no familyJoyce Alene @joycewhitevance I have rarely seen a defendant facing trial alone with no family, at least one person, in the courtroom for him. It's a sad commentary for a former president with four grown children & a wife, all of whom seem to have deserted him in the moment.

There are complaints that the media is giving out too much info on the jurors, with the possibility of some being identified.
*** There is seriously far, far too much identifying information about prospective jurors, several of whom are now empaneled, coming out in the press," warned attorney and author Luppe B. Luppen.

The oncology nurse, (juror. #2) has been removed from the jury. She reported that that too much her info has been released and she has received calls from family and friends questioning her. Some was able to release the name of the facility where she worked...
Male juror(#4) has been dismissed. He neglected to report that he had been arrested in the past for taking down political posters. He was due to report to the judge at 9:15am today, but he was late.

TFG took his phone out IN court, against the rules.. not happy when he was told to put it away.. This happening with the loss of two seated jurors. Also lawyers had sent a letter asking for the MAL docs case be delayed again!! He lawyer Blanche is too busy in NYC to address the MAL docs case.. and if course, baby sitting the man/child beside him.... Reports from inside the courtroom show Blanche’s many responsibilities Thursday included chastising Trump for disobeying court rules by taking out his phone. “Trump is using his phone in the courtroom, openly flouting the rules of the courtroom,” reported NBC correspondent Kyle Griffin. “Blanche just told him to stop and Trump tucked the phone in his pocket while looking annoyed.” www.rawstory.com/trump-classified-documents-delay/

Cannon denies Nauta and DeOliveira to get out of the MAL docs case..
(RE: Nauta) The Trump-appointed judge refused to do away with the indictment based on "vagueness grounds," however she would revisit the issue of how "corruptly" is defined once jury instructions are issued down the line. .... Cannon also rejected De Oliveira's claims that he was oblivious to what was inside of the banker boxes he was allegedly directed to hoard on behalf of the 45th president and therefore "didn't have the required corrupt intent."
Rather than get rid of the case now, Cannon offered De Oliveira to bring up the details of his innocence at trial.

My, my, my.... He may have violated the gag order from within the court house!!
Assistant District Attorney Christopher Conroy specifically requested a $1,000 fine for each of the alleged violations and an order forcing the 45th president to pull them off his Truth Social feed, as well as warning him that further violations "could result in jail time.”
Conroy alluded to the timing of the suspected fourth gag order violation, stating, “It’s entirely possible it was done within this courthouse."

Especially since it’s not his money. He is sure he can get away with it snd will continue to do as he pleases because he knows the judge will likely not do much. As much as anyone else would already have been tossed in jail he likely won’t. It’s a game to him and he knows if he did go to jail it will only embolden his followers. He has to get attention so this is why he is doing it.

Trump’s money problems are apparently even bigger than his legal bills and fines and campaign finances. He’s funneling money from his campaign to his business heathercoxrichardson.substack.com/p/april-18-2024In Trump’s election interference trial in Manhattan, Judge Juan Merchan this morning dismissed one of the selected jurors after she expressed concern for her anonymity and thus for her safety. All of the reporters in the courtroom have shared so much information about the jurors that they seemed at risk of being identified, but Fox News Channel host Jesse Watters not only ran a video segment about a juror, he suggested she was “concerning.” Trump shared the video on social media.
The juror told the judge that so much information about her had become public that her friends and family had begun to ask her if she was one of the jurors. Legal analyst Joyce White Vance noted jurors’ fear for their safety was a concern normally seen only “in a case involving violent organized crime.”
Nonetheless, by the end of the day, twelve people had been chosen to serve as jurors. Tomorrow the process will continue in order to find six alternate jurors.
It is a courtesy for the two sides at a trial to share with each other the names of their next witnesses so the other team can prepare for them. Today the prosecution declined to provide the names of their first three witnesses to the defense lawyers out of concern that Trump would broadcast them on social media. “Mr. Trump has been tweeting about the witnesses. We’re not telling them who the witnesses are,” prosecutor Joshua Steinglass said.
Merchan said he “can’t blame them.” Trump’s defense attorney Todd Blanche offered to "commit to the court and the [prosecution] that President Trump will not [post] about any witness" on social media. "I don't think you can make that representation," Merchan said, in a recognition that Trump cannot be trusted, even by his own lawyers.
An article in the New York Times today confirmed that the trial will give Trump plenty of publicity, but not the kind that he prefers. Lawyer Norman L. Eisen walked through questions about what a prison sentence for Trump could look like.
Trump’s popular image is taking a hit in other ways, as well. Zac Anderson and Erin Mansfield of USA Today reported that Trump is funneling money from his campaign fundraising directly into his businesses. According to a new report filed with the Federal Election Commission, in February and March the campaign wrote checks totaling $411,287 to Mar-a-Lago and in March a check for $62,337 to Trump National Doral Miami.
Experts say it is legal for candidates to pay their own businesses for services used by the campaign so long as they pay fair market value. At the same time, they note that since Trump appears to be desperate for money, “it looks bad.”

And then you read this one .... The Supreme Court needs to decide if the January 6 defendants can be charged with obstruction — and they may ultimately pursue a "middle position" solution, The Washington Post editorial board wrote on Friday. This comes after an oral argument in an appeal by a defendant this week in which many of the justices appeared hesitant about the government's position — and many observers slammed Justice Clarence Thomas for not recusing himself from the case because his wife was involved in the effort to overturn the 2020 election. *** Ultimately, the key difference might be the intent, the board wrote. "A lot of [January 6 rioters] knew that they were illegally entering and vandalizing the seat of government, and a lot of them knew that they were doing so in pursuit of an end that was also illegal. This could result in a reasonable middle position on the law, much like the one laid out by Judge Justin R. Walker of the D.C. Circuit almost a year ago: that for the statute to apply, a defendant must both know he is obtaining an unlawful benefit and act with the purpose of obtaining that unlawful benefit."If this standard is applied, the board wrote, many of the rioters would still be on the hook for obstruction, but some might be able to get those charges dropped — including Trump himself. www.rawstory.com/supreme-court-jan-6/

Regarding Trump's ridiculous claim of presidential immunity you're the problemMichael Steele. @michaelsteele Funny @realdonaldtrump for 248 years and 45 presidents this was never a problem. Maybe you're the problem.
immunityJo @jojofromjerz Hey MAGA, Don’t you think it’s weird that Joe Biden never, ever talks about having presidential immunity? You’re out there every damn day saying you’re going to indict him, and yet the only one who ever mentions it, is Trump.
threat
Joyce Alene. @joycewhitevance My initial reaction is that this is dumb because Joe Biden doesn't need presidential immunity, he hasn't committed any crimes. But more properly read, this is a threat. Trump is saying he will come after Biden if he's elected. He'll be a dictator in more than just day one.

A question: The prosecution decided to give TFG lawyers' one witness name if they guaranteed not to give it to TFG.
So, it is all over the net and TV shows, David Pecker. Anyone have any onsite?

A random comment I saw.. we need to remember what is really the issue!
Tom Boggiani: It's an election interference case. The rapist bought just enough votes in a razor thin election by hiding his sleaze to eke out a 'win' over Hillary. It's not a crime to pay hush money, it's a crime to illegally deprive us of information we need in order to vote. Saying it's a hush money case makes it sound like something between 2 people with no larger ramifications. This is what enabled him to soil our White House for 4 interminable years. This affects us all to this day. Election interference - write it on your hand so you don't forget.

A question: The prosecution decided to give TFG lawyers' one witness name if they guaranteed not to give it to TFG. So, it is all over the net and TV shows, David Pecker. Anyone have any onsite? He was the publisher for National Enquirer www.politico.com/news/2024/04/14/trump-hush-money-trial-witnesses-00151816Pecker is the former CEO of American Media, Inc., which published the National Enquirer during the period when it executed so-called “catch and kill” schemes to bury negative stories about Trump.
One of the prosecution’s central goals will be to persuade jurors that Trump orchestrated the cover-up — and falsified his company’s records — as part of a scheme to influence the 2016 election, rather than merely to avoid personal embarrassment. Connecting the conduct to the election will help prosecutors maintain the charges against Trump as felonies, rather than misdemeanors. And Pecker may be a key witness on that point.
In October 2016, Pecker aided Trump yet again, this time telling the National Enquirer editor-in-chief to alert Cohen to the fact that Daniels was claiming to have had a sexual encounter with Trump. Trump’s campaign had just been roiled by the release of the infamous Access Hollywood tape, in which Trump boasted about sexual assault, and a potential sex scandal involving Daniels’ account would have further damaged the campaign. Cohen then struck the $130,000 deal with Daniels.
Pecker’s testimony will likely prove important because he can corroborate much of what Cohen is expected to testify about, and Pecker will come to the witness stand with far fewer credibility issues than Cohen.
