Didn't realize how much I wrote!! Sorry.. Please move along if you want.. lol.. it actually helped me get all my notes in order!
Geez when it rains it pours.
My sister has been at the hospital for a week now. What a nightmare. In a long nutshell pieced from our texts.. cause I am not a medical person nor pretend to understand.. I try..lol
Saturday sis took herself to the ER because of severe abominable pain. She hasn't had any normal bowel movements in awhile. Something she has been dealing with for about 4 months. Been to doctors but none of them seemed that concerned. They told her to do different things, etc.
Had ekg, cat scan blood work. On Morphine for pain. Cat scan showed something in her abdomen, a mass. Most likely pressing on intestines and twisting them.
So then they think it is gynecological. Calling in a oncologist gyn. The mass is substantial and concerning but has no idea what it is until biopsies. It explains all her symptoms and gi issues.
Gyn comes in and looks at ultrasound. Doc/medical team is stumped. Ovaries/uterus appear to be ok. Now they think a mass of blood. Not something that is seen. It's behind the uterus (she thinks the doc said that). Most likely not cancer, or at least not gyn cancer. New people called in. More blood work.
Days later, no new news. Still in hospital. They can't figure out the exact location. Looking for tumor markers (??) Surgery is coming but two dozens of 'what ifs'. Two oncologists are supposed to consult next day. Still need biopsies.
Another day or two. Radiologist still can't say for certain if this is tissue vs hematoma or something else. A nurse oncologist was assigned (cancer specialist) from outside the hospital group. Hopes there will be a biopsy ordered but if the off chance it's hematoma they can't stick a needle in it. Could be vaginally or through abdomen.
The asshole doctor comes in finally and first thing he says "how we treating this cancer?" UMMMMM really? Didn't ask about the bowels, irritated she isn't eating three full meals a day (she literally can't eat). He said 'you are fine and go home'. WTF. Didn't ask her any questions and says everything looks fine until they have surgery. But still no one knows what it is.
Another day. One of the original doctors is back. Looked at chart and saw that some of the tumor markers were positive and figured asshole doctor said something to her. She apologized about him. Apparently he is known to be a real jerk. NOW there is another explanation or theory... a very complex undiagnosed endometriosis.
So now three doctors and many theories. AND now another doctor on the scene. A colorectal cancer doctor. Concerned that maybe it's going into the colon but he doesn't think so. But he is on the team now just in case.
She's trying not to take pain meds because they mess with her GI stuff... She is trying to get home at this point and wait for surgery.
She got home last night but ended up back in the ER this morning. She had a panic attack this morning (thinking about what if's and kids). Then out of the blue she said she had the most massive bowel movement known to man. Nothing she has ever seen or experienced. It was so bad her body started shutting down (in a way).. shaking/tingling, couldn't really walk. Back to ER. Good thing is that more pain meds ordered and cramping gone for now. She thinks she will be able to go back home if her body settles down.
OMG can I write anymore?
Meanwhile mom is with her husband while he has replacement knee surgery. We don't want to worry her much. So she isn't up to date with last nights episode yet. I'm elected to inform her of everything until her stuff is settled. She is strong but she is 84.
