Simon Says Stamps has a bunch of new (not the stamptember) stamp and die sets. All the sets I’ve clicked into have numerous inspiration photos from their designers. All except the Hanukkah set. Not a single example. Not one. Could they not be bothered?
Yes, it aggravates the hell out of me. Someone finally designed a modern, clean, Jewish stamp set (which I will purchase regardless), hurray! But it is so typical of the stamp companies to relegate the Jewish products to second or third class “citizens.”
Rant over. Please add yours!

It does seem like it's always an afterthought, Stampin' Up just released one but it's online only and looks to be the same as older ones they've attempted.
My vent: I'm mad at myself, I watch videos, buy products, and then hardly ever get off my arse to make anything!

MichyM I'm with you. I would love to see something new for Hanukkah. It looks like there isn't much in the way of Hanukkah for new launches this year.

That SSS launched the set and didn't bother to make any cards with it is absolutely appalling! Shame on them!

Vent on their Facebook page. Or their Instagram page. Others will chime in. Maybe they’ll do something.

Oh wow, totally valid vent. That is a great set. I think you should buy it and make a card with a pear blossom light under the middle candle. Don’t forget to tag SSS so you can inspire anyone who wants that set.

I left a comment on one of their IG posts (the one announcing the new collection). I had been looking at Hanukkah stamps recently, thinking about making some for charity and for a couple of Jewish friends. I definitely need inspiration to get started though - I’m not very familiar with Hanukkah traditions. Catherine Pooler has a set that Daniel West from Del and Artie was demonstrating (maybe on YT?) shop.catherinepooler.com/products/love-light-bundleI also looked at a Sunny Studios set that has half a dozen examples www.scrapbook.com/store/sss-sscl-363.htmlBut both of them are a bit more froufrou, not so graphic and modern. I don’t know how SSS’s DT works, if they get all the new things or an allowance to choose what they want. You’d think that if they had the motivation to design the stamp they’d at least make one example card with it. Very disappointing.

Thanks to you all for listening to my rant. pinklady , you crack me up! joblackford , I saw the new CP stuff. The stamps didn’t do anything for me but I do have the paper on its way. Thank you for saying something on the SSS SM. I personally appreciate that ❤️ I think for now I’m not going to buy the set after all, just because I’m peeved with SSS over this. I have the (retired) Honey Bee set that I can use and maybe someone else will come up with another set with a clean, modern look.

I ended up posting a comment in one of their new release posts on (moderated) FB last night. It was not approved and no one reached out to me privately. How disappointing that they won’t acknowledge it.
What I posted:
“Hello. Could you tell me when we might expect some inspiration projects using the new Hanukkah stamp and die set. Disappointingly, there is nothing posted thus far. Thank you!”

Wow. I hadn’t noticed that. That is awful. Holy cow, they are completely clueless. I did go to IG and tagged them in a reply to the comment that joblackford had made. We’ll see if they respond in any way.

I'd be inclined just to write an email describing what we've discussed here without linking it and suggesting that if they don't have any DT members who are Jewish that they might want to reach out to some crafters who are and/or make sure to create their own samples so there's *something* on the page. They might claim that no Jewish people have applied to be on their DT but as we were reminded in mid2020 companies need to reach out and invite diversity instead of assuming it will just come to them. I think there are many of us who make cards for charities who would be happy to make Hanukkah cards if we had some good products and inspiration. I would think there would be quite a demand for them in senior communities and I feel bad for not making cards for Hanukkah.

I finally emailed SSS directly. They now have one single Hanukkah example up with the new stamp and die set (yay them?) and after my suggestion removed the Christmas Card that used Stars of David on it. Gawd that was offensive.

Maybe I'm overly cynical, but I imagine recent events on the world stage may have accelerated their motivation to get a clue....

Well, I’m back to being peeved. Someone on the SSS FB reached out to me privately to say that they are “sorry that I am offended.” Not, “sorry, we dropped the ball.” Nor “sorry we completely misappropriated the Star of David by using it on a Christmas card.” As any good Jew would say, OY! 🙄 And thanks for listening me to on about this. And yes Shakti I think the events over the last 6 days may have finally prompted them to act. They never acknowledged my (very nice) queries on both IG and FB last week. I assume they didn’t with leeny or joblackford either.

Eh, go SSS! Way to do the bare minimum rather late! I like the example, very pretty. but how does it read to you MichyM? I'm so used to seeing very one-note Hanukkah examples that this doesn't read like Hanukkah at all to me.. but I really wouldn't know. I'd love to hear what you think and what you might do with this set. I was thinking it almost read as Hindu Diwali - another different festival of lights, although I guess the Star of David probably wouldn't go well with a Hindu holiday. So then I typed in Diwali to see if SSS has anything and now I have two more rants to add to the list. 1. the second you move your cursor to the search bar after you open the home page there's a stupid popup add to sign up for something. You have to move your cursor back to close that before you can search. I get so annoyed. Many sites that's enough to make me click away and never come back. Maybe an overreaction and certainly, obviously not on par with religious discrimination. But I have another one... 2. I typed 'Diwali' into the search bar and this popped up. Twice. No search results, it takes you straight to this page. www.simonsaysstamp.com/products/photoplay-christmas-lights-clear-stamp-sis3588 Nope. I assume they're probably not trying to be assholes pushing Christianity at everyone but that glitch is NOT a good look!

I don't see it as pushing Christianity on this one just key words bringing it up based on what tags are used for that item and what Diwali means.

I understand the lights connection but this wasn’t one option of many (of varying relevance) to click on. I typed Diwali and didn’t get a list of search results at all - it just took me straight to this item page. In the context of the other issues mentioned here this glitch felt like a slap across the face - as if they screamed “No non-Christian holidays for you! Have some Christmas lights!” But I did just look up fairy lights for Diwali and they are associated, so I guess someone making a Diwali card might use a Christmas light stamp as a background. Maybe I was overreacting because I was already annoyed with them.

I’ll add a vent about Christmas sentiments stamps. So many say “From our house to yours or We wish you a Merry Christmas or from all of us, etc. Those don’t work since it’s just me now. I would like to see some that say From my house…., I wish you a….. or from me to you. Not everyone has a SO or kids still at home.

I was raised Catholic, but I'm not super-religious. However, I find it really - oh, I don't know - stupid? - when I see stamps and cards with Santa in the manger with the Holy Family. Smiling, with his sack of toys on his back. It looks ridiculous and offensive at the same time. SMH.

Hee -- that reminds me of one my favorite lines EVER in a Christmas song, because it blends the sacred and the secular ideas of the holiday in such bizarre but clever way, "Santa Claus knows we're all God's children, that makes everything right."
