Paul Waldman for MSNBC… ”The "mystery" of Americans saying the economy is absolutely terrible isn't really a mystery. It's REPUBLICANS who tell pollsters that. It isn't the whole story of economic perceptions. But you can't tell the story without it. And before you say "But there are things that aren't as good as they should be!", yes there are. But Republicans tell pollsters they think the economy today is WORSE THAN IT WAS IN THE DEPTHS OF THE GREAT RECESSION. That's just bonkers.“ MSNBC Opinion piece.. “ Republicans’ views of the economy are completely detached from reality”It’s beyond doubt that partisanship plays a key role in what people tell pollsters about the economy. By Paul Waldman, author and commentator By most standard measures, the American economy is going gangbusters. GDP grew at a nearly 5% annualized pace in the third quarter, the best since late 2021. Unemployment sits at just 3.9%. Inflation, which had peaked at a 7.5% annual rate in January 2022, has fallen to 3.2%. Joe Biden can trumpet the fact that just under 14 million jobs have been created since he took office, a record for an American president. Over the comparable period in Donald Trump’s term — before the Covid-19 pandemic — fewer than 6 million jobs were created. And people are certainly acting like the economy is good: Consumer spending is strong, and Americans are starting new businesses at the highest rates since the Census Bureau began tracking this data in 2006. Yet when pollsters ask people how they think the economy is doing, they don’t just express concern. They say the economy is terrible. Every day, more ink is spilled exploring this “disconnect,” this “mystery,” this “puzzle.” Many of the factors analysts suggest as they try to explain are perfectly reasonable, and probably contribute to dim views of the economy. But most of the time, the most obvious and important explanation is overlooked: The polling data doesn’t show that Americans think the economy stinks so much as it shows that Republicans say it stinks. It’s hard to know whether Republicans actually believe this. But it’s beyond doubt that partisanship plays a key role in what people tell pollsters about the economy. Some partisanship has always existed in polling about the economy: When there’s a Democrat in the White House, Democrats are more likely to say the economy is good than Republicans, and both sides change their opinions when the White House changes hands. But this difference has grown in recent years — and grown unequally. A pair of economists who examined decades of polling data concluded, “While both Republicans and Democrats view the economy more favorably when their party controls the White House, the magnitude of this partisan bias is roughly two and a half times larger for Republicans than for Democrats.” We can see how that is playing out right now. In the latest edition of the University of Michigan’s Index of Consumer Sentiment, the average Democratic score is over twice as high as the Republican score. But what is most striking is just how awful Republicans say the economy is. Their index score for this month is significantly lower than the score they gave the economy in the depths of the Great Recession in 2008 and 2009, when the economy was bleeding hundreds of thousands of jobs every month. Yes, last year’s high inflation rates likely have lingering effects that go some way toward explaining the country’s supposedly sour mood. And there are certainly many reasons a particular person might feel bad about the economy even if, in relative terms, it’s doing much better than it was a few years ago. We have high inequality in America, high health care costs, unaffordable housing in many places and enormous student debt. Thanks to a long campaign to destroy collective bargaining, 9 in 10 workers lack union representation. But those are not recent developments; they were decades in the making and have persisted through Republican and Democratic presidencies. It’s absurd for anyone to honestly say that because a box of Frosted Flakes costs a buck or two more than it did a few years ago, that means the economy is worse than it was during the greatest economic crisis of our lifetimes. If someone says the economy of today is particularly bad — worse, even, than the Great Recession — then either they’re deluded or they’re lying. The response to this kind of argument is usually that we should not question the inherent truth of Americans’ lived experiences. Bandy about your economic statistics all you want, you snooty elitist; what matters is what people really feel, and you won’t convince them things are great by denying what they’re telling you about their own lives. But there’s evidence to suggest that Americans have a rosier view of the economy the more personal their experience gets. As already noted, Americans aren’t shying away from spending or starting businesses — two things that are usually less common if people feel their economic situation is precarious. And a recent Bloomberg/Morning Consult poll of swing state voters, for example, found that while just 26% think the American economy is on the right track, that number nearly doubles — to 49% — when they’re asked about their city or town. When you break poll results on the economy out by party identification, you see how eager Republicans are to say the economy is terrible. For instance, in the latest Economist/YouGov poll, a full 75% of Republicans said the economy is “getting worse,” an assertion that is false by almost every conceivable measure. I t isn’t hard to figure out why. The conservative media and the associated echo chamber is relentless in its insistence that with a Democrat in the White House, America is a land of unending misery and despair. And with the country as polarized as it is, even Republicans who don’t spend their evenings watching Fox News will be loath to say anything that might reflect well on Joe Biden. Telling a pollster “The economy is terrible!” isn’t much different than saying the same thing on X or Truth Social, a handy way to give Biden the finger if you’re so inclined.
That isn’t to say we should throw every poll about the economy in the trash. But it does mean that every report about Americans’ perceptions ought to include an extended discussion of how those perceptions are shaped by partisanship. It’s not the whole story, but you can’t tell the story without it.“
x.com/paulwaldman1/status/1728080985458200852?s=61&t=j45uMgNk1i8O0YllKF58nwA very truthful response… ”And if a Repub became President today they would claim the economy is great” And I would add that people would believe it. Just like the people believed the economy under trump was fantastic compared to when President Obama was president. But ignoring the simple fact that trump inherited a growing economy from President Obama. One that had a unemployment rate of 10+% to 4,7% when Obama left office.

Ted Cruz at his best tweeting false info and refuses to take it down!!
"This confirms our worst fear: the explosion at Rainbow Bridge was a terrorist attack," Senator Cruz, who sits on the Foreign Relations Committee, falsely claimed Wednesday afternoon. "Both attackers are dead, and one law enforcement officer is injured. I am praying that officer makes a full recovery and is able to spend Thanksgiving surrounded by family and loved ones. Thank you to our law enforcement officers who are remaining vigilant and working to protect Americans traveling for Thanksgiving."

Derek Chauvin has been stabbed in federal prison..... Thoughts & prayers. I saw a tweet on IG and some in the comments weren’t broken up about that. Someone else came on and hand slapped all of them saying that what chauvin did wasn’t acceptable but cheering someone getting stabbed was also unacceptable and they didn’t want to be a part of a society that cheered a person getting stabbed. I’m not exactly cheering Chauvin getting stabbed. But I’m not exactly broken up about it either. What he did in the video that I’ve seen at least a hundred times now dehumanized him to me so I don’t care much what happens to him in prison. I didn’t wish it. I’m not cheering. I’m just emotionally neutral about it. If anything I’m curious because I thought that for their safety all (former) cops were kept out of population for their own protection. So if there’s any ‘emotion’ I’m having it’s curious as to why he wasn’t seperate. But I’m not even curious enough to google and look into why. I just don’t care. He took himself to less than level to me by his own actions that I’ve since seen so many times that I can’t really muster up much in the line of emotions for this event. Seeing that tweet just brought my sadness & anger for George Floyd to the surface again. But for Chauvin, I don’t have any feelings beyond curiosity. Maybe that makes me a bad person but I can live with that.

I think that about sums up my feelings when I type "thoughts & prayers", because that seems to be the exact attitude that the people who continue to say that in reaction to ACTUAL tragedies have had. Although, I did see a post where a person responded with "is the knife okay?" and I laughed. Some people's humor! I did check, after reading your post though and found this Derek Chauvin stabbed... for reference sake. I would say that this kind of "high profile" injury sustained in a prison should lead to more questions and support of prisons that have been plagued with issues, but we all know nothing will happen. We are a for profit country and who cares how we get there? I hope Chauvin recovers (it sounds like he will, unless someone else intervenes) and can serve his time in fear.

When one listens to this rant do they even wonder why there may be a push to phase out gas stoves? Or do these idiots think those who are suggesting phasing out gas stoves just got up one morning and thought “let’s stick it to those who like to cook with gas and take away their stoves for giggles”? When did the masses stop questioning things? Acyn…. ”Hurt: No, they do want to take away the gas stoves and, in fact, they are taking away the gas stoves… because they hate us. They hate joyfulness. Joe Scarborough…. ”Hostage exchange back on after Biden call” ~@washingtonpost” Matthew Chapman…. ”People are suddenly rediscovering that Biden actually knows what he's doing on foreign policy.” x.com/joenbc/status/1728499976840401303?s=61&t=j45uMgNk1i8O0YllKF58nwIMO the most important requirement for a president in this point in time is experience. Especially when it comes to Foreign Policy. Also IMO when folks criticize President Biden they do it for things no president has control over while ignoring what he has accomplished. Then folks go on about how someone younger should run for president, but definitely not Kamala Harris. When asked why not Kamala Harris and what specifically can a younger less experienced candidate can do better then President Biden, especially if they had the same House and Senate the voters gave President Biden to work with, you get silence. Which makes me think some don’t know what they want and some are ill informed which could go a long way in explaining why the democracy of this country is at stake at this point in time.

That's just bonkers.“ MSNBC Opinion piece.. “ Republicans’ views of the economy are completely detached from reality”Didn’t want to quote the whole thing, but did want to comment. I had the (dis)pleasure of having a conversation with my sister who lives in TN last week. She started out on some rant about Biden and the economy and I asked her what she was talking about. Up here in MN there are help wanted signs up EVERYWHERE and there have been for years now. If someone wanted a job they don’t need to look too hard or even try too hard to get hired somewhere. I commented that wages for even part time employees are way up compared to what they were. She said like what? I said even retail places like Target and fast food places like McDonalds are starting PT people at $15-17 an hour. I’m talking high school kids with NO experience anywhere. She replied, “You can’t support a family on that!” And I said I didn’t say you could. I said PT EMPLOYEES are getting that to START, FT people would obviously make more and experienced workers would make more. 🤪🙄 She went on to say, “Well down here the economy is crap and people are really struggling. Young people can’t buy a house. People can’t afford to live.” I had the hardest time biting my tongue and not saying, “I’m really not surprised based on some of the clowns you all have elected in your state.” But I knew it wouldn’t land well so I just didn’t. Then she continued on with her rant about how main stream media is lying to everyone about everything, how Covid vaccines don’t work, OMG on and on. I finally had to cut her off with a “Look at the time! Got to go!” Because it is all just completely nuts how totally brainwashed she has become since moving down there. The really ironic thing is that just 15-20 minutes earlier in the conversation before she said people can’t afford to buy a house, she said that she and BIL are expanding the smaller house they bought two years ago when they downsized. This was after they flipped the five bedroom house they bought cheap, remodeled and made a buttload of money on. This is the fourth house they’ve lived in since they moved there. The fourth house they bought dirt cheap, after buying cheap, renovating and flipping the previous three at a huge profit. But somehow that doesn’t factor into why people can’t find affordable housing where she lives. 🤪 The disconnect is real.

Santos say he can't be pushed out ... Among other things, these are his closing words... Sound familiar? "I'm not running for reelection because I don't want to work with a bunch of hypocrites. It's gross," he continued. "I have colleagues who are more worried about getting drunk every night with the next lobbyists they're going to screw and pretend like none of us know what's going on and sell off the American people. Not show up to vote because they're too hung over or whatever the reason is, or not show up to vote at all and just give their card out like f---ing candy for someone else to vote for them. This s--- happens every single week... These members behave abominably." Santos had particular disdain for Rep. Michael Guest (R-Mississippi), who chairs the ethics committee, challenging him to make the expulsion a "privileged" motion — meaning it would take precedence over all pending matters. The embattled Congressman said Guest "should be a man and stop being a p---y and call the damn motion." "It ain't gonna be the dude from Mississippi that's gonna kick me, a New Yorker, out of Congress," Santos said roughly 40 minutes into the recording. While Santos didn't name names, he suggested that other members routinely cheat on their spouses and violate House rules, while lamenting that there were no ethics committee investigations into their behavior. Santos' hints at illicit behavior from his colleagues harkens back to when former Rep. Florida is working toward that ... Man leaves meeting collapses in hallway of Governor's ignored for over 20 minutes... Peter Antonacci, Gov. Ron DeSantis’s handpicked choice last year to lead the state’s controversial new elections fraud office, collapsed and died in a hallway in the governor’s office moments after “abruptly” leaving a contentious meeting on Sept. 23, 2022. That Antonacci, 74, was stricken in the governor’s office was kept secret at the time. Instead, authorities only said he died while at work in the Capitol building, of which the governor’s office is a part. Florida Department of Law Enforcement records released to Florida Bulldog also say Antonacci lay dead or dying on the hallway floor of the governor’s office for more than 20 minutes before anyone apparently noticed and came to his aid. More precisely, 24 minutes, in a hallway under real time video-only surveillance. By the time a Capitol police officer arrived a minute or two later and hooked the pulseless Antonacci up to an automated external defibrillator (AED), the machine that can administer a life-saving electrical shock to victims of sudden cardiac arrest assessed Antonacci and advised that “no shock” was needed. Plaza level in the Florida Capitol Building. The precise location of the conference room and the hallway where Peter Antonacci collapsed have not been made public. Image: United Way of Florida The meeting Antonacci attended that day was in a conference room in the governor’s office. An FDLE report says the attendees were Secretary of State James “Cord” Byrd, his general counsel Bradley McVay, FDLE Commissioner Mark Glass, FDLE Chief of Staff Shane Desguin, FDLE director of executive investigations Scott McInerney, Antonacci’s deputy Scott Strauss and two men and three women tagged only as “unidentified.” Elsewhere, however, one attendee is identified as FDLE general counsel Ryan Newman. Secretary of State James “Cord” Byrd. The FDLE reports, which you read here, say that cameras in the meeting room and the hallway captured video of what happened, but no audio. Investigating FDLE Agent Larry Shallar watched the video. “At approximately 1:46 p.m., Mr. Antonacci is observed standing up and walking out of the conference room [WORDS REDACTED],” his report says. “Upon exiting the conference room, Mr. Antonacci is observed staggering as he moved forward until he collapsed to the floor. Mr. Antonacci did not appear to move once he collapsed to the floor. The meeting’s agenda and what was discussed are not mentioned in the five reports. DeSantis, with the Legislature’s approval, established the Office of Election Crimes and Security to maintain “election integrity” in the wake of ex-President Donald Trump’s drumbeat of unsupported claims that his 2020 loss to President Joe Biden was the result of voter fraud. WHAT THE VIDEO SHOWS Ezoic “At approximately 2:10 p.m. FDLE Commissioner Mark Glass is observed responding to Mr. Antonacci on the floor and initiated life saving measures (CPR; cardiopulmonary resuscitation) with the assistance of FDLE Chief of Staff Shane Desguin. At approximately 2:11 p.m. FDLE Capitol Police is observed responding to Mr. Antonacci with the AED (automated external defibrillator) and assisting with life saving measures until Leon County Emergency Medical Services arrived,” Shallar’s report says. Florida Bulldog requested the FDLE’s public records in February after receiving a tip that Antonacci had died in the governor’s office following an argument with DeSantis. The FDLE reports, however, make no mention of DeSantis being present. glass antonacci FDLE Commissioner Mark Glass Detailed requests for public records about the meeting were also sent to Secretary of State James “Cord” Byrd, who attended the meeting and oversees the Office of Election Crimes and Security, and the governor’s Office of Open Government in October have yet to draw a substantive response. The FDLE released 17 redacted pages. To justify the redactions, FDLE Assistant General Counsel Janine Robinson cited state laws that exempt from disclosure certain security and fire safety information, as well as the names of family of exempt personnel. The context of the redactions, however, did not plainly show how they qualified for exemptions. The redacted information appeared mostly to refer to the spot where Antonacci collapsed. Security cameras video reviewed by investigating FDLE agents, and still photographs they took at the scene, were completely withheld. Robinson said they would not be made public because they are subject to the same security and fire safety exemption, or the privacy provisions of the federal Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPPA). COULD ANTONACCI HAVE BEEN SAVED? Ezoic Antonacci, who served as Broward’s Supervisor of Elections from 2018-2020, had a reputation as as political “Mr. Fix-It.” He was appointed by DeSantis in July 2022 as the state’s first director of the Office of Election Crimes and Security. Before that, he’d handled a range of political assignments under Republican and Democratic administrations. His peripatetic career included job titles like statewide prosecutor, deputy attorney general, CEO of Enterprise Florida, general counsel to Gov. Rick Scott, Palm Beach state attorney, executive director of the South Florida Water Management District and chief judge of the Division of Administrative Hearings. While the FDLE reports include such mundane observations as how Antonacci was dressed – “a sky blue shirt, dark blue dress coat, and gray dress pants” – they stand out for what’s missing: the identities of everyone attending the meeting and any inquiry as to why Antonacci lay undiscovered on the hallway floor for so long. The immediate question: Could Antonacci have been saved by quicker action? “Commissioner Glass stated they were talking there for approximately a minute or so and General Counsel Newman started to depart when he looked down the hallway toward the doorway going into the [WORDS REDACTED]. Commissioner Glass stated when looking down the hallway he observed what appeared to be dark slacks and black shoes laying on the ground toes face down…He stated he observed from the hip back and he looked at General Counsel Newman asking if that was Mr. Antonacci.” The two men then ran over to Antonacci, rolled him over on his left side “putting him in a breathing position to allow him to get maximum air” before rolling him on his back and starting chest compressions. FDLE general counsel Ryan Newman In an interview with FDLE investigators that day, FDLE Commissioner Mark Glass told how about 25 minutes after Antonacci departed the room he stepped into the hallway to talk with his general counsel, Ryan Newman. When Antonacci fell he hit his forehead head on the corner of a door or a doorknob. There as a small, bleeding cut. Glass said Antonacci’s face “was purple and blue.” Glass checked for a pulse and found none, the report says. FDLE CHIEF OF STAFF HEARD ‘THUD’ Glass yelled twice for Chief of Staff Desguin. Desguin told investigators that once he heard Glass “he knew at that point something was wrong based on Commissioner Glass’ tone of voice and due to him hearing a thud at some point.” Ezoic byrd antonacci FDLE Chief of Staff Shane Desguin At first, the report says, Desguin “advised everyone to stay in the room because he didn’t know if Commissioner Glass was hurt or someone had breached the Governor’s Office.” He then “started to remove his duty firearm from its holster, but returned his duty firearm to its holster when he exited the door and observed Commissioner Glass on his knees over Mr. Antonacci.” Desguin said his boss instructed him to “get 911” and an AED machine. He left the hallway and summoned help. Desguin told investigators: “The AED was applied and activated and advised it could not produce a shock.” Desguin and Glass rotated chest compressions for six to eight minutes, and initiated use of an “Ambu Bag,” or artificial manual breathing unit, until EMS arrived. “Desguin stated during the meeting Mr. Antonacci had moments of being frustrated with parts of the meeting or the way the meeting was going,” the report says. But Desguin added that he observed no “signs of Mr. Antonacci having a medical issue.” FDLE Director Scott McInerney told a similar story, saying an “agitated” Antonacci had “abruptly” risen from his seat and walked out. Agents, however, did not appear to bore down on the question as to why Antonacci became upset. Like Desguin, McInerney unholstered his weapon after Glass call out, thinking there was possibly an active shooter. “Director McInerney stated the room had approximately 10 to 15 people in it and they were giving them directions to stay back. (He) stated some of the individuals began to get under the conference room table.” MEDICAL EXAMINER NOT CALLED The FDLE reports caution that the report’s references to the statements of Glass, Desguin and McInerney were synopses. The FDLE did not release either transcripts or audio recordings of their interviews and gave no reason for that omission. Antonacci was transported to Tallahassee Memorial Hospital where, at 2:47 p.m., he was pronounced dead by an emergency room physician identified in the report as Dr. Escobar. The report says that Antonacci’s widow, Tallahassee lawyer Anne Longman, and his primary physician, Dr. Stacia Groll, stated that Antonacci “had a long history of heart disease and cardiac issues that resulted in several surgeries. Based on this medical history, Dr. Groll was willing and did sign off on the death certificate.” Still, a Florida medical examiner who spoke with Florida Bulldog said that given the circumstances it was unusual that no autopsy was performed. “I’m wondering why he didn’t go through the medical examiner’s office seeing that he died in the governor’s office. Wouldn’t they want to do that, just to CYA? I mean, gosh, [Gov. Lawton] Chiles died at the executive mansion and he went through the medical examiner’s office.” www.floridabulldog.org/2023/11/peter-antonacci-stricken-governors-office-lay-hallway-24-minutes-before-noticed/

George Takei….
”A Democrat was in the White House when my family was sent to the internment camps in 1941. It was an egregious violation of our human and civil rights.
It would have been understandable if people like me said they’d never vote for a Democrat again, given what had been done to us.
But being a liberal, being a progressive, means being able to look past my own grievances and concerns and think of the greater good. It means working from within the Democratic party to make it better, even when it has betrayed its values.
I went on to campaign for Adlai Stevenson when I became an adult. I marched for civil rights and had the honor of meeting Dr. Martin Luther King. I fought for redress for my community and have spent my life ensuring that America understood that we could not betray our Constitution in such a way ever again.
Bill Clinton broke my heart when he signed DOMA into law. It was a slap in the face to the LGBTQ community. And I knew that we still had much work to do. But I voted for him again in 1996 despite my misgivings, because the alternative was far worse. And my obligation as a citizen was to help choose the best leader for it, not to check out by not voting out of anger or protest.
There is no leader who will make the decision you want her or him to make 100 percent of the time. Your vote is a tool of hope for a better world. Use it wisely, for it is precious. Use it for others, for they are in need of your support, too.

Senate Democrats have passed a resolution through the Rules Committee that overcomes Tommy Tuberville's military blockade of 350 nominations & Senator Schumer just announced he will bring it to the Senate floor for a final vote "swiftly." It's over, Tommy Tuberville x.com/victorshi2020/status/1728966620545179673?s=61&t=j45uMgNk1i8O0YllKF58nw

What is it about Republican lawmakers that they hate to produce the verifiable facts to justify laws they want to pass? Democracy Docket…. “ BREAKING: U.S. Supreme Court rules Arizona lawmakers must produce documents and testify about two voter suppression laws requiring strict citizenship proof for voting. The lawmakers sought to escape having to release records and submit to depositions.“ x.com/democracydocket/status/1729233357538795911?s=61&t=j45uMgNk1i8O0YllKF58nw

How would he know? Seriously how would he know? And what a slap in the face to the men and women currently serving.
Acyn…
“Tuberville: We have the weakest military than we’ve probably had in my lifetime”
A couple of responses…
”Based on what, Tommy? Based on what?”
Good point….
”He mentions we have the weakest military he's ever witnessed, yet he lacks direct service experience to validate such claims. It's quite baffling how someone can make such assertions without having served themselves.”
Well if this isn’t kind of scary. And something to ponder.
”Tuberville may be stalling nominations so if trump gets in power their appointments won't say no to a dictator...”

Speaking about TFG and dumping the ACA.. and the GOP has no interest in dumping it!! Over the holiday week, Donald Trump decided that his new campaign issue would be eliminating the Affordable Care Act, known as Obamacare. As it turns out, Republicans aren't enthusiastic.Trump explained that he's "seriously looking at alternatives" to the legislation, claiming the failure to repeal and replace it was "a low point for the Republican Party." The GOP held power in the House, Senate and White House at the time, but Trump still couldn't get it done. Politico reporter Burgess Everett spoke to members of the Senate Monday afternoon, and it doesn't seem Trump's plan will go anywhere even if the Republicans win back the Senate. Sen. John Thune (R-SD), “Boy, I haven’t thought about that one a while." But Sen. Shelley Moore Capito (R-WV) was less polite. “I don't see that as being the rallying cry," she said on Monday. Sen. Chuck Grassley (R-IA) also dismissed it, saying, “I don’t hear any Republicans talking about it." Indeed, it isn't a campaign issue in the 2024 election because most Republicans have given up on the idea that they can repeal and replace it. Since its passage in 2010, nearly 15 years ago, candidates have campaigned with the "repeal and replace Obamacare," message. When given the opportunity to do so, however, the repeal failed because Sen. John McCain (R-AZ) said they had nothing to replace it with. “We’ve gotten so far down the road now that it’s almost technically impossible to do that," said Sen. Thom Tillis (R-NC). "But there is a way to get rid of all the bad and hopefully put some good back in place."Trump is among those who campaigned on the message in 2016, but in the seven years since then, he has yet to bring together anyone who could craft a replacement plan. www.rawstory.com/trump-repeal-replace-obamacare/

Below is a headline. This has been mentioned more than once. But can you imagine living in an America where the military would/could be used against its own citizens?
”Trump hints at expanded role for the military within the US”
