Oh Rep Comer who is hounding Hunter. Your house needs cleaning!! As Rep. James Comer (R-KY) began investigating Hunter Biden for his alleged use of shell companies to hide money made from his foreign business deals, it emerged last month that he in fact had his own shell company — which he quickly dismissed by claiming his company did legitimate business. But according to a new Daily Beast report, Comer's company doesn't have a very clean record. "A review of dozens of tax, real estate, and business filings in Kentucky and Tennessee indicate that Comer’s own personal 'books and records' are opaque at best — and improper at worst," reported Roger Sollenberger. "Those records include the dealings of Comer’s shell company, Farm Team Properties LLC, which the state of Kentucky has dissolved twice for failure to file annual reports — first in 2020, then again in 2022." *** Experts have said the Comer's reports on rental income appear to only show net income, not gross, which would be a violation of reporting requirements. Notably, most of the companies that Hunter Biden owns that Comer has accused of being "shell companies" actually have a stated business purpose, which would make it a stretch to call them shell companies. www.rawstory.com/james-comer-shell-company-2666907668/

My spouse has the subscription to digital NYTimes, but yesterday they had an article on Evangelical conservatives who are no longer attending church and a large factor of that is they've turned Trump into their golden calf. If someone else has a sub and can link, it's a really dystopian look at the cult of Trump. Oh no, what will the billionaire mega church pastors do without those donations! ( sarcasm )

Democrat or not this guy needs to resign. I get having your day in court but if you are indicted you don’t belong in Congress.

Not political. I forgot I follow Tom Cruise on twitter. Both Mission Impossible & Top Gun are Paramount pictures. With this new deal I wonder if we’ve seen the last of any new ones. He released this announcement….. ” Warner Bros. Motion Picture Group And Tom Cruise To Jointly Develop And Produce Original And Franchise Theatrical Films Starring Cruise Beginning In 2024 Under Newly Formed Strategic Partnership””Warner Bros. Motion Picture Group’s Co-Chairs and CEOs Michael De Luca & Pam Abdy and Tom Cruise today announced they will jointly develop and produce original and franchise theatrical films starring Cruise in 2024 under a new strategic partnership between Cruise and Warner Bros. Discovery. Cruise and his production company will have offices on the Warner Bros. Discovery lot in Burbank. The partnership marks a return to Warner Bros. for Cruise, whose storied filmography with the studio includes Edge of Tomorrow, Rock of Ages, The Last Samurai, Magnolia, Eyes Wide Shut, Interview with the Vampire, Risky Business and The Outsiders. Said De Luca and Abdy, “We are thrilled to be working with Tom, an absolute legend in the film industry. Our vision, from day one, has been to rebuild this iconic studio to the heights of its glory days, and, in fact, when we first sat down with David Zaslav to talk about joining the Warner Bros. Discovery team, he said to us, ‘We are on a mission to bring Warner Bros. back – we have the best resources, storytelling IP, and talent in the business – and we need to bring Tom Cruise back to Warner Bros!’ Today, that becomes a reality and we are one step closer to achieving our ambition. We couldn’t be more excited to welcome Tom back to Warner Bros. and look forward to bringing more of his genius to life on screen in the years ahead.” Me: The man is 61 how many years do you think he has left where he can do the crazy stunts that he seems to thrive on?

My spouse has the subscription to digital NYTimes, but yesterday they had an article on Evangelical conservatives who are no longer attending church and a large factor of that is they've turned Trump into their golden calf. If someone else has a sub and can link, it's a really dystopian look at the cult of Trump. Here's a gift article - no paywall. It's a fairly long article, here's a few selections. www.nytimes.com/2024/01/08/us/politics/donald-trump-evangelicals-iowa.html?unlocked_article_code=1.MU0.6HFQ.qXoPrB8VXn3d&smid=url-shareTrump Is Connecting With a Different Type of Evangelical Voter They are not just the churchgoing, conservative activists who once dominated the G.O.P.
“Trump is our David and our Goliath,” Ms. Johnson said recently as she waited outside a hotel in eastern Iowa to hear the former president speak.
...
But religion scholars, drawing on a growing body of data, suggest another explanation: Evangelicals are not exactly who they used to be.
Being evangelical once suggested regular church attendance, a focus on salvation and conversion and strongly held views on specific issues such as abortion. Today, it is as often used to describe a cultural and political identity: one in which Christians are considered a persecuted minority, traditional institutions are viewed skeptically and Mr. Trump looms large.
“Politics has become the master identity,” said Ryan Burge, an associate professor of political science at Eastern Illinois University and a Baptist pastor. “Everything else lines up behind partisanship.”
This is most true among white Americans, who over the course of Mr. Trump’s presidency became more likely to identify as “evangelical,” even as overall rates of church attendance declined.
What may matter more than endorsements and policy plans are Mr. Trump’s embrace of Christianity as a cultural identity — and his promises to defend it.
At a recent rally in Waterloo, Iowa, Mr. Trump cast Christians as a broadly persecuted group facing down a government weaponized against them. Catholics are the current target of “the communists, Marxists and fascists,” he said, citing a recent controversy about a retracted F.B.I. memo, and adding that “evangelicals will not be far behind.”
...
“People who love their country and believe in God, but haven’t been typical churchgoers — he’s brought those people into the fold,” said Jackson Lahmeyer, the founder of Pastors for Trump, a national group of church leaders backing the former president.
...
But the drop-off has had impacts far beyond individual spirituality. As ties to church communities have weakened, the church leaders who once rallied the faithful behind causes and candidates have lost influence. A new class of thought leaders has filled the gap: social media personalities and podcasters, once-fringe prophetic preachers and politicians.
...
The evolving evangelical identity is already scrambling how politicians appeal to these voters. Mr. Burge’s research has found that “cultural Christians” care relatively little about bedrock religious-right causes like abortion and pornography.
In interviews across Iowa, non-churchgoing Christians who supported Republican candidates, even those who said they believed in governing the country by Christian principles, cited immigration and the economy most often as their top issues in this year’s election.
...
“This election is part of a spiritual battle,” Mr. Tenney said. “When Donald Trump becomes the 47th president of the United States, there will be retribution against all those who have promoted evil in this country.”

I was looking for a Thomas Jefferson saying and ran across this one. In one of his rants trump claimed that any immigrant coming to this country must have the “right” religious beliefs. And you have those on the religious right thinking we all must live by their beliefs.
When I read this stuff I kept thinking about religious freedom and what it means.
Thomas Jefferson. This is on the Jefferson Memorial…
”Almighty God hath created the mind free. All attempts to influence it by temporal punishments or burthens...are a departure from the plan of the holy Author of our religion...No man shall be compelled to frequent or support religious worship or ministry or shall otherwise suffer on account of his religious opinions or belief, but all men shall be free to profess and by argument to maintain, their opinions in matters of religion. I know but one code of morality for men whether acting singly or collectively."
-Excerpted from A Bill for Establishing Religious Freedom, drafted in 1777. First introduced in the Virginia General Assembly in 1779, after he had become Governor. Passed by the Virginia Assembly in 1786, while Jefferson was serving as Minister to France. The last sentence is excerpted from a letter to James Madison, August 28, 1789, as he was returning to America to assume his position as Secretary of State.
Someone needs to remind those idiots on the right about this. Starting with trump and that Speaker of the House guy.

What a waste of time. Time that could be better spent coming up with solutions when dealing with the homeless.

He’s getting his day in court. So how is that the demise of the American Justice system. Especially when these indictments came from Grand Juries. I don’t get it.
“Habba: The fact that there is so much footage of me sitting in court next to the president is so sad and such a demise of the American Justice system
She really shoukd keep her mouth shut.
“Habba claims Jack Smith is the one who doesn’t want the law applied to him and suggests the other side is guilty of racketeering shortly after saying “they don’t want you to look at their behavior so they accuse him of it”

I see she is still blabbing. Just exactly how does “absolute immunity “ protect Americans? Anyone? Does she even understand what “absolute immunity “ to President would mean?
“Trump lawyer Alina Habba claims there is “established law” that presidents have ”absolute immunity” against criminal prosecutions.
“Absolute immunity, or what we call presidential immunity, is an immunity that exists to not only protect presidents, but protect Americans.”

Amalija Knavs, mother of the former U.S. First Lady, passed away at the age of 78. She was from Slovenia and used to work in a factory. She became a U.S. citizen with the help of her daughter Melania Trump, according to The New York Times.
Melania Trump announced her mother's death without mentioning the cause. It is with deep sadness that I announce the passing of my beloved mother, Amalija. Amalija Knavs was a strong woman who always carried herself with grace, warmth, and dignity. She was entirely devoted to her husband, daughters, grandson, and son-in-law. He could not follow the judges restrictions, which are in general routine, be he does not understand that. They were supposed to respond by 4pm Tuesday. The judge gave them until noon today. Kreis was in court, prior to noon, judge gave TFG until noon to answer. At 12:00 noon the judge ruled he could NOT appear tomorrow to speak.
* No harassing, talking about the Judge, staff, court officers, James or the prosecutors.
* No campaigning
* No new evidence
* I forget
Judge said IF TFG violated any part, he would escorted out of the room and fined at least $50,000 at a minimum!

YES!!! From Republican Accountability!! A 30-second incendiary anti-Trump ad ran on Fox News during the former president's town hall. I find it hard to believe that they would actually run this at any time but especially during a town hall with him. I bet a lot of fans are swearing at Fox and switching channels because they won’t believe anything bad about him. ETA. Too little too late at this point. I doubt it will change any minds.
