So is anyone else keeping a close eye on the weather that is about to come Sunday through Monday?
She was just upgraded to a hurricane and could reach level 3 before landfall.
Rain totals were just upped too. I was in a 2" area and now they said my area could see as much as 5-6" of rain. Holy poop.

I'm excited but I don't live in a flood prone area. I hope we get a good soak.

I am worried about all the new burn areas around me from the fires. Local agencies are having people get sand bags already.

They said it will probably be a tropical storm by the time it hits our cooler waters. They still expect winds around 40MPH along the coast. Maybe about 2” of rain along the coast. Inland they expect about 5”-7”.
I hope your area doesn’t get hit too hard by the rain.

If in doubt that you might be in danger, please leave early. I'm remembering the 23 people who died as a result of the horrific Montecito MudFlow in January 2018, about a month after the enormous Thomas Fire erupted. I'm on the coast.... where are you finding the rain predictions for your area?

It shows the updates as far as hurricane (now could be cat 4 at land fall) and then rain totals and when it will hit areas.

I'm in coastal San Diego where we don't usually get rain in the summer, much less hurricanes! But it looks like we might get 1.5" of rain.

They didn't start naming hurricanes until the 50's or so. The last one on record was around 1850, and it hit part of San Diego.

I have lived here in So Cal my entire life and I have never seen it rain in August, ever. If we get real rain it will be a first for me. It has been super humid for the last few days.

I remember far back as 5 having a rainy summer. We had a pool and it was the best every swimming while it rained. But if thunder was heard we got out. Even marching band camp had to be inside. Always loved the storms but we are inland near the mountains and desert so maybe that is why. We get stuff from Arizona and Nevada that travels south west or just west. Love when big thunder heads start to creep over the mountain tops.

It looks like we are supposed to get a little over 2 inches here. I hope there isn’t much damage in the burn scar areas. Like others have said if in doubt please move to a safe area for the few days to stay safe from the storm. I hope you have someplace you can go. The app Wunderground gives estimates on rain and it’s usually pretty accurate. As much as I want rain I don’t like seeing flash flood warnings. I was going to wash the cars this weekend but I guess not. I will move some cushions in and anything that might blow around. I really hope it gets downgraded snd it doesn’t hit as a hurricane. But the predicted rain can cause slides in burn areas . It’s bad enough to go through and survive a fire snd then a month or so later for this threat.

I am 30 min from one burn area, and about 20 from another. So not directly near or in those areas. Just an overall concern due to recent fires we had. It has been a few years and Oak Glen still deals with mud slides and flooding when it rains. But the fire in Moreno Valley will cause issues as well as for Beaumont/Banning and southward to Hemet.

I’m glad you aren’t close. I think I remember you had friends that evacuated or that were close to it. Or maybe it was the smoke that was bad where you live. Slides are scary things as they can happen so quickly. I really hope there aren’t any that cause issues.

The weather maps look ominous. It the last couple of days they have been looking more and more like we will get at least a good rain. Strange.

The app Wunderground gives estimates on rain and it’s usually pretty accurate. This is what I was using too and haven't seen any thing on there for so cal (SD, OC, LA) over 2 inches of rain and max 18 mph winds. Hopefully that's accurate.

I just check Medical (a friends family lives there) and of the places I've searched that was to highest rain fall predicted right now (about 3 inches) and max wind was 15 mph.
Really hoping we don't actually get a hurricane. But Definitely will be getting a rare rain storm in August!

Wunderground is showing about 35-44 mph for San Diego, early Monday morning, for about 4-5 hours. Looks like we will get rain all day Sunday, and then it tapers off late Monday afternoon. School is supposed to start on Monday in San Diego.

Really hoping we don't actually get a hurricane. But Definitely will be getting a rare rain storm in August! I just scrolled through and I see 35-42 mph wind early Monday morning. I really hope that doesn’t happen. We see downed trees snd fences when wind is in the teens. I wasn’t expecting to see that. A lot can change between now and then snd I hope it doesn’t get that bad. We just don’t get sustained winds that high. In the teens yes but I know I won’t be sleeping Monday night if it’s that much wind as it just gets too noisy. I am wishing we had pushed the HOA to trim the tree next to our house (green belt) so glad we removed our tall trees snd no longer live in our old house with really tall eucalyptus trees in our neighbors yard that refused to trim or remove. They were the only one that had one actually fall over so you would think they would agree but nope as it wasn’t close to their house but was close to ours. So glad to not be their neighbors anymore
