Hi Nope we spend 250 per kid. If that means one gift that's it. They know & we have explained it that Christmas is all about the gift count. They might not like it,but it's what we do & feel comfor table with. Happy Holidays That's' how we feel. Our kids don't care about the # of gifts. They would rather have what they want, then picking little things to get more.

I try to but it doesn't always end that way. My oldest has a birthday end of November and he wanted one thing for Christmas -the PS4 . It was actually more than I intended spending but I know I sent more on my daughter last year so I said yes. Then he asked if he could swap his birthday and Christmas present so now he has much less to open than the other two . He insists he's ok with it but I hate it, especially as I have lots of silly cheapish stocking fillers for my daughter who is so easy to buy for and who's main gift was a third of the price of the PS4 ( a michael kors watch I got at a terrific discount). My youngest son is getting three secondhand main gifts which is a little weird but they are as new ( including an iPhone 5 which he will probably drop with shock!) I have virtually no stocking fillers for him because he can't think of anything he wants this year and he is too old now forthe normal stocking fillers I buy If I don't find inspiration soon Christmas morning is going to be interesting! ETA- I just wanted to say my kids have need appeared disappointed on Christmas morning and always seem really happy. We don't do individual unwrapping though as I wasn't brought up that way. They just dive in. My daughter takes the longest time to unwrap everything to prolong he suspense, my oldest boy just rips the paper off and can't wait to disappear to his games console with his latest games, whilst the youngest tends to open something , get really excited and start using it straight away. Frequently the other two have disappeared with their hoards whist I sm still trying to get him to finish unwrapping!

Well I didn't come out and ask but a lot of others did and the child's mother said "E" wanted it and what she wants she gets". She later explained that its easier for family to call "E" this way when they wanna talk. She said her DD uses hers all to time to call grandparents...idk I didn't think kids that young knew how to dial out like that. Guess times have changed.

That's crazy-stupid.

My kids are 11 and 3. I usually try to get one "big" gift for each, and then 2 or 3 smaller items, plus a couple stocking stuffers. When there is only a few gifts under the tree, I am sure the older would notice if one had 10 gifts and the other only had 2, or whatever! This year the big gift for the 3 year old is a balance bike I got used, off Craigslist, for $20. The 11 year old's big gift is a video game he really wants, which coincidentally also cost $20. In total I think I spent about $70 on everything. They will be happy, but I do dream of the day when I can give them a huge Christmas, it would be so much fun shopping for them with a big budget! Growing up, my parents gave me and my 4 siblings somewhere close to the same number of presents (between 10-20 each) when we were little. The dollar amount greatly differed, but we didn't mind. The only reason I knew how much the gifts costed, was because it was my job to wrap all the presents (not mine, just my siblings). They would still all be in bags with receipts and I would have to remove price stickers, etc. I didn't consciously add up and compare, I just had a good memory. And to this day, I am the best at wrapping gifts! Lol

I'm having this problem this year with my grandsons. One is almost 10 and his little brother is almost 3. I got the 10 year old a $300 gift, but that is all he is getting since it was on his wish list and at 10 he understands the impact of a $300 gift.....I have only spent $200 on his little brother on 1 gift for him. I feel like I need to spend another $100 on him to be equal because I know the difference even though the 3 year old doesn't. Then if I do buy an additional $100 on gifts for the 3 yo, I will feel bad that the 10 year old won't have anything else to open. I have for to know what gift for a 3 year old costs $200? I bought him a Fisher Price Lil' Dune Buggy. I got the 10 year old the Razor go cart and saw the FP one and thought it would be so cute for him to have his own. He loves to go out and play when his big brother goes outside to play and he always wants to do what big brother is doing. Anyway, it actually cost $150 but I had to pay $40 to have it shipped due to the oversized packaging. I could not find it anywhere for any less or free shipping....Walmart had it for a lot less but is completely out of stock and they don't expect any back in stock before xmas. Things Grammies do for their grand babies...

I do not spend the same amount. Some times one gets more spent on them. The older they get the less worried I am about equity.

My parents were really good about spending the same on each of us for Christmas and birthdays. If there were discrepancies, it went into our college fund. That worked out well for us.

Last year, my youngest son told us to skip his big gift (Santa gift) and give his brother his portion of $ so he could get what he really wanted. We did what he asked (and gave him a small gift). I have never heard him mention it since.

Last year DD got a $1300 clarinet as one of her gifts. The boys did not also each get a $1300 gift. gifts are not necessarily equitable on any given day but over the course of their lives, it is. A few months later ODS got a (second-hand) car. YDS wears $230 cleats that get replaced every few months along with a new computer for his birthday. It evens out over time.
