I searched, but I haven’t found much mention of Nikki Haley on this board.
I have a real fear that Donald Trump will be voted back in office. His comments seem to get crazier and scarier, and yet more people want him in office than anyone else. It befuddled me when he first was elected, and it’s x1000 now. It blows my mind that ANYONE wants him back, let alone the majority of Americans polled.
I’ve been thinking about alternative scenarios, factoring in how poorly Biden is doing in the polls. I’ve watched parts of all the Republicans debates and I have to say that I’ve been impressed by Nikki Haley. I certainly don’t agree with all her policies, but she is by far the most level-headed, intelligent and strong GOP candidate. (Although I love Chris Christie’s willingness and ability to call out Trump whenever possible.)
If a miracle occurs and Trump either ends up in jail, or the collective Republicans pull their heads out of their asses and Haley becomes the nominee, I would sleep far better at night. I would still vote for Biden, but I wouldn’t fear for my sanity which is exactly what would happen if Trump returned to office.
I certainly don’t know all there is to know about Haley, but I’m willing to give her a closer look. I like that she’s looking stronger in the NH polling. And she’s starting to call out Trump. Not enough yet, but I have hope.
Anyone else want to share your opinion?

I will vote Biden. For the country's sake Haley is the better GOP nominee.. not president though....
BTW: we had Christie as governor for 2 terms, not again, thank you!!

I am not a Republican and am generally to the left of mainstream Democrats, so obviously I would not be looking into voting for her. I think she is not the existential threat to the country that Trump is and DeSantis may well be. I would prefer her to either of them, but again, I don't know how fair it is for me to weigh in.

I'm petty enough to have my first thought be that I don't want the first woman president to be a Republican. I'm voting for whoever the Democrat is no matter what. But I'd much rather have Haley in there than trump, of course.

I am voting blue but Haley is more preferable to me as the GOP candidate than 45. I wouldn't gripe as hard if she beat Biden than if 45 did. Now that he knows the ins and outs of what he can get away with in office, 45 should never hold office again. Ever.

I would like to think that if Trump is the nominee that people would quit griping about Biden. He’s older than I’d like my president to be, but I am just fine with the job that he has done. I have zero hesitation voting for him again.

I have watched the debates and she is the least crazy. I like her on some things but I don’t agree with her in enough to not vote for her. However I would prefer her to any of the other republican candidates. She is smart and articulate. I have yet to hear her call out TFG on anything. She is the best of the alternatives by far.

My Republican DH has been a Haley supporter since before she even declared she was running. He advocates for her to every Republican he speaks to.
She's far better than the rest of them. However, I still can't get over that when asked in an early debate if she would support Trump as the nominee, she raised her hand. She's trying to walk this line where she doesn't offend his base and yet say chaos follows him around. She won't condemn him; she just says she is the better candidate. I can't see voting for her in the general election but I can see her winning enough of the independent vote to get elected if she were the nominee. If anyone in the party leadership really had courage, they would endorse her over Trump but they are all too scared that Trump will get re-elected and their defection from his good graces will cost them.

Some of you need to do some serious research. 🤦🏼♀️
Haley is for a federal abortion ban. She agrees with what Texas is doing to women.
Haley is all for getting rid of social security and Medicare.
Haley has said she would be inclined to pardon trump.

Yikes I had forgotten she had said some of those things. She still seems the most rational but yes I don’t want to see a national abortion ban I don’t want social security and Medicare to disappear. That said I think she is a lot less toxic than the others still running.
I also don’t want someone to pardon TFG if he ever gets convicted.

Yeah, I was just coming in to say that Haley will be perfectly fine with turning the whole country into Texas or worse - abortion ban, overturning Obergefell, ending or severely limiting safety net programs. Don't be fooled. With the level of crazy among GOP senators and congresspeople, really any Republican president is an enormous danger to the country.

We lived in North Carolina when she was governor of South Carolina. She was very well-liked and I was very impressed with her. I am a registered independent and would have considered voting for a Republican back then. Now, no way. I cannot vote for anyone who is a party to the erosion of women's rights and who won't do jack $#*t about guns. It's a shame because she is a lot more palatable than anyone else we're being offered.

I never said I would vote for her. She is a lot smarter than the others running but that could also lead to her getting more done. She also isn’t running on a revenge campaign saying that she would go after people. I don’t know at this point I just am hoping we can still vote and recognize our country in 2028. Having the leading candidate saying they will be a dictator isn’t what we need.

By better, I mean that she is unlikely to declare martial law or steal classified docs. Not much of an improvement though, when you think about it. ☺️🤔😁

Would you consider voting for Haley in the primaries, and Biden in the general? I considered voting for Kasich in the 2016 primaries to deter Trump, but was too excited to vote for Hillary in the primaries too.

I voted for Kasich in 2016 and even though I would never vote for a Republican in a general election, I will vote in the Republican primary. I'm lucky to live in NH where we can declare our party on the day of the primary and our votes actually count. I haven't decided who is the least objectionable. I might have voted for Will Hurd before he dropped out. I think my choice comes down to Christie or Asa Hutchinson. She sounds more reasonable than some of the others, but I can't vote for Nikki Haley because of her support for Trump and her support for a 6 week abortion ban. And I really didn't like her comments linking transgender athletes and the rise in teen girls suicide rates.

I like Christie but I don’t think he has a chance. I also don’t really know much about him other than he has the guts to stand up to TFG. Too little too late but I guess he is still far better in that than anyone else since they all said they would vote for him even if convicted of a crime. I know a lot in his home state don’t support him either.

You have to understand that these polls are very one sided. The people they actually talk to are die hard MAGA nutjobs who don't do anything all day but watch right-leaning TV. They are the only ones who answer their phones without looking to see who it is and then happily spew their crap to any pollster who calls. The majority of dems and those who do not like the asshat don't waste their time with pollsters. When they ask people if they are unhappy with Biden, again, they mainly get MAGA nutjobs. The only benefit in the polls is that it makes those who don't want "him" back in office more likely to go out and vote for anyone else. There are a lot of really annoyed republicans out there who cannot stand the way that their party is run. The MAGA extremists happen to be the most vocal but they are NOT the majority.

He has gotten more unstable, and there are way too many MAGAs willing to do whatever it takes to stay in his good graces. I wish we had open primaries in PA. I would vote for Nikki Haley without a doubt IN THE PRIMARIES. Some of you have brought up some good points about her positions, but the threat of what another Trump term would do to our country is too great. The man CAN NOT return to office. Biden will get my vote next November no matter what, but I would rest a lot easier until then if I knew that Trump wasn’t going to be on the ballot.

Anyone who thinks Nikki Haley isn’t a trump mini me is kidding themselves. Listen to her answer the question about abortion and what is happening to Kate Cox. The woman has absolutely no compassion or feeling for what Kate Cox is going through. One of President Biden and President Obama string points is they actually cared what happened to people. This bitch could care less. Biden-Harris… ”Q: Kate Cox was forbidden from having an abortion even though her doctor said it might jeopardize her fertility & the fetus was unlikely to survive. Do you disagree with that?” Haley: I think overturning Roe v. Wade was the right thing and I appreciate that Texas banned abortion” x.com/bidenhq/status/1736425390933979140?s=61&t=j45uMgNk1i8O0YllKF58nw

I appreciate all the discussion here. I have a curiosity follow-up question, especially for those who are very much against Haley, or even consider her on the same level as Trump -
If you knew a woman who is Republican, but hates Trump, what do you hope she would do in the primaries? (Provided she lives in a state that holds their primary early enough that her vote actually matters.)
*edit* Let’s add the hypothetical that all the other candidates are way down in polling and have no chance at all.

First off, any self respecting woman would never identify as a republican. What would I hope she would do in the primaries...vote for Joe Biden. ETA: For those that don't have open primaries, vote for Christie and then change your voter affiliation to democrat.

Haley is just as bad as Trump as far as policy positions. She’s just smarter about how to frame it to be more palatable if you’re not paying a lot of attention to the specifics of her policy positions. She was also Trumps ambassador to the UN — she supports him and his positions. I do think Haley is safer in that I don't think she's as likely as Trump to just piss off North Korea or Iran (or hell, England) and start a war or something. Diplomacy does have value to me. I also don't think she's out for selfish, petty vengeance. In terms of substance, yes, she's just as bad.
