Here is the new sneak from Ali featuring silkscreen options (it looks like the paints come in a set per the text on the side of the box they're in "Paint colors included"):

And another one from Spain because I'm in a soft colour DD mood this week, it would seem (love that super simple, thin movie list flip-open insert):

Has it been confirmed, will Liz be doing a DD kit this year? It's clear from the sneaks. Her handwriting is shown several times. It looks like there's a mini kit again (chipboard frame shown in last week's sneaks).

Unwinding from the weekend on this Monday morning (well, early afternoon for me) by posting this lovely pink + pastel DD album from a Spanish crafter. Who's got a current DD fave (video, spread, story idea, photo prompt, etc.) to share to start the week? https://www.instagram.com/reel/CnrDKVVBxCO That album is stunning! I’m obsessed. She used line from The Mint Feather?? I may need to find it if Crate and Pinkfresh do not pull through.

The line she used is called Mujercitas from The Mint Feather, a Spanish company. It's such a soft and dreamy line. I almost bought some a couple of weeks ago. Craftelier has some of the collection (including the paper pack) left in stock, if you're interested.

I'm underwhelmed from the AE sneaks. The reds jut don't work for me. I'm thinking of searching out a digital kit to work with this year.

Do I go ahead and make a smaller album now for last year and hopefully not be burned out by December for this years album? Just skip last years? That kinda makes me sad because I have one for every year since like 2012. This is the first year for us to be in our new house, so I for sure want to document it some way. But Im also behind in PL so maybe just skip last year and move forward? I would definitely focus on this year! Whenever I'm behind, I always work on the present first and then back fill. That said, I would work on it when you feel excited about it! What if you tried to work on them simultaneously? Do this years album first, but do 2022 when you have time during December to work on particular days (like use the day 1 energy to do day 1 in both albums!). If you start feeling burn out/get behind, just focus on 2023 and you'd at least have 2022 started. I also agree with others that you should make sure you have your 2022 notes/photos now, just so you don't forget the details. The rest can be done whenever. Maybe, I'm just too grumpy, but I don't see the point of 8x10. Just buy an 8.5x11 binder or three ring album. Infinitely more options and much cheaper page protectors. The sizes are so close! I think it's because Ali's albums are 10x8, not 8x10. So it's a horizontal album which is very different, in my opinion, from the traditional 8 1/2 x 11 binders that are all vertical. That said, I do see the comparison/frustration that the dimensions are close, but not interchangeable. I think the reasoning is that the 10x8 works better with the existing 3x4, 4x4 and 4x6 cards. 8 1/2 x 11 doesn't divide evenly.

I have seen these before but not really clear on how it works and creative possibilities with this kind of product.

I have silkscreen ink from a DD from a few years ago that I never used. I don't think I used the little silkscreen it came with either. Was it Jasmine Jones?
I have learned from doing this so many times (this will be year 14 I think) that if I'm going to have any sort of handmade elements in my pages, I need to do them in advance. Whether or not these items end up making into the album is not an issue for me. I like playing and crafting and that is the joy. It's just paper. If I don't end up using them this year, they're not going bad. I will use them another year or I won't.
I need to get that stuff out, see if the inks are still usable, and have some fun in November before all holiday breaks loose.
Sometimes I'll get a few hours on a weekend to play around but it's not something I can count on.
I prepped a lot of pages in advance last year and used most of them. They are some of my favorite pages because they're more creative.
That is my thinking for today.

Can acrylic paints be used with silkscreens? I seem to remember, long ago, when we hand them in DD kits and that's what Ali used to add color. blemon same about prepping those handmade items - it has to happen in advance or it's not happening. And, they don't always get used, but just the simple joy of making them is so satisfying.

Zero interest in stencils or silk screens. I find them very messy and unforgiving.
I’m adding Heidi Swapps Hometown Holiday from last year as a possible for my SS. I’ll still do an album, vs her soft cover book. But her kit plus multiple stamps will cost have what I normally order from AE.

This is always my favorite scrap project and this year's Christmas will be extra-special & fun. I'm digital so I will admire all of your paper goodies from afar until the designers I use start releasing their new stuff in November.

I would think you could use pretty much any paint with them.

I have seen these before but not really clear on how it works and creative possibilities with this kind of product. They are sticky backed with a fine screen that you lay down on your project and using a palette knife you spread paint over the screen and then carefully lift up and clean your silkscreen. The silkscreen back when they had them said they could be used many times but will eventually lose their stick. I use very thin layers of paint to get the right amount I want.

Like hutchfan said, a very thin layer of paint and a lot of carefulness (and preferably a back-up paper in case you mess it up 😏). I have the super cheap Jasmine Jones one from the SC sale section and recommend picking it up if anyone interested in trying the technique places an order with SC. Her lettering is so festive anyway. 🦌

I haven’t started last year’s…have only gotten to making a list of what to cover on each day.
The sneaks this year are not exciting me. I agree that they’re kind of dark. But maybe they will appeal to traditionalists?
Interested to see what the mini kit will look like.

That, just like the 9x12 albums being easier to use with standard photos and pocket cards than letter sized/baseball card pocket pages. I did a baseball card pocket album one year and trimming everything to fit was a real pain. AND that you can order a landscape 10x8 photographic print from literally any place that prints photos to be able to include large photos in your album. Walgreens even has occasional free 8x10 enlargement specials and lots of people get 10x8 prints if they get a family portrait done. There's still the option of using a standard letter sized binder and cheap page protectors to make an album if people are so inclined, nothing wrong with that at all! But there's no real crafty money in it for AE to offer that and it is a business, after all. And the landscape orientation is different and interesting and suits people using their big dSLR cameras really well. I'm not into it personally but it seems to be popular with the AE crowd

Interesting to read your thoughts and remarks on the 10x8 format in the US, joblackford . Over here, in metric, the closest would be 20x25 and that's not a very common format. I just checked and several big name photo services don't even offer photos this size. So, Ali's album would only work here for home printers or people using more expensive print providers. We've discussed the general lack of Christmas cards - even more so those personalised ones that are so common in the US. So, for a whole segment of Ali's audience, this is a vanity format. I will say that landscape photobooks have made a huge comeback in the wedding photography world recently. The big square ruled supreme for many years. Vertical was a big indie hit for quite some time. But landscape is back with vengeance.

This will be my third year doing DD and I'm so looking forward to it. In 2021, I just used an Elle's Studio December kit and that went fine but was nothing spectacular. Last year, Christmas felt a bit somber to me and so I went with Vicki Boutin's Evergreen and Holly. That seemed festive but good for documenting some of my grief. This Christmas, I am kind of leaning to Simple Stories Dear Santa line. I just really like the vintage feel. Feels a bit magical to me. I haven't been blown away by AE December Daily stuff and given the sneaks, I don't expect to be this year either.

I’m looking forward to this year’s DD. Leaning towards the 49&Market line and although I usually bind using an old book, I’m on the lookout for an 8x10 ring album that speaks to me (love that red plaid album above but too small for me).
Also, I think I love chatting about DD as much as actually doing it!

I think 8x10 is a legacy size from photography way back - a quick googling suggested it was the size/ratio of large format film. I guess most people in the rest of the world just print enlargements in A4 or A3? I didn't know that landscape photobooks were trending too. I would guess that AE is following along with the trends the same as everyone else, in which case we might be heading back to seeing 12x12 square albums sometime soon, right?! Or 8x8?

I don't love that shade of orange-leaning tomato red in Liz's mini but I really like everything else I'm seeing. I hope that is indeed very light mint green and not grey because that's exciting. And those chipboard frames are just lovely! So far, I'm seeing a winner. I do hate that these kits come in large, chunky boxes. As an international, that adds so much to shipping. Ugh. In these times of economic hardship (and ever-rising prices, including of shipping), this is so the wrong way to go. Inked are thinning their sticker paper down but approving large, thick cardboard packaging. Why oh why?

I would guess that AE is following along with the trends the same as everyone else, in which case we might be heading back to seeing 12x12 square albums sometime soon, right?! Or 8x8? So, traditionally, we had 9x13 cm for standard photos (instead of 10x15, adapted from the 4x6 in that became the standard). It is still a very beloved format over here. You'll still quit easily find frames for this format. And our legacy format for enlarged photos is actually bigger than 8x10. It's 20x30 cm (= approx. 10x12 in) (metric A4 is also readily available). That's what you'll find when picking a larger photo frame in Europe. Cultural quirks are really funny like that. If I wanted to get pics printed for this album size, I'd need to a find a printer who offers the 20x27 cm format and cut one side down. There simply is no 20x25 photo format here. I'm guessing international brands like IKEA have adapted to the American market like they have for mattresses and offer 8x10 photo frames in North America. Well, over here, those simply don't exist. Just like we don't have the US mattress and bed frame dimensions. Landscape has made a huge comeback. Many wedding and family event photographers are now offering this format for their photobooks. Same in my industry, I'm seeing a lot of horizontal for portfolios, booklets, zines, etc. It's a true return to the TV/computer screen format (à la PowerPoint template).
