I'm in northern/central CA- basically straight east of the Bay Area- and people are worried about it hitting here. WTH? REALLY? We MIGHT get rain and it'll cool to below 90 for the first time in months. LOL I hope the So Cal peeps fare well. They say it will be a tropical depression by the time it hits central California. That is still a lot of water. I'm seriously hoping for a lot of water! I'll take it over the crazy high temps we've had the last few weeks.

I’m in south Orange County. My house gets hit pretty hard when we get Santa Ana winds. My neighbor and I agreed we will probably have our fence knocked down. It is frustrating hearing people say it will not happen or just drizzle. I keep seeing posts that the only time you should take things seriously is when Disneyland closes. All The suggestions of what to do by the peas is so helpful! I feel prepared thanks to all of you!!!

San Diego County just sent out a tropical storm warning and flash flood alerts to our phones. I jumped when both of our phones went off. It is not raining yet where I am. but I know there was rain earlier out in the east county desert areas.

They announced areas for evacuations north east of us. Most areas will be fine but some are going to see damage. I am tired of those that dismiss this completely and say we will only get a bit of drizzle. Probably the same people that were complaining about too much rain in March and completely forget Valentine’s Day a few years ago - we got at least 7 inches and I spent the day clearing drains and digging a trough for water to move away from our house. Yes most of our area will not see damage but other areas will. Those dismissing it keep mentioning masks and Bud Lite and keep saying that the government is doing this to test their control lol. Yes I live in a red area.
I was expecting rain to have started by now. I think it was originally supposed to start around 4 but it’s been pushed to 1 am. I really hope we get some rain here and am hoping for the 2 inches. That amount won’t cause damage and the ground could use a good soak. I don’t mind if we don’t get the wind but really hope we get the rain. If we don’t get it people here are really going to scream conspiracy.

I have seen some screenshots from an app with lightning strikes in the area snd I really hope there aren’t fires - hoping there is enough rain to keep that from happening. My husband said he saw a lot on the drive back from the San Diego airport last night snd I was afraid that might happen.

The worst will be between 3PM and 5PM, with winds up to 40MPH during those two hours. I am kind of glad the brunt of the storm is not at night. The dark makes it more scary. I agree with you about people downplaying this storm. I know that a lot of our storms do not pan out like they forecast, so I get why people are dismissive about all this. But man, just look at the radar pictures people!

I am near Long Beach where the 1939 tropical storm hit. I am very close to the coast. I went out today for supplies and it was crazy. I got groceries, water and flashlights. Since most the flashlights at Home Depot were sold out, I had to buy the expensive ones that were left. So two really nice flashlights and extra batteries was $70! Lesson learned, keep emergency flashlights on hand all the time.
I’ve removed almost everything from my patio that could go flying when the wind hits. I don’t have sandbags, but I’ve gathered some other things like a tarp to try and stop up any flooding near my home should the water get that high. I have my devices charged up in case we have a power outage.
Now we wait. My area is supposed to start getting rain about 4 am.

I thought this storm was going to bring cooler weather. It’s 6:30am and 75°. 😩 It’s sooooo sticky. It’s just drizzling in my area of OC with a bit of a breeze but it’s very dark. This is definitely east coast weather.

Yes, humid out there. Yuck. I am used to cold rain storms. We had a good rainfall early this morning. Nothing terrible so far.
The storm is moving fast, which is good because it won’t get stuck over one area. Right now it seems to be tracking close to I-15. People on the internet think what we’ve had so far is it and are making fun of all the “doomsday” forecasts. The storm is still in Baja. Hasn’t even crossed into the US yet.

We cleaned up all of our outdoor furniture, umbrellas, shade sails, and our sons outdoor toys yesterday. It has been steadily raining since early this morning. I put some houseplants outside to get some rain water but I’ll bring them in before the wind picks up. The rain is supposed to get pretty bad in San Diego around 1 pm and stay bad until 5 pm.
I went to Target in Mission Valley yesterday afternoon and it was reminiscent of Covid times, so many shelves were wiped out. SDSU starts classes on Monday, I saw tons of parents and kids getting dorm supplies in addition to storm supplies. Just really hoping we don’t have any power outages today!

Yeah, have seen those comments on a local community group. If they saw the images out if Baja they would think differently. And of course the desert has been hit hard. Our heavy rain and winds (25-40mph) will start between 2pm and 3pm and we still have a chance at a tornado. Nice steady rain so far since early morning.

We’ve received almost half an inch of rain so far but it stopped about an hour ago. We are still expecting 2.2 inches I think it’s supposed to really hit around 2 here.

It's been steadily raining here since about 4:00 this morning. So far it is a really nice rain…in August!!! All of the neighbors whose houses have been locked down with their AC on for the last several weeks have their windows wide open. I am sitting here with all windows and doors open. Nothing better than an open house while it rains. It is 76 degrees right now. Perfect!

Just saw news reports from Baja and they seemed to have been slammed. Hoping for the SoCal Peas to not have as much of a storm as once expected.

The “fighting” on NextDoor is starting. Since it is 3PM, nothing much has happened here yet. We are coastal, so most of the storm is tracking east. But, you have those saying it is a government plot to control people to one saying there was never a hurricane at all. And those saying people who prepped are sheep. Sigh!

You have some of the same type of people we have here. They are loud and sound angry all the time. I have heard that Newsome created this to make money then when he declared a state of emergency they really went off. I really hope we don’t have too much damage. I am seeing that there are or were at least 2 swift water rescues so far. Earthquake on ojai. It’s currently pouring here but no wind yet.

ETA - Cal State SD and Cal State San Marcos will go virtual tomorrow.

Things are getting bad. Heavy rain and wind. Flooding along I-10 in multiple areas. Roads washing out. Train tracks about to get washed out. Huge trees down. Power outages. Rivers and washed at max.

So far, it hasn't been too bad near Huntington Beach. Wind started kicking up about an hour ago, but seems to have slowed down. It's been raining pretty steadily all day.
The worst part is how hot it feels. This is Southern California. I'm used to rain = cold. even though it's in the 70s outside, I've been watching the inside temp creep up all day. I have my AC set at 80 so I can run the fan and the AC turned on at 8:00 PM.
I just hope it doesn't get too bad overnight.

We just had a stretch of about an hour of heavy rain. We are about to where we were predicted to be for rain for this storm. Looking at the rate of rain per hour this last bit was the highest I remember seeing in the past.

I don’t…I don’t know what to do with this. They now think the news and weather stations and reports are lying about weather activity? To control people? Is it at least a very small but vocal minority? Because otherwise, I’ll be honest and admit I didn’t realize there were so many unintelligent people. What does the government get out of controlling people like this? They don’t benefit from people prepping for a natural disaster. So many questions…

My brother lives in Montecito. After what he experienced, I will never take a chance when it comes to weather. I get that many times the news tells us there’s going to be major storms, and it barely rains. This was a completely different situation!
Right now it is still pouring and there’s very strong (and loud!!) winds. My school district is in session tomorrow. We all know we will be dealing with water issues in our classrooms.
