And also, when my DH was a SAHD for the first few years of our son’s life, even though his mom never taught him about childcare or housework (nor did mine teach me), he just figured that shit out without being a baby about it because we agreed that was our division of labor at the time. I’m not saying it was perfect but man up, dude. Playing incompetent 1950s dad for yuks isn’t funny. |

Incompetent daddy point of view aside, I commend your wife for having your girls take Russian language classes. My father was born to two people from Ukraine and he wasn’t taught the language at all. He claimed it was so his parents could talk in front of their 7 kids without them understanding anything they were saying. I just wish they had and then that Dad would have educated me too. Are you also taking classes to better understand and assist your daughters?

Hey all. I appreciate the feedback. No, that isn't sarcasm, it's sincere. I spent seven years as a standup comedian, and always knew right away whether something worked or not by the crowd reaction. But in humor writing, you don't get to hear shit. So it's good to get honest feedback. Maybe the humor didn't connect with some of you, or maybe I laid a huge egg. Probably won't be the last time. I once had a German girlfriend, and after two years I could have semi-conversations with her in her native language. But for some reason the Russian language just doesn't stay in my brain the way the German did. I know the important words though. You don't want to be around Evi when she's yelling "BILYAT".  As for our daughters, my main role for the online classes is to sit there and make sure everything is--and keeps--working. The teachers are really good as holding their attention and making the education fun. Evi is an amazing wife. She and I are both making sure that Sasha and Norah have every advantage and opportunity available, but she is the one that finds these events, classes and tutoring that nobody else seems to. And while I of course exaggerated my ineptitude in the house, she would probably be better if she had to do my duties than I would be if I had to do hers. (I will say, for the record, that I am WAY better at dishes than she is. A mildly intelligent orangutan could load the dishwasher better than she can.) Anyway, yes, the girls can hold conversations in Russian and tell secrets with me right there.  |
