I've enjoyed Allison's SG sketch classes on FB, and I'm thinking about signing up for this course for 2024: scrapbookandcards.com/sketches-2024It's about the same price as AE's OLW class, which I've joined for several years, but have always fizzled out on. What are your thoughts?

I think it looks great. That’s a lot of content to expect each month.
I’ve taken other classes from her through Scrapbook Generation before. She’s a good teacher and shares a lot of information.
If you’ve ever taken a class with SCT before, there’s a discount code for 20% off classes for class alumni. I believe it’s in your SCT account on their website under your classes. This makes it even more affordable, just a few dollars a month.

I like her classes. I might try to do this one as well. It would be nice to have some monthly inspiration and to try and keep up with it.

I took one of her sketch classes a couple of years ago, and there was A LOT of content. I printed it all out and have it in a binder. She is very knowledgeable and generous with her ideas.
It's a great value, but of course not exactly the same as the OLW course. If it helps, I didn't purchase the class for the first time since 2015, and it gave me an excuse to go back to the content I had missed in previous years. I really like what I've done with my project this year, and I was able to tailor it for my own needs.

I think it sounds great. I'm planning to sign up.
If you have taken other classes from SCT ( not Crop and Create) you get an alumni discount.

I got the email about upcoming SCT classes and this was the one that interested me the most. I think I may still have a credit at SCT from a gc I didn't find until after I had registered for the upcoming Crop & Create event. Might want to use it on this class.
ETA: I did have an unused gc. So I registered for the class. Looking forward to playing with her sketches.

$45 feels like a lot -- and I don't understand why CAD and USD prices are the same for downloaded content.

It averages out to $3.75 per month. That’s not a lot for all of the class content IMO. I have no idea why they chose to price USD and CAD the same.

I signed up before I caught the issue with the US/CA pricing and paid $36. I had a 20% coupon from taking a class in 2019. So if you have ever paid for a class through them, make sure you go and get the code before signing up for this one (or any of them).

The conversion isn’t even close to the same for either price. If the class is $45 CAD it should be about $33 US If it’s $45 US, it would be about $62 CAD I’m not paying an overage because they’re trying to make it easy or take advantage of the US dollar. This is NOT OK!

I think the same Canadian & US prices is just how SCT sells kits and classes. Not sure why, but they are a Canadian company.

I think the same Canadian & US prices is just how SCT sells kits and classes. Not sure why, but they are a Canadian company. You’re missing the point. Yes, they’re Canadian. So if I, as an American, pay $45 Canadian dollars, that converts to $33 US dollars (according to the conversion chart online). Right? But they don’t have it set up for me to pay that way. They have me paying $45 American dollars. Which for them, is actually $62 Canadian dollars. See? They’re overcharging the Americans. If the class is truly $45 Canadian Dollars, they need to to be charging the Americans the equivalent converted amount of that same value. As they’re doing it, they’re ripping off the Americans by $12 dollars. I know the conversion fees are not that high. And as a customer, I’m happy to pay them in order to do business with a “foreign” currency. They covert their event boxes to the proper currencies. I don’t understand why the classes are set up like this. They certainly aren’t worth paying an extra $12 more for.

The fact that it is DOWNLOAD content and nothing shipped - and the fact that their system has the capability, I believe, to charge dual currency - like for their events - is what makes me question why the price is the same. It should not be the same OR they should allow us to elect what currency we pay in. But you can't. Because your shipping address defines your country, which selects the currency for you.

Thank you for alerting us we had incorrectly priced this class. Not intentional, just miscommunication behind the scenes during a busy event season. Price is $45 US. We will make an adjustment to the Cdn pricing and for those who have taken a class with us before, you will have a 20% off coupon in your dashboard.
Can I make a suggestion? Rather than raise the temperature here, why not a simple email giving the benefit of the doubt to a company? Friends, running a business through the pandemic was hard, and challenges still exist. Many of us in the industry are doing the best we can and kindness goes a long way.

Rather than raise the temperature here, why not a simple email giving the benefit of the doubt to a company? Friends, running a business through the pandemic was hard, and challenges still exist. Many of us in the industry are doing the best we can and kindness goes a long way. Good morning, Catherine. I did email Jen on 11/13 at 7:33 PM CST - email pasted below - and have yet to receive a response on it. You have the same pricing on ALL of your classes, so it feels like a gouge to the US. I appreciate your perspective, but I think it's okay to ask the question. I think SCT has pivoted very well into virtual - I have done many of your events and would never have flown to CA for an event. So you have me as a customer because of your clever responses to the pandemic that affected all of us, not just businesses. I worked at 65% pay for months, doing the jobs of two people. Nonetheless, thank you for addressing the issue. Hi Jen. Hope you are doing well. I was wondering why the 2024 download class is the same price for US and Canada? On an alumni price, it would bring it down to $36 USD vs $45 USD, but if you divide that by the .72 avg exchange rate, it means US customers are paying roughly $11 more — which is a 27% upcharge. Since this is all download content that I am actually going to print myself, I don’t understand why US customers are paying the CAD price? In fact, I don’t understand that for any of your download content. I know you all have such great customer service, and so I thought I would reach out…because I am not following the logic here.
Thank you so much for your time and I anticipate your response. Best regards, Penny Grimsley

Thank you, Pennyscraps. Appreciate that you reached out to us. With an event this weekend, an issue off to print today, and shipping our Let's Stamp Together subscription, Jen likely has not had a minute to answer. We will look at class pricing early next week but know it has never been with the intention to gouge anyone. Not the way I do business.

Thank you for addressing it.
Also let’s not assume any peas here were “trying to raise the temperature.” For me, I was very excited about the class and then when the price was pointed out, I wanted to make sure people understood why it was a problem.
Unfortunately, in this industry, things seem to get changed when they're pointed out in a more public way. We’ve seen that here a lot on the board, so I feel it’s important to point that out for background. There’s a “toxic positivity” on some of the retailer pages in general. You can’t be honest without a handslap or a gang up by the fan girls. I’m not saying that’s the case for SCT, but I do think there’s fear in reaching out to say something negative in a general sense to any retailer. A lot of retailers refuse to listen to anything negative. Just a perspective to consider, respectfully, as to why people may not want to reach out directly. It’s nothing personal.

Oh, for Pete's sake, sometimes we come here to vent our frustrations a little bit. pennyscraps did reach out (most graciously, I might add), and heard crickets for 2 days. We don't need to be hand-slapped by companies who can't take some criticism and questioning of policies. If you want to explain, then explain, but please stop the hand-slapping and excuses.

I also think that her raising the issue also gives scrappers a heads up to an event that we might have normally missed. Someone's question might also give the company some business.

I was excited to possibly get a discount and that was going to push me over the price hurdle to sign up, but now I’m really disappointed that C&C alumni aren’t offered the class discount. That would have been a good way to transition those customers over to class content customers. As it is, I probably won’t sign up.
