have to text her to say that I no longer want to communicate with her. It's been 2 months of no communication and it has been so peaceful. I no longer dread it when I get a text.

I had a group chat that was great until two women were added who I can't stand. I never said anything to the whole group....I just politely asked the organizer to remove me.
