Good morning. Apart from one con call today it's a quiet day. I really want to try making macarons, again. Also, dh wants the coffee cake cookies that both jeremysgirl and AussieMeg baked a few weeks ago. We shall see. Dinner is probably enchiladas. The best laid plans, once again. What's on your menu? What is everyone up to today? How is everyone doing? May today be happy, fulfilling and easy!

salmon cakes and other leftovers.
running around with errands.. going to exercise class. realized after trying on a ton of clothes in my closet last. night, I need a pair of dress black pants and a new belt for my trip on thursday.. so will probably shop thursday morning (our flight is at midnight).. I will really have to do a major closet clean out when I get back.
it is sort of frustrating.. I had a really good wardrobe for my previous size, now have to get rid of perfectly good clothes and buy new. worth it.. just frustrating.

Happy Wednesday! Today is chilly and cloudy so the perfect backdrop for my stay at home day. Lots to do including making the annual Christmas Trash this morning, getting the rest of my Dec. sewing projects cut out and clear off the island. Once that is clear I can put up the tree so I can decorate it. I also need to do some actual sewing, including one gift that I totally ruined last night and have to start over (thank goodness for extra fabric!). Also need to do a bit of paperwork/bill paying and a grocery store run. Obviously it all won't happen so will do what I can.
Dinner tonight will be some broiled Arctic char for DH and some jumbo shrimp for me. Hope everyone has a good day!

My dad came home from the hospital last night and is still feeling pretty sick from Covid. He's very nauseous and nothing sounds good. Mom should be released to rehab today if she can successfully work her insulin pump.
I have a grocery order to pick up at noon so hopefully, I'll find something for dinner with that, otherwise, it will be takeout again.
Have a great day everyone!

I don't have a lot planned during the day today ... A couple of emails to send and phone calls to make regarding my retirement etc. Waiting for a few deliveries ... nothing too exciting ...one thing is a Rubbermaid step stool for my Jeep ... it's too high for my mum to get into really easily ... we left the last one behind at a stop a week ago! I am FINALLY getting together with my girlfriend tonight for dinner and Netflix! We are going to our fav Italian restaurant and then back to my place.

**GypsyGirl**, a good reason to rescue a kitty is that on chilly mornings they'll warm your legs. Trust me. ntsf, it's great that you're a smaller size. Everything is on sale right now. It's a good time to buy pants. You must be very excited about your trip. Is this your first time down under? Tearisci, I feel for you and your parents. How are you doing? leannec, When will you start subbing? cadoodlebug, have you ever been to Mardi Gras or is it something that is usually for the tourists?

leannec, When will you start subbing? That I don't know ... I had hoped to start in March but there is this small sentence online saying something about them only considering applicants who have retired each October! That would be a problem ... If that is the case, I would have to look for a part time job in the meantime ... sigh!

Tearisci , I feel for you and your parents. How are you doing? I'm doing pretty well, thanks for asking! My work has been good about me being flexible and as I mentioned in another thread, my siblings have all banded together so that we can tag team them! I've got my dad today and my sister will be with my mom. I think my brother may bring in food for him tonight so once we get mom in the rehab which is close to us, it will be much easier!

lucyg, I just read the tail end of yesterday's thread. Did your dd have that con call w/your mom and her cardiologist? How is your mom doing today? She's feisty and she'll be home in no time. Tearisci, when both parents are so ill it's time to put on your roller skates isn't it? I'm glad that your siblings are working as a team to help take care of your parents. (((HUGS))).

Good evening all,
Today was a craft day at after school care - we are working on Christmas decorations at the moment. Today’s was simple - cut out trees, stars and ball ornaments filled in with torn tissue paper pieces to make a stained glass effect, then finished off with glitter and sequins. I have a few little friends who are the first ones to jump in and start the craft activity, including one of the 1st grade boys, who is just so enthusiastic.
After I finished there I stopped in the city to walk through the markets again, before catching the train home. I am now worn out, so it will probably be an early night for me.
Dinner tonight will be pasta of some sort. Probably noodles with pesto.

(( hugs )) to everyone who needs 'em, and / or for your sick family members. lucyg.....hate it when you wait allll day to speak to a doctor, and they don't show up. I'm sure you're exhausted from being at the hospital so much. Does your Mom still have her usual fighting spirit? Today I've got physical therapy, which will go WAY better than the last one. Monday, I was in so much pain, I started crying from the parking lot to the reception desk to the pool. I was so embarrassed, but of course, my therapist was so kind, and the exercise made it MUCH better! Today I'm in NO pain, so.....yipppeeee !!!! No crying in front of the entire clinic! It's so weird how pain changes day to day.

My morning did not start off good, my car won't start! It is a keyless, I tried the remote start and nothing. I went in the car and it started for 2 seconds then stopped. Now it clicks but won't turn over. The lights come on, so not sure if it is a battery issue or not. Now the brakes are stiff so I can't press them down. UGH!
I am grateful that I can work from home since I don't have any vacation left. So there is that!
Not sure what dinner will be tonight. We still have some rechauffe meatloaf.

Just got off the phone with Meg (DD). We finally have a diagnosis … congestive heart failure. I think they are going to send her home this afternoon with instructions for taking care of herself. Since I have the same diagnosis, I’m not too worried about us being able to manage this. My housekeeper (who is also her housekeeper) will help take care of her for the first few days. She IS 94 and I don’t think she or any of us have illusions that she’s going to live forever, despite what I may have said yesterday. But she isn’t quite at death’s door yet. We’re hanging in there! Thanks for asking, Marina and scrapmaven. If I get to cook tonight, it will be that tuscano soup I’ve been trying to make.

P.S. thank you to scrappintoee, too. Just talked to DD again who had just talked to her grandma again. She said they’re keeping her one more night. But she’s ready for real food (has been refusing hospital food because it doesn’t meet her high standards) and she’s been living on milkshakes and whatever we bring her (which does meet her standards, apparently). So I’ll bring her a decent meal from a restaurant.

lucyg....glad you finally got to learn what her diagnosis is With my (previously VERY healthy) 91-year-old Dad in the hospital, his diagnoses were sooo......complicated. Doctor after doctor and the waiiiiiting for them to show up .....ugh! Marina..... so sad about your cousin being alone, and wondered if she can at least facetime/ zoom with her family and friends? scrapmaven....were your multiple appointments able to give you some help? I always forget to mention DINNER (the theme of this whole thread!) I made carne guesada 2 days ago, and it just gets better as the flavors blend, so we'll probably have it for a third time tonight. Or, I've been craving pork chops, so maybe those.

cadoodlebug, have you ever been to Mardi Gras or is it something that is usually for the tourists? Oh, where to begin. I started going in high school with friends. In college I went with boyfriends. One year 3 of my sorority sisters and I were dating 4 fraternity brothers so we all went down for several days including Mardi Gras Day. One of my sister's grandmas lived in one of those ginormous mansions on St Charles so the girls all stayed there. Once the guys brought us home for the night and grandma went to bed, we played hide and go seek in the mansion. OMG, it was so much fun! The only downside was while we were in the throngs on Bourbon St we ran into my former boyfriend and his new girlfriend. What are the odds with hundreds of thousands of people milling around?? ETA: to answer your question, families who live in NOLA go to parades the weeks leading up to MGD. They take their kids as the parades are family friendly. The ones in the Quarter are generally people without their kids and tourists. I'm sure it isn't as safe as it was when I used to go in the 60's & 70's.

scrappintoee (AKA Shcoop Brady), I loved reading that you are not in pain today. See, you are getting your life back. So, do something fun! lucy , mil had CHF and lived a long long life. The most important thing for your mom is to enjoy her life now. They'll keep her on the meds to help her feel well, eventhough she'll be peeing a lot. It's a good thing that you have a diagnosis and now they can keep her from going in and out of the hospital. ((((HUGS))). sueg , I would love to go to your Christmas markets w/you. I know I say this every year. scrappert , I'll bet your battery is totally dead. Have you already tried to jump it? What a drag. Ok, I have been trying to not go into detail about what's happening, because it's just not dinner talk. That explains why I've been vague. So, I'll be careful here. I had my tube removed while I was in the hospital. It was causing more problems and I was unable to use it. Finally, my entire team has decided that I cannot tube feed, ever. That's why I've been feeling so rotten all the time. Once it heals I'll feel much better. If it doesn't heal on it's own then it's a surgical fix. Yes, I edited this, cause it was wtmi. Did someone say dinner? Hehe

Just jumped on real quick to give myself a distraction from work for a minute.
Sorry to read so many are or have family/friends suffering. Hugs to all of you!
Just another busy work day. Starting to freak out on everything I need to do for Christmas. It always gets done but I also always freak out.
Have a band concert to go to for DGS tonight.
Again, DH will figure out dinner.

scrapmaven....I'm sorry for all that you're going through. LOL at Schoop Brady. !!!! " So Jan, what's your boyfriend's name?" "George Glass" I have an encylcopedic* memory of Brady Bunch! (*gee, that term is antiquated, isn't it? So many peeps will have no idea what an encylopedia is anymore). Same with "broken record" Ugh, I feel old.

lucyg I'm glad that your mother was diagnosed and will be going home soon. scrapmaven I pray your wound heals quickly so you can start feeling better. I went out today to buy a few groceries and toys to donate to a family in need. My brother called me last night and told me about them and there as no way I couldn't try to do something. Now I'll just sit and watch my Hallmark Christmas movies with a cup of coffee. For dinner we might have pizza (hubby's request).

scrappert , I'll bet your battery is totally dead. Have you already tried to jump it? What a drag. Called the dealer and asked him, we are going to try changing the batteries in the FOB and also jump my car. The car battery is old and the garage door was left open all night, it was down to the 20's. So hopefully it is just batteries! I will have to get a new car battery then. Certainly don't want it to not start in the very cold winter! Fingers crossed!

Today was just a stay at home day. I’ve done some chores around the house and also made some Christmas gift tags for myself. I had a new gnome stamp that is adorable and I wanted to use it on something. Now I just have to get the wrapping done so I can use the tags.
Last night DS got called in to work and DDIL wasn’t home from work yet so I popped over to stay with the boys. I made them supper and then loaded them in the car for skating lessons. I forgot what tying skates is like! DDIL met us at the arena so I was able to leave before the lessons were over.
Tonight is my walk night with my bestie.
Supper is hamburger mixed with peas, mashed potatoes and spinach salad.

I have had a busy week , worked 3 shifts which is a lot for me. On sunday the washing machine was making a racket, so that was looked at yesterday, and last night we bought a new washer. The old one was 15+ years old so really got our monies worth from it. The new one will be delivered tomorrow, so I am happy we were able to find one in stock and have it delivered quickly!!
I worked today so dinner is salads from Bella "our" salad place, funny story I called today and said I wanted to order 2 salads to pick up, and the gal proceeded to rattle off my "usual"!!! I chuckled to my self after hanging up😊😊

cadoodlebug….I love your fun stories 😀 jeremysgirl….Thank you. Wellll, the holiday blues have hit hard today. At Aldi, this very cute, elderly, frail man needed help putting the quarter in and pulling his cart out. He was so appreciative and sweet, reminded me of my Dad. 💙 Ugh, I’m sooo tired of crying in public. Thankfully, the crying stopped by time I got to the charcuterie section. I’m headed to another store now, and hopefully won’t start crying again.
