I don't know if he's trying to detract from his indictments, But he's getting even more dangerous and extreme. And demonstrates yet again a lack of understanding of basic economics.

This idea, which Trump has taken to describing as the creation of a “ring around the U.S. economy,” could represent a massive escalation of global economic chaos, surpassing the international trade discord that marked much of his first administration. Trump advisers have for months discussed various potential levels to set the tariff rate, and they said the plan remains a work in progress with major questions left unresolved, the people said.

On Fox Business on Thursday, the former president called for setting this tariff at 10 percent “automatically” for all countries, a move that experts warn could lead to higher prices for consumers throughout the economy and could likely lead to a global trade war.

“I think we should have a ring around the collar” of the U.S. economy, Trump said in an interview with Kudlow on Fox Business on Thursday. “When companies come in and they dump their products in the United States, they should pay,
automatically, let’s say a 10 percent tax … I do like the 10 percent for everybody.”

Economists of both parties said Trump’s tariff proposal is extremely dangerous. Adam Posen, president of the Peterson Institute for International Economics, a Washington think tank, called the idea “lunacy” and “horrifying” and said it would lead the other major economies around the world to conclude the United States cannot be trusted as a trading partner. Although aimed at bolstering domestic production, a 10 percent tariff would hurt the thousands of U.S. firms that depend on imports, while also crippling the thousands of U.S. firms that depend on foreign exports, Posen said.

The United States today imposes an average tariff on imports of just above 3 percent, according to Posen. That number is higher for some countries, with goods coming from China facing an average import duty of 19 percent. “You would be depriving American families of an enormous amount of choice, making their lives much more expensive, and putting millions of people out of work,” Posen said.

Found emails from secret service including time of Jan 6...

Secret Service agents were in close communication with Oath Keepers leader Stewart Rhodes months before the Jan. 6 insurrection he helped plan.

The government watchdog Citizens for Responsibility and Ethics in Washington (CREW) obtained internal Secret Service emails showing an agent sent an email to others within the agency in September 2020 notifying them he had spoken to Rhodes about an upcoming visit by then-president Donald Trump to Fayetteville, North Carolina.

The agent described himself "the unofficial liaison to the Oath Keepers (inching towards official)" in the email, and said Rhodes and other members of the anti-government militia wanted "to provide protection and medical attention to Trump supporters if they come under attack by leftist groups.”

He told the other agents that Rhodes "had specific questions" and shared the Oath Keepers founder's cell phone number, and the agent followed up the following day with another email explaining the group members hoped to "assist those attending the event make it to and from their cars safely. They are NOT there to demonstrate or push a political agenda.”

A former member of the group testified in October 2022 that Rhodes had spoken to the Secret Service to coordinate around the rally, but a spokesman said at the time that the agency didn't have enough information to determine whether that call took place -- which the emails now show had occurred.

An agent asked for intelligence about the Oath Keepers, and another said that news articles showed Rhodes had denounced white nationalists and disliked Antifa, the loosely knit anti-fascist activist group.

It's not clear whether the contacts with Rhodes continued past September 2020, but he was convicted in November 2022 of seditious conspiracy for his role in trying to keep Trump in the White House and was later sentenced to 18 years in prison.

But Smith revealed in his filing that the 3.1 million pages of Secret Service emails did exist – and he has them.

It's unknown how many of those had not been seen by the House Select Committee.

One of the key frustrations from the House Select Committee investigating Jan. 6 and the attempt to overthrow the 2020 election was that the Secret Service "accidentally" deleted every text communication between agents and officials from that day. It was scheduled maintenance, the Homeland Security Inspector General's report explained in 2022.

At the time, the Secret Service denied the report from the IG.

The agency was moved under the purview of the Department of Homeland Security, a Cabinet-level position that was added after the Sept. 11, 2001 attacks. The Secret Service was sounding the alarm to Trump's acting DHS Secretary Chad Wolf, who abruptly left on Jan. 12, 2021 after pledging to stay in office until Jan. 20. Wolf was never confirmed by the Senate for the post.
