The post about 5 Thanksgiving starchy side dishes made me wonder…. is Mac n cheese a common thanksgiving side dish in your family? We always had thanksgiving at one of my 6 aunts/uncles houses and I never remember having Mac n cheese. It was pretty much the same wherever it was being hosted - turkey, gravy, stuffing, yams, potatoes, cranberries, rolls, green beans, pies.

I didn't grow up with it as a Thanksgiving dish, but I added it to ours because my DH and our DDs love it. The recipe I found is the best! I tried to change it one year and had a near revolt on my hands. Don't mess with the mac & cheese!

I've only ever heard about it here on 2Peas. Not a traditional Thanksgiving thing in my world.

It's not traditional for my family. I think we had it one time, and no one ate it, so we don't bother.

I voted no, but I would eat it if it showed up on the table.

Not at Thanksgiving but we have had it at Easter. And I will never comprehend how it is a main entree. It has always been a side dish. If I put a dish of mac and cheese on the table when my kids were young and said here's dinner, they would have looked at me like I was crazy.

no when I'm cooking - it's not traditional for us and while DD17 and DD23 like mac and cheese - they only like boxed and not the same box
Yes if we're at anyone else's house for Thanksgiving - it's a staple around here and it'll be homemade and excellent and possibly more than one person brought it

There is a restaurant nearby that serves delicious Mac and cheese. You can add items to it, like ham, broccoli, etc. I always get the one with ham in it as dinner whenever we go there. ETA - Just remembered, when the boys were young I would make them Mac and cheese and add chopped up hot dogs to it. They loved it.

I have never had mac & cheese as a side at either my family's or DH's family Thanksgiving dinners. I've been hosting now for 30+ years and I have never served it.

Occasionally I’ve seen it served as a thanksgiving side, but I more typically see it served as a side with bbq (ribs, chicken, pulled pork, etc.) I’ve also eaten it as a main dish—sometimes with stuff added and sometimes just as a comfort food meal.

I am so surprised. I always hear of people having it for holiday meals and we never did when I was growing up. I know my ex husband and ex fiancé both grew up having it as a Christmas dinner side. I thought I was just odd.

I think we only had it once at my moms - and that was mainly because all the kids were little and she thought they would like it.
My favorite Mac and Cheese is one by barefoot contessa - it has smoked Gouda and sliced tomatoes on top - my kids and I love it.

Sort of?
We never had it until about ten years ago when my sister decided we needed to add it. We all love mac and cheese so she started making it, and it was delicious. Then COVID hit so no get togethers for a year or so. Then she moved to Texas and if she was visiting didn't have a kitchen so we just skipped it. Now she's back in state, maybe temporarily and doesn't have her cooking supplies, so still no mac and cheese. My mom and I have enough to make so we'll do without it until maybe sis can start making it again. I miss it though!

No, we have mashed potatoes, stuffing, and rolls. No need for mac and cheese on top of all that!
I never thought of mac and cheese as being fancy enough for holidays, but I do make it for Christmas some years

Yes.. but also no lol
I'm either a turkey girl or a ham girl for Thanksgiving - never both. If I do ham then there's creamy homemade stovetop mac but if there's turkey that year then no mac.

I voted no but my sister-in-law did start bringing it for her grandchildren. None of the adults ate it.

I didn't pick an option.. I'm 'sometimes'
Sometimes it shows up and sometimes it doesn't, just depends on the crowd which changes every few years..

Yes, always.
Both my side of the family and DH’s side serve it.
But it has to be good southern, homemade, baked Mac and cheese. No boxed shit.
