When I went down the YouTube rabbit hole after watching the video by Dana White, I came across this woman, the minimalist mom. And though I’m not a minimalist, I’ve gotten a lot out of her videos. The video linked below, in particular, really helps you recognize the mental weight all of our things. Silent To Do List by the motivated mom. It’s a short video, about 11 minutes, and if you’re not fully awake yet her peppy might make you stabby I normally don’t do really peppy people, I’m far too much of a grouch for that, but she is an exception. Do you have any YouTubers that inspire you in your decluttering or organizing?

Finished going through our blankets tonight, got them all washed, and found a duvet cover to donate. Got the other duvet covers on their blankets. Was able to get rid of a bag and clear half a shelf’s worth of space.

Cleaning out my scrapbook room I found 12 card kits from Jillibean from 2013-2014, those are going to a friend who loves card kits so that is a good thing. I tackled all my paper Saturday and Sunday - oh my goodness, I made a mental note to not buy ANY MORE PAPER unless it meets a specific picture need!!!!
We are off work for MLK day, so today's task is to organize my dies/stamps and decide what is going out the door with those! Is it worth it to try to sell those you are discarding on the resell sites? I'd love to just make up some postal boxes of surprise boxes and ship them out to someone who really needs or would appreciate them! I did sell a big batch of older Spellbinder dies (circa 2005-2010) as a set and that brought in a nice profit.
I have a goal of finishing up my 18 year old grandson's pages for his graduation the end of May. Really just a little bit of catching up to do for him, but realizing I need to also get going on the 10 year old grandsons' books as well.
I hope everyone has a good day and stay warm - only in the teens here in Western Ohio today but warmer than the single digits it was yesterday.

Oh, I almost forgot! I found my book of ATC trades from 2005 - 2006 too! That was so much fun to look at and wonder where all those scrappers are today! Also found my scrapbook from 2004 Camp Memory Makers - I won the trip on the old 2 Peas page and it was absolutely amazing meeting so many scrappers from around the states! Anyone else ever attend those events? My favorite class was with Michelle Minkin!

I won’t ever be as minimal as her, especially with clothing and dishes, but she has a lot of good points and info. I also like “But first, coffee” and Cas from clutterbug. There are some others that come up on my YouTube feed and I watch/listen to them when cleaning as well.

With each phase of the painting at my house I discover more and more stuff.
Yesterday I packed most of my bedroom (which includes my scrapbooking stuff) and moved it across the hall to ds’s room. I feel as though I need to purge but had an interesting conversation with my scrappy friends on Zoom Saturday. One friend said that she doesn’t get rid of things because when she retires she won’t have the disposable income to buy scrapbooks stuff, or maybe not as much. This really resonates with me because I like what I have. I got rid of what I didn’t like years ago. And when I retire (if I can ever retire) my income will drop dramatically. I won’t have money for extras. I’m now thinking that as long as I have room for it all I’ll keep it. I am limiting what comes in to my Hip Kit Club kit each month.
My dd came yesterday and filled the back of her SUV with more of her things! She still has stuff in the basement but she cleared the bottom of my linen closet! I’m going to try to go through that today, if I won’t be in the way of the painters, and put a few things on Facebook Marketplace (free). Saturday I had someone come pick up dgd’s twin bed and mattress…bonus, he took the sheets too when his dd saw that they were JoJo Siwa sheets!
I have some wall decor (sounds pretentious, it’s from Target) that I’m going to post as well as brand new bottle of carpet cleaner liquid and a can of 409 spot cleaner.

iamkristinl16 Exactly! And I’m always very motivated after I watch a new video. Yeah, we won’t be that minimal either. We purposefully have a lot of dishes for the two of us because we hand wash our pots and pans so it can take several days to a week before the dishwasher is run. I know she’s right about having fewer dishes means less possibility of a big pile of dirty dishes by the sink, I just can’t pull that trigger. We do have an old set of IKEA 365 dishes that we saved because they came in handy when his family visited…but it’s been years. So I’m seriously considering letting that go. I’ve seen a video of Cas, and I took her quiz. Cricket. Lemme tell ya, I felt seen reading and listening to my organization type. My DH asked if she was living in my head. We weren’t a good fit from the only video I watched, but I’m planning on trying another few videos. And I’ll check out “But first, coffee” thanks!

Daily declutter task from My Simpler Life Declutter Calendar:
Get rid of hair doodads you never wear.
Don’t forget to check the bottom of your purse and inside couch and car seat cushions. Bonus: If you come across a lot of favorites, besides storing them where you do your hair consider adding them to places like your makeup bag in your purse, toiletries bag for travel, your junk drawer, and the console of your car. Anyplace you have found yourself needing one but not having one handy.
Confession time: As easy as it is for me to get rid of a lot of sentimental items, I have a package of bobby pins I can’t seem to throw away. I never use them when styling my hair, though I want to learn to do a pretty low bun and know I’ll need them then. They were purchased because we needed something to help stabilize our tiaras for the royal wedding. But there they sit in my small hair bin, in their little box behind the hair doodads I do use, and in front of elastic hair bands that will get tossed because they’re hard on my hair. I realized some of my favorite type of hair bands are stretched out quite a bit and don’t function as well. So I ordered more and these stretched ones will get washed and a few relegated to wrapping paper holders.
Eta: Bobby pins are gone, go me!

mommaho Lots of scrappy decluttering going on! I just did a purge of my scrap room a few months ago, and now maintain a box for paper I come across I’m not in love with, and a bag for embellishments. But your post made me think of early Spellbinders dies I have. When I got a new electronic die cutting machine I thought I’d end up using them, but so far there are very few I have. I’m going to take a quick look at them today (while I’m thinking of them and feeling motivated!) and see which ones can go. KelleeM I bet it feels so good to watch those things leave and seeing fresh new paint go up on your walls at the same time. That would make me feel super motivated as well. I think there is a lot of value in not keeping things for your future self, have a home for the life you’re living and all of that. But your friend raises a really valid point, especially seeing how things are going right now. I did the same for years going through various illnesses and not wanting or being able to do my hobbies. But I have a room dedicated to them that didn’t need to serve any other purpose, so I felt okay keeping them. If you have a good amount for your space and they’re not making you feel guilty or overwhelmed when you’re shopping your stash then I’d probably consider keeping most of it too. As it’s been years your tastes might have changed a bit so looking through it quickly as you put it back could be a good idea. So excited for you!

I have some wall decor (sounds pretentious, it’s from Target) that I’m going to post as well as brand new bottle of carpet cleaner liquid and a can of 409 spot cleaner. Not only this, but there simply may not be as much available to choose from in the years to come even if you did have extra money to buy it. Look at how many scrapbook manufacturing companies have either gone out of business or have been gobbled up by the few remaining big companies over the past 10-15 years! When I was unpacking my boxes after I had my cabinets installed in 2014, it was like a walk down memory lane looking at all of the papers and embellishments made by favorite companies that are now long gone, and discarding things that just didn’t hold up over time (and that ironically were supposed to be archival safe, looking at you yellowed epoxy and chipboard stickers and rub ons that literally shriveled up and fell off the pages, filling the bottom of the page protectors like crumbs of dust!). So I really hesitate to get rid of things that I still like, even if I don’t LOVE! LOVE! them. The chain stores mostly just sell their own house brand stuff and even some of the name brand things have gone way down in quality compared to some of the things I already own.

If they go under choices will be even more limited. I think I’ll keep what I have for now!

I stumbled upon this YouTuber, The Carla Project: linkI really enjoyed her videos. The ones with her doing her sister's home really gave me anxiety for how cluttered it was! Especially the garage. I just watched her video on cleaning while depressed, sick, in pain, etc. Appreciated what she said about doing the hard things because they’re good for you. Also, telling yourself you only have to do 5 minutes, and that you usually gain momentum and keep going. And that is so true for me, unless I’m really depressed or in pain. That’s a way to know how bad things are, I usually can’t even make myself do 5 minutes. I also appreciated that her place really needed to be cleaned instead of what I see a lot of, them just not doing the dishes after breakfast or something, it’s more real. And so was her home, you could tell she didn’t have much storage and it was interesting to see how she worked with that. My husband is the cook in our family, it’s just not something I’m up for much of. He also does the large majority of the kitchen cleaning. If he didn’t, I will admit that once I hit a certain point with my pain and depression I would definitely be using paper plates and plastic utensils. And when he’s not doing well either, we do that sometimes. And I know how horrid that is for the environment, but you have to eat and living in filth is just not healthy physically or mentally. You do what you’ve got to do and that’s one way we sometimes cope. Her electric lamp on the edge of the sink Anyway, I liked her and want to say what she has to say about actual decluttering. Thanks for the recommendation! I love the fact that she addressed the topic of addressing with these issues, and I’m going to write down what she said about doing the hard things because they’re good for you. But I was really hoping for more practical tips in handling this. Do y’all have any suggestions and tips, or recommended videos to watch?

I'd love to just make up some postal boxes of surprise boxes and ship them out to someone who really needs or would appreciate them! maybe post them on the sale/trade board here? I know I've bought surprise destash boxes here before - sometimes they've been 'just pay shipping' and sometimes they've been a bit more. I don't think any have really been moneymakers for the de-stashers but if you're just looking for good homes, that might be route to consider.

'Goodish' isn't going to be worth it if you do use it and end up with an infection from it, especially any eye products. And 'barely been opened' means that the seal has been broken, so no good. Go forth and trash the old makeup! You can do this!

I like the 15 minutes of decluttering someone suggested here in the past. I have been taking fifteen minutes here and there over the weekend. I ha=e a box on the go all t(e time for donating and give aways and the re-cycling bin is always at our back door. Sure is freeing to put things in their place or decide to part with them.

linda That’s an advanced decluttering tactic right there! calgaryscrapper I like using small brackets of time to make progress, it feels great! Even 5 minutes here and there will make a difference. I had a decent day decluttering wise. Went though my hair doodads and finally gave up my bobby-pins, and thanks to mommaho I flipped quickly through my dies and there are 8 sets (mostly old Spellbinders) that I am likely going to get rid of 6 or 7. I’m going to run them through my electronic die-cutter this week and make a final decision. Most dies you can tell by looking at them, but I find the old Spellbinder ones are much harder to really visualize. And I started early on the skincare items and have selected a lot so far. Tomorrow I’m going to really challenge myself with this. eta: Oh yeah, and about 2 dozen hangers are making their way to my brother. He definitely needs them and if we need them then we have too many clothes and need to pair down. eta2: Apparently I inspired DH because he just came out of the closet with half a dozen things to try on and is donating 3 Hawaiian shirts! 👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻 He’s currently losing weight and in love with the other 3 so those will go in his one too small and t-shirts to rotate box.

I tossed out a bunch of stuff in the cupboard that I talked about last week and now have all of the bins that the tea and other items in to wash. However, our sink is now clogged and Dh is not getting it to work. Ugh. I don’t know if it’s frozen or something else. Our patio door leading to the back yard is also frozen today which makes taking the dog out in below zero weather even less fun.
