Never had it at thanksgiving before but will be bringing leftovers this year. My daughter is home from college and requested home made Mac n cheese. My husband and I just finished grating the cheese and we did way too much so I’m going to make two batches and bring one. My sister in law serves a tofu Turkey so I feel like all the extra calories are warranted! Tofurkey? 🤢🤢🤢 That is just cruel!

My mac and cheese is a must for Thanksgiving, Christmas and Easter. If I didn’t make it, they’d revolt. .

No, and I had not heard of this until about 10 years ago. I don’t think that any of my friends serve it; I will have to ask.

I would never serve mac and cheese at Thanksgiving but my son and his wife do, so we had it on the table today.

It’s pretty traditional with some black families. It must be homemade and only certain people are allowed to make it.
And you NEVER alter the recipe.

Nope. Have never had mac & cheese at a holiday meal. But I'm a northerner.
I have a friend from work who lives in TX (Dallas-Forth Worth area) and her daughter moved to MA to work for the ME's office. So we invited her to Thanksgiving at my aunt's, no one should be alone on Thanksgiving. We were texting back and forth and she was like I love deviled eggs I'm going to bring some, and I said "huh, I don't know if I've ever had a deviled egg". I got a phone call from her mom 60 seconds later saying "YOU'VE NEVER HAD DEVILED EGGS!?!?!". But we were talking about Thanksgiving dishes and she's never had mac & cheese at Thanksgiving. I said we do: turkey, stuffing (not done in the turkey so I know it's dressing but I always call it stuffing), mashed potatoes, gravy, rolls, and a bunch of different veggies (cauliflower, turnips, squash). I was worried I wouldn't like the eggs and no one would eat them. Everyone pounced on them. They were so good.

I didn't move to the south (coastal NC) until I was in high school. Mac n cheese was a boxed item in my childhood (California) and typically eaten by children. It was also not something we ate a lot because most of our food was prepared from scratch, not boxed, due to cost. I envied the kids the got to eat Kraft Mac n cheese. We also didn't do Mac n cheese in NC. A lot of collards, okra, seafood, pork, duck, venison, homemade "lightening" rolls (the softest yeast rolls I've ever eaten in my life). I gained my freshman 15 my sophomore year of high school due to those rolls. I think Mac n cheese at any family gathering was more prevalent in black families in NC, or least that was the case in when I lived there. It's since become more common as a holiday dish in the south.

This is fun timing because we’ve been discussing this a lot. My sister made Mac & cheese this year, and I cannot recall ever having it as part of a Thanksgiving meal. My daughter was unable to join us this year, and she was telling us that her dh insisted that they have it as part of their dinner.

I noticed in the photos my great niece posted of her dinner, she had homemade mac and cheese and then her sister in law posted her family's dinner and it also had mac & cheese on the table. They are of the younger generation of early 20s if that matters.

We never had Mac and cheese for any holiday meal. It was what we ate when we had a fast meal.
Check out the foods here

It got added when the kids were little because they were suspicious of a lot of our Thanksgiving sides. They like the creamy kind, which isn't my jam.
