I've really enjoyed getting to know everyone in our little group better and I'm so glad you talked me into the online crops - they're awesome. I'll be doing baking prep for Saturday. I can't believe the year is almost over, it's gone by so fast for me. what are you baking? I agree the year has sped past. I won't be able to drop in to chat on Friday if anyone strts a crop: dd is dropping dgs off Friday afternoon and then she is leaving for the airport to go to her conference, and I will be heading with the boy to a hockey game two hours away. busy, busy! grammadee - are you doing a mid-week crop this week or next? I got most of the Advent decorating done yesterday - still need to do the village but the space is cleared off and the boxes are in the room. We might try and get the trees up earlier this year - I usually wait until close to the 4th Sunday of Advent but that's Christmas Eve and I've put it up on Christmas Eve before but since I'll be assembling them myself this year...I might give myself a bit more time. We can always wait to decorate until school is out (22nd) Dh sees his eye doctor this morning. Hoping for good news but anticipating the probablity of more surgery before Christmas, possibly as soon as Thursday.

Linda , no mid week crops this week OR next. Sorry. Just under three weeks til Christmas and I will have the boy for one of them and be gone another, so I can't settling in and do ANYTHING for longer than five minutes while I scurry around doing all "the things" before the season just whips on by me...

I have to echo joyfulnana and grammadee in gratitude for the friendships we have forged here. The Pandemic really isolated me, and I liked it too much, as long as I could chat here. I am trying little by little to get back into life activities again. But I always turn to this group when I need validation or need to share. Thank you all for your kindness. I didn't write much in my Christmas cards, but I want you to know how much I love being friends with all of you. Linda, congrats to DD on the SAT. I hope she did as well as she thought. I'm out the door to take DH for a haircut. Maybe I can finish the rest of my cards while waiting in the car for him. I'm about half way through.

Good luck Dh saw the eye dr again this morning - and he's booked in for another surgery Thursday morning -this time they are removing his lens and doing some clean out behind it...which will require yet another surgery to implant a new lens down the road. Did he ask about the timeframe for that? no, no he didn't.

I'm baking cut out sugar cookies, @grammadees ginger snaps and I'm going to try spritz cookies. I love them, but I have a hard time finding a good recipe. One of my cookbooks has in big bold sharpie next to the recipe "DO NOT USE" lol. I'm sorry DH didn't ask about time frames. That would be my first question lol. The surgeries sound pretty serious. It feels like since Christmas day is on Monday, it's thrown off the flow of the season, and the month for me. It feels too early to be baking, but in 2 more weekends (when I bake) it's here. grammadee I hope you manage to fit a little tiny bit of rest in there somewhere! I feel like such a slacker compared to you lol. nylene I liked the pandemic time at home too much too. I've always been a homebody, the pandemic only reinforced it lol. Some days I would love it if we were all told to stay home again.

I won't be available for online crops on Friday either. We have a Ward Christmas Party and I need to go take photos for the bulletin board. We haven't been to one for years because the noise of a huge group of kids having fun in the gym plays havoc with DH's hearing aids. It's mostly for the younger crowd and I think Santa will pay a visit. I don't think we will stay long. Alex and friend will be here after school to bring all the boxes upstairs. I have moved furniture taken down decor to be replaced by Christmas. I think I am ready for them to come and work hard. Gorgeous page, scrappyrabbit ! She's an angel. joyfulnana , you and I would get along well together. The pandemic was a rest period for me and I got used to it. It's hard to get back in the swing of regular life. Good luck with all the baking. Linda , I hope that the doctors can do something to help your DH. He has really gone through a lot the past few months. Can he see through that eye right now? We got a call yesterday that the Low Vision people had a CCTV available for Steve if he could pick it up in Lehi. We were just 2 towns over at the time, getting his hair cut, so we dashed over. I think if he can get used to using it he will be happy that he can do some reading again. It is his to use for as long as it is helpful to him. grammadee , I agree that I hope you can get some down time in all that you are doing. We don't want your batteries running down!

A sweet page for a sweet little one, scrappyrabbit. grammadee , I agree that I hope you can get some down time in all that you are doing. We don't want your batteries running down! Think I will be okay today: baking gingerbread people, and I think instead of nickel/cadmium, my batteries are actually nutmeg/cinnamon I had planned to make my little no bake Christmas trees, but they need coconut and this nut didn't buy any, so they will have to wait until I get to town to get some. Tomorrow I hope to put out my Christmas geese. The tub has been in the living room for a week & a half, so it's past time they go up on top of the china cabinet. Dgs will be here all day Saturday, so hoping he has time between making his Christmas cards and helping Grampa outside to help with the rest of the decorating and lug the tubs downstairs.

It is his to use for as long as it is helpful to him. no, he can't see in that eye right and while he can see in the other, there's distortion. He has found a headlamp/magnifier that's helping some and he's been reading a little again and working on his Lego - I'm so glad because it's been hard with him unable to do hobbies after work - just veg in front of the TV. He's expecfting to have some vision back - just really blurry -after tomorrow's surgery. He has an appt today with his PCP because he had a callus on his big toe and managed to do something (just walking) and the callus mostly came off the toe - he says it doesn't hurt (which worries me - it certainly SHOULD hurt based on appearance and bleeding) so I insisted on him having it looked at. Hoping that doesn't derail tomorrow's surgery. I'm so glad that your DH has gotten the CCTV and I hope it works well for him. I'm canning turkey broth today and finishing up sewing gift bags for our book exchange. It's St Nicholas Day so DH and DD17 found treats in their shoes this morning - dd had a chocolate orange, chocolate coins, a candy cane, and a Christmas ornament of a grey tabby (looks like her Dorian). DH had a Christmas ornament of an orange tabby (like his Pad-Bear). I had sent treats home with DS32 and DD23 also - the orange, coins, candy cane, and an ornament each - bees for DS and a squirrel for DD) - I got a photo of their filled shoes with the treat bags from me next to them...I love that they are continuing that tradition.

Happy Wednesday! Waving hi and hope you are all doing well today. I see lots of you are getting your holiday decorations and recipes going. Not sure when I will start decorating. Probably soon. We went to several big box stores over the weekend and I saw some beautiful decor items. I did buy a Christmas front doormat from At Home. Just love that store! Monday night, we went to our city's Christmas Tree Lighting. There were lots of people and the kids were having a ball with all the activities. The tree is gorgeous and I got some pictures. Thanks to all of you that watched my premiere "Glitter & Glamour" art show! It was such a blessing and joy for me to create these creations and the video. I think I enjoyed making the video almost as much as the art. I am excited today! I bought this large 25x40 inch canvas back in January and it has been sitting waiting for me. Well, this week I pulled it out and started looking at it. Today, I tore the plastic off and will start the base layers. Not sure what I will create but have an idea. This is the largest canvas I have ever worked on and it should be a fun challenge. My "Inspired Models" from the video are 16x20. I have done a few 20x20 so this giant size is gonna be an adventure! joyfulnana- Yes, I used a floral stencil I have had for ages and I just love it. I was thinking of a name for the Asian model that sounded French like the other girls. Jade just popped in my head first. Then I saw Angelique and thought the two name together would be fun. Ron liked the idea, too. nylene- Thanks for the art cheers. You have really seen my growth from when I started 12 or 13 years ago to now. Hugs! I was looking at your latest layouts of Angie and her family. What lovely family pictures. The kids are almost grown. grammadee- Your cookies look delicious!!! Wow! Your cards in the gallery look so great. linda- Oh, I remember the SAT! Whew! I hope your dd does well. St Nicolas Day? I haven't heard of it. Tell us about it. Sounds wonderful.

St Nicolas Day? I haven't heard of it. Tell us about it. Sounds wonderful. In several countries - and Germany is the one I'm most familiar with as I lived there as a small child - St Nicholas (Santa Claus is derived from him via the Dutch Sinterklaas) fills boots set by the door the night of Dec 5th so children wake up on the 6th to goodies in their boot. My parents borrowed the tradition when we lived there and continued it when we moved away (we're not German ourselves) and I've continued it with my children. I remember as a child we would get birch branches with candy or small toys tied on to them but once we left Germany, we didn't have those. The gold wrapped chocolate coins are because the Catholic St Nicholas in the 3rd century is known for providing a dowry for some girls from a poor family by dropping coins down their chimney that fell into their stockings hung by the fire to dry. (our Christmas stocking traditions stem from that as well). We do a chocolate orange but years ago oranges were a holiday treat - I remember my dad telling us he got an orange and some nuts in his stocking at Christmas. The candy cane is symbolic of the bishop's staff (which in turn is modeled on a shepherd's crook) and St Nicholas was a Bishop. And we always add a Christmas ornament for their personal trees to start a collection for when they move out.

Thinking of you and your dh today, Linda. Hoping all goes well and this will do the trick to clear up his vision. Dh had laser surgery a few years ago and went without glasses for awhile but he is now back to needing them. Picked up his new pair on Tuesday. (Thank goodness he decided to drive by himself to get them, so I had some time here to bumble through my xmas tasks.) Have my little coconut "trees" drying on a pan waiting for their white chocolate "snow" on their tops. Meanwhile I sent dh to deliver some icing sugar to a neighbour. There is a strike at the sugar plant, so shelves here are bare. Saw our neighbour at the store when I picked up coconut. He was standing at those empty shelves looking lost with a list in his hand, saying, "There's no icing sugar?" I told him I had some extra I picked up a month or so ago in prep for holiday baking. They haven't called to ask for it (they are the type who give help but don't ask for any), so I sent the extra bag this morning. Okay, off to organize some Christmas geese...

Thank you grammadee - surgery seemed to go well and they didn't end up removing the lens which was good news. He has a follow-up appointment tomorrow where they'll remove the bandages etc... That was so kind of you to send icing sugar over to your neighbours...I'm guessing you are also the type that give help easier than asking for it I'm exhausted today so not sure how much I'll accomplish - I was up at 545 and didn't sleep well at all.

Happy Thursday! Hope you are having a nice day. Here is the link to a good recipe I saw in my cooking class this week. It was two skillet meal- penne pasta and enchilada. I want to try these because you make the ground beef and use it on the two dishes. Plus, no oven is good for me. Link Herelinda- Thanks for telling us about the holiday. So cool that you have that tradition from your childhood and have shared it with your children. Also, so glad your dh did fine today. I hope you get some rest, too. Prayers for you both.

Linda that's so cool that the big kids are carrying on the family traditions. And I love the traditions your family has. I hope DH is able to see better soon, I can't imagine how hard that is for him, when he has hobbies that he really enjoys. I hope you get some rest. nylene I hope the CCTV helps DH, so he can do some reading, I'm excited for him with all the resources available for him there. Enjoy the Christmas party! kellyr21 your art show is awesome, I can't wait to see what you do with that giant canvas! Thanks for linking the recipe, that is right up my alley. More than two meals and no oven lol. grammadee I hope you are getting some rest too. @scrapprabbit that is a precious layout, and such a precious photo. I wish I had been a scrapbooker when my kids were born, I would have way more pictures of them at that age if I had been. gramma sending you some love and (((hugs))) My tree is up, but that's about it so far and it's starting to feel like Christmas is practically here so now I'm wondering if I want to put out the rest lol. I had a lot of new ornaments since I got a new tree. Rudy put the hooks on. He said he didn't know putting on hooks was so much fun lol. He's a nut. I decided I was being way toooo ambitious trying to do all of that baking this weekend, so it will be the cut out sugar cookies, and then maybe one other. Need to get molasses tonight for the ginger snaps - I'm really looking forward to those.

Thank you kellyr21 - good luck with your giant canvas! I'm sure it'll be beautiful Thanks joyfulnana - we love our traditions also but we're a transition stage and struggling a little with adapting them to all adults. No tree up here but I have at least figured out where they are going. And DD17 did assemble the Christmas village for me. I think the trees might be this weekend - that'll be early for us but next weekend is jampacked and then with Christmas eve on the weekend...time is at a premium this year. Today I have some canning to do and DH's work Christmas party this evening - provided his eye dr gives the go ahead (he's there now - so hopefully good news). Tomorrow is the holiday market downtown so we'll probably go there. And then home for more Christmas prep.

Linda, you and your DH have been on my mind so much the past couple of days. I am praying for good vision and a good prognosis when the bandages come off. Eyes are sooo important. I understand your being tired. When I am worrying about a surgery for DH, I find that I feel like I have worked hard all day. Stress can do such a number on us as spouses. Hang in there. Thank you for the Christmas traditions. I love hearing about what your family does during the holidays. Keep telling us your activities! kellyr21, I really want to see what you do with that big canvas! I have loved watching your art develop over the years. I especially love watching the process video! joyfulnana, what fun that Rudy enjoys even putting the hooks on the ornaments. Alex and his friend worked really hard on Wed and brought up all the village boxes and the tree stuff. We got most of the houses up and lighted before they left. They stowed all the boxes under the tables saying they were playing tetris! Those boxes are packed in there professionally. grammadee, I love your gingerbread boys and the matching card! I haven't started any baking yet, and will probably not do much more than the fruitcake DH loves. I am so impressed with all your baking. My tree is up and looking pretty sad. It drops more needles than a real one would. It's old and has developed spots that I can't seem to fill in. It's just dilapidated and needs to be replaced. We think we will do it every year, but the time gets away from us and we stow it away again. I put the lights and garland on it today and will start with ornaments this afternoon. I hope it looks better after decorating! All my Christmas cards have been sent! That's a big job I'm happy to have finished. All but one neighbor and friends gifts delivered and I will do that tonight. I think I'm more ready for Christmas a bit early this year. Have a great weekend, everyone.

nylene - thank you. This morning's appt was frustrating - he didn't see the surgeon, just one of the associates - and he felt like the dr he saw contradicted the surgeon on some after-care stuff and assumed the surgeon had done specific procedures that the surgeon hadn't mentioned in his post-surgical wrap-up. He sees the surgeon a week Monday so hopefully all that will be clarified. He's also disappointed that there wasn't much (any) improvement in vision once the bandages came off but I think I remember last time, it was supposed to improve as he healed (but of course the complications interfered with that) so hopefully there will be improvement with time. I'm glad your tree is up - sounds like you need to go tree shopping during the after-Christmas sales though. I'm sure once it's decorated it'll be beautiful. canned the last of the turkey broth this morning, caught up on laundry and dishes, and other housework. No crafty time today

Linda, I am so sorry that the appt didn't go better with the Surgeon's office. I hope that his vision will clear up as he heals. It's discouraging to go through all that and not feel like you are getting the attention you need from the surgeon. You are in my prayers and will remain there. Hugs to both of you. Wish I could do something to help!

Hi Pokeys! I am decorating a tree tonight, as it's the first evening we are all home. Work/school schedules are always conflicting, but worse with the Holidays as many of us have extra or overtime shifts. DH is at the post office, so what can you expect? DD is a waitress (in her not-so-spare-time) so after her exams are over this week she will be filling in extra there for the regulars who want some time off. (side note - in Canada, wait staff make minimum wage, not like in the US where they get peanuts. PLUS tips. So DD often makes $45+/hour when she works. So glad I went to school for 7 years...) And I'm scheduled 2 out of the next 3 weekends joyfulnana, kids are so funny at what they find "fun"! Katie loved washing the lower kitchen cupboards when she was 8 and 9. Sigh, I wish she still did... Are you opening a crop tonight? I will join a little later (like 7:30ish?) if you are! I have to finish my MIL's calendar by Monday. Linda - so very sorry your DH didn't get some immediate sense that things were improving. Being told "this *should* improve* as you heal" is not much comfort. I'll add him to my prayers too. nylene - get a new tree! I inherited my Dad's tree which has the lights pre-attached. It's very nice - easy to put up, and with a little effort to "fluff" the branches it is really full and gorgeous. Not having to put on the lights is a life changer. Plus, I can change the colour/pattern of the lights with the press of a button. We always enjoyed our real trees, but I'm a convert for the ease of lights (and small footprint, and no water/needles) for sure. Congrats on finishing cards. I have to write/sign/mail family and friend cards this weekend. But I'm ahead of schedule this year. Baking: grammadee, that was SO NICE of you to give away sugar! I heard that Rogers in BC is on strike and even bakeries can't get sugar. We're fine out here in ON. After all the talk of ginger cookies and gingerbread, it was the 2nd thing I made this week. I didn't read carefully and goofed up the amount of lard, and we ended up with flat lifeless cookies spread out across the sheet. I'm sure you know what I mean. They tasted fine (and they are gone after 4 days) but joyfulnana I think I'm gonna join you in baking from a can!!! scrappyrabbit, love the soft layout, and the yellow buggy perfectly pulls in the yellow on the blanket.

So DD often makes $45+/hour when she works. Wow, that's good money! Wait staff here also get at least minimum wage, but there's not really any tipping here, so their wage is their wage. My son is a second year apprentice (carpenter) and the pay is crap! First year was $14 per hour, and second year is $17. He will be third year in February, I'm interested to see what it goes up to. The pay would have been a bit more (but not much more) if he had Year 12, but he left school after Year 11. Linda I'm sorry that your husband's appointment didn't go as well as you both would have liked. I hope his vision starts improving as he heals. It must be so frustrating (and worrisome)! I had a pre-Christmas catch up with some old friends last night, and even though I got home just after 11pm, I ended up staying up until about 1:30am. I was very glad to be able to sleep in until nearly 9am this morning. I'm alternating between having a busy day and a lazy day today... Lazy: Peaing and scrapping on the couch. Busy: Cleaning out the spare room, vacuuming, and I'm about to shampoo the carpet when I finish my coffee. DSO just got the trees down from storage, so I will put those up later today. I'm hoping that DS and his girlfriend get home soon, so they can decorate the tree. She was so excited when I said she could do it.

I'm hoping that DS and his girlfriend get home soon, so they can decorate the tree. She was so excited when I said she could do it. It was our first year decorating a tree with a boyfriend in the house. He blended in nicely (not actually sure that Katie let him put a single ornament on the tree, she has become fussy about placement like her mama, but she gave him a lesson in tinsel and let him piggy back her to put the star up (for the photo op. It was actually DS's turn to put up the star so Katie only pretended to put on the star )

grammadee, I thought of you this morning as I picked up powdered sugar and reg. sugar for my baking. What a kind thing to do offering a needed ingredient to a friend. There doesn't seem to be any shortage here. I made this card for Swayzee and Gracee. We are having dinner with DS and whole family tomorrow. This will be our first meeting with little Gracee. It will be nice to see our grandchildren who live far enough away that we only see them occasionally. Penguin Merry Christmas

lovely card nylene - you make the most awesome cards! I'm so glad that you finally got to meet Gracee! We had a lovely time wandering around the holiday market here - it was set up around the lake and park downtown. Finished up my Christmas shopping for my sister so I can get that mailed Monday. Picked up a few things for the kids too. We had lunch out and then dropped DD17 at home and went back out for groceries.

I received my first Pokey Christmas card from Ms. nylene I had a super busy day today here as well. We are preparing to go to my parents’ house for the rest of the year, so I’m practically packing up our entire condo (it feels like… baby needs a lot of stuff!). So trying to pack and do laundry etc in between naps and feedings and I’m beat. Tomorrow we are meeting Santa so that will be an early morning and long day. My cousins and their kids will be joining us for the Santa outing, which involves taking a train in a park to the Christmas village. We got the kids matching red plaid outfits, so I’m excited to see how it turns out. Sadly though one on my cousins has to stay home as her daughter came down with a fever. This year has been so bad for viruses. It’s fun to hear about your different family decorating and baking activities. Maybe I’ll be able to bake something at my parents’ house. She decorated for Christmas and Serena has her own stocking which is just adorable.

Happy Sunday! Waving hi to you all! We went to church this morning and back home to relax. Ron is on vacation until Wednesday so we hope to go with the flow. He is tired from a very busy Fall recruiting season and needs the rest. My BIG canvas is coming along. I just did some base layers and then I journaled on it. Not sure what is next but it has been exciting. This size canvas has inspired me to buy more! LOL! M's as a buy one get two free deal so I am going this afternoon to pick up my order of three 24x48 canvases. I don't know what I am gonna do with them but I am sure the ideas with come. linda- My prayers are still with you and your dh. I hope he feels better soon. We went to a holiday market last night, too. It was so nice I just wish more people would of been there. It was up the street from us and so well presented with music, food trucks and lots of vendors. nylene- Your card is super cute! I left some love for you in the gallery. I like how the card sits up. Have made this type of card before? Adorable!!! joyfulnana- Yes, I don't want to turn on the oven here. Although it is cooler, that oven heats things up to much and I have to turn on the a/c to balance out the heat. LOL! I hope to try those recipes with ground turkey. What kind of cookies did you make?
