NEW TOPIC - What Stamps have people ordered/plan to order from Ali E? I can't decide if I am going to get any as I am inconsistent in using them. I am considering the Christmas Phrases and the Tab set - but not convinced I will use either enough to justify the cost. I am still deciding on stamps, I bought several last year and don’t really need more Xmas stamps, but I think the 6x8 Numbers and the Tag stamp sets will get use beyond December projects, so I may pull the trigger on those, but am balking at the 6x8 price point ☹️ I liked Ali’s tab stamp set, but I have a couple of the ones from Elle’s Studio, and I prefer the tab shapes and variety of phrases, and the fact that the sets all work together, and I have the die to cut out the tabs 👍

UPDATE - Elle's Studio Goodies came today! I LOVE the look and size of the red foil chipboard numbers - that was a GREAT purchase. I have already tested out the 3x4 square metal frame die that is essentially the die equivalent of the AE chipboard frames and it works great. I just used it in a travel album and I am super excited to use it with Ali E and 49&Market papers to make some fun frames and hopefully leverage any Ali E chipboard frame inspo. If you are at all considering either of these items, both are worth it! I also bought the pocket die but have not tested it yet. EEP! Its fun to get a few early Christmas album items. My Elle’s Studio order came, too, and the chipboard numbers with the red foil are really great! I should have picked up an extra set. The Christmas Carol stamp set is adorable, so many great Christmas carol lines/lyrics, and all in different font types—love that! The pocket die will get a ton of use beyond DD pages, and I also splurged and got the big perforated tag die set (I am a sucker for tags). I am wondering if we will see this big tag die in Ali’s album, I saw the die set in her studio when she was doing one of her IG Q&As…

Thanks - I’m not on Insta so have to rely on public view posts only. Yeah, hard to see shaker pockets once you’ve seen them done well. Here’s one example I know of, she also did another sequin filled shaker page where she used mesh to keep the sequins in that was amazing… m.youtube.com/watch?v=NkYOVEyzCFYThis is gorgeous. I love the use of tulle. I just want to give a little credit to Ali. First, great idea. I wouldn't have thought of that. She also admits that the execution is not great. It's also really freaking hard to stitch on plastic. It's hard to sew on paper because it doesn't have the tooth of fabric. And adding the plastic is very difficult. You need a special foot. I don't have one. I'm going to try this because it's amazing. I'm going to use my silhouette to cut the advent calendar cards into circles. The way I did it last year was to cut a circle out of cardstock, then gently lift it up and put what I want to cut underneath it and run that through again. It worked really well. I bought a 3" punch and don't have room for an even bigger one. I think I would not cut out the plastic circle before stitching though. That way you could make a sandwich of the plastic-sequin mix-cardstock, keep them together with some quilt clips or binder clips, then stitch all the way around, then cut the circle of plastic carefully. I think the key would be using just the right amount of mix, not too much or the plastic won't lay flat.

But she is Ali Edwards, the main voice in scrapbooking for Christmas documenting. Therein lies the difference. An amateur trying their best with whatever tools they have on hand is one thing. The person who's the name for December albums and making bank selling products + classes (including product play, a little ironically) is a different matter. And it was posted to the actual DD social media. That was a very poor presentation for the leading brand in December documenting. And that's AE's second strike after the other hawt mess that was the mixed media kindergarten ornament. If you still want to make a shaker pocket by sewing straight on, go for handstitching and take your time to poke each hole with the plastic adhered to the paper with some washi. It'll look much cleaner and even. With a sewing machine, just use a thinner vellum or fine mesh instead of plastic.

lg You can use third party websites to watch stories if you're interested. No need to have an actual IG account to snoop. Look for "anonymous IG stories" on Google, for ex. Storiesig.info currently works well (just use a pop-up blocker in your browser).

Respectfully, I have to disagree. It's not like she was trying to sell this hot-mess shaker as a product. She was providing inspiration or an idea that others might want to try. She admits that the execution wasn't great, but that she personally liked it. Sometimes it's refreshing to see that even the "pros" make mistakes and that it's ok to own imperfections with our crafting experiments Now if she was trying to sell that as a product as it was presented....that would be a different story, lol.

The messy stitching is a choice and tbh makes me feel better about mine lol but since it was too full and taught it didn't shake... idea is cute, execution not so much and if she plans on making a tutorial I hope she figures that out.

scrappymeg I thought both the ornament and the shaker pocket looked poorly made. They would have been better suited to Ali's own account instead. But I may have a stronger opinion on the matter due to my job. December Daily is a brand in itself (and a pretty large one in such a niche industry) and I find both projects to be below expectations for the brand (the ornament was worse, granted). But it won't affect Ali's DD sales numbers.

I do get what you’re saying. And I can see your point. But on the other hand, I personally find something like this more interesting than the gazillion perfect paper crafts that brands like PF put up constantly. That said, I definitely noticed the messy result and immediately wondered “hmmm, I wonder what the right way to do this would be?” 😂

There are a bunch on Amazon, but the ones I checked out look much thicker than Dee's. I want to use this in my DD to add some photos and journaling inside the envelope. UPDATE: I found the small magnets in a pack with larger ones on Amazon. link

I love having those very slim magnets in my stash. They’re great for keeping flip ups and envelope flaps closed. I used them in last years DD on a photo of my double front doors. I sliced the photo down the middle, so it was like the doors were being opened.
The ‘here for the cheer’ stencil was pretty cool in the IG example. I really liked the white outline of the letters!

I did order a couple of sets last yea - used them a few times but could get a lot more out of them so that's what I'll be using this year.

I have a magnetic seam guide ruler from Madame Sew that helps to keep nice straight lines when seeing. I’m. Going to play around with circles to see what I can come up with. I love shaker pockets.

Hallmark vs strike news: Way more movies than the first bunch we've already read about have been filmed. Since they almost exclusively film in Canada with many Canadian actors, they don't seem to have been too affected by the strike. Also, they operate more independently from the big movie studios that the unions are striking against, are open to writers they've never worked with before submitting scripts, including writers from completely different movie/TV genres, and have already managed to score an exemption to continue filming their popular When Calls the Heart series. Countdown to Christmas should start on October 20 this year. If this start date is confirmed later this month, I think we're looking at a pretty full roster. I need my Hallmark to make it through the depressing autumn-winter season!

I'm still on the fence about the large #'s. That's a lot of moolah for numbers. Can I say how irritated I am to have to check on Instagram, then insta stories (which delete after so long? Is that right?), then her blog. Just keep it one place, please. Thanks for linking her shaker envelope flap. Gave me a page idea for Christmas cards sent out & rec'd. I purchased the Paislee Press set. I like the circle set, and the tab set, but am probably going to hold out. I like Kerri Branford’s stamps, so I’m waiting to see what she’ll release this year.

If they needed real snow, which I assume for most of the Christmas movies, they would, they had to have been filmed last winter, long before the strike. It will start to impact after Christmas, like Valentine’s Day or the spring movies. I have heard that the strike has been impacting here in Canada. I’d be shocked if it wasn’t.

I'd like to know too. I have some very powerful magnets like this link and even the ones that are about the diameter of a pea (5mm) are crazy strong and would rip paper. I think I would want something not very strong but I don't want to spend $10 on those Amazon ones. I don't know why though. That's really not bad.

It will start to impact after Christmas, like Valentine’s Day or the spring movies. Most Hallmark Christmas movies are filmed in summer (and released just a few months later - it's all a very quick process), actually. They don't need real snow for most of them. The actors love it because their kids are on summer break and follow them on location with the other parent (several Hallmark actors have confirmed on IG being on set for a Christmas movie this summer). A typical Hallmark movie only takes 2 to 3 weeks to shoot. It's one of the big perks of working for them. If you're curious, you can watch Shenae Grimes-Beech's day-on-set vlog from summer 2022 here. Some exceptions exist. Michael Rady makes his return to Hallmark this year (yay!) and his Christmas flick was shot in early spring, I believe. Holidazed, Hallmark's first Christmas series ever, started shooting in November last year.

The large spine Hickory album by Simple Stories I ordered earlier this summer for DD is shown properly in here for those interested. The rings are 2 in and the spine around 3. Fastfoward to the 06:45 mark to see in-depth focus on the album pre-decorating. Tagging dawnnikol who is interested in this DD album alternative, I believe.
